Coming from someone who works in the film industry, it's easy from the outside to say don't date your coworkers, but it's easier said than done. Film is a a very time consuming career and most of us really don't have a life outside of it. Most of the people I know in the industry date people they met on jobs because we don't have a lot of other options. Also, the strong union existence makes the power dynamics less feudalistic than other American industries. Different departments have different union reps and responsibilities are clearly defined so higher ups can't just make people do whatever they want. Plus it's a gig industry so all work relationships have expiration dates. It's not uncommon for power positions to switch frequently (If you act in my movie I'll act in yours sort of thing). It's a mistake to compare it to most ongoing corporate environments. It's more like a bunch of different contractors who sometimes see each other on the same gigs. Ideally you're right, right, don't date colleagues, but in practice it's not a practical rule for most of us.

Gee did Luke's film seem like hot buttered garbage but Luke is the one who is making it so, it tracks.

The law firm, the lawyer represents is Gage Whitney. This is the same law firm Sam Seaborn works at on the west wing and the law firm in Molly’s Game.

There's 4 West Wing references in this episode (or maybe just Sorkin recycling some favourite things) Matt's assistant's response when he tells her to go home, she asks if he's going home and he says no. Her response is 'I go home when you go home.' That was Margaret to Cj when she took over as COS . Matt with the ball - yep that's a version of Toby's ball and the lawyer is from Gage Whitney which is the law firm Sam Seaborn worked for. And Single Cell Paramecium was a fake band name that Donna gave to Josh when she was telling him who was playing at Rock The Vote for Bartlett's 2nd campaign...... Hated the whole Luke's film stuff in this ep. It was wayyyyy too much and took up so much episode time that could have been put to better use. Not sure what Sorkin was even trying to do with this storyline other than to show what a manipulative piece of sh*t and rubbish director Luke was and have Harriett see that, but surely it could have been done in a better quicker way!

As a parent, I can assure Jordan that the opportunities for a baby to encounter an 18th century French guillotine are almost zero, so she should be fine.

single cell paramecium was also the fake band Donna gave to Josh.

As far as I know this is the first time Sorkin specifically wrote a DRUG storyline, but the addiction storyline with Leo on the West Wing was pretty heavily based on both Sorkin's struggle with addiction and John Spencer's battle with alcoholism

Yes, but it's also an industry in which sexual harassment was normalized for a long long time. Of course that's true of other businesses too but sexuality is much more of a currency in show business (I also work in it, in various ways). The unions don't have a great track record of preventing that. So sure, date people in the field, people you meet on jobs, but if I were an actress I would have a firm line in the sand with directors and producers, especially those I was *currently working with. There are plenty of other options.

They also reused some dialogue about shower caps fitting one head, ironing clothes while wearing them, and pudding getting hot when heated in The Newsroom. They did it better the second time IMO, Rebecca and Don were on fire.

Luke seems exactly like the kind of guy who thinks "truth be damned, if I really overdramatize this, the audience is gonna eat it up and I'm gonna be so successful."

I clocked the moment the guillotine came on screen that the baby's head was going in it. I had no idea how they were going to get to that, but I knew it was coming. :D The Luke thing is another thing Sorkin has done before. He's comparing Matt, who is not treating Harriet well because he's spiraling, to Luke, who's three steps ahead of Harriet and messing with her on purpose.

I would judge other writers for reusing dialogue but I worship at the alter of Aaron Sorkin so that just makes me go awww. 😂 So many West Wing references in this episode AND one of Studio 60’s dialogue almost verbatim became an iconic Don line in The Newsroom!

You never know. Maybe she's really into renaissance fairs..
