Animation is one of our biggest holes. Help us fill the gap!

Ooooh, some good ones! Excited to see what wins!

Ari.g

oh my god, so many good ones 💔💔 this exact poll needs a take 2 at some point!!

Megamind was too clever and ahead of its time. It's getting a resurgence now and it's soooo worth it! Definitely my favorite animated movie. But Big Hero Six has so much charm and is underrated as well so... thanks for allowing multiple choices!

aleidascope

This is difficult. I'd be very happy with most of these, but my vote goes to Tintin because that movie is incredibly underrated.

Chris Warner

Lots of great movies here. I would also recommend for a future poll some non American animation like Mary and Max, Persepolis, Millennium Actress, and Triplets Of Belleville

Megamind and Monsters vs. Aliens were adult cartoons that kids could watch.

TouchTheGarlic

Tintin is getting slaughtered! Not unexpected, but sad. Spielberg really nailed the feel of the comics. Still, I can’t complain too much - everything on here is a banger.

Amelie W

These are mostly well known classics, for good reasons. (No idea about Tintin.) But I have to single out Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs cause it's criminally overlooked. I only watched it this year myself. I guess it gives the appearance of a generic, gimmicky, trying-to-be-whimsical Disney knock-off more aimed at children than at the whole family; it's certainly what I expected. But I was blown away on "many" levels.

Adam Grant

Spirited Away is essential watching as far as 2000s animated movies, one of the greatest movies of all time.

Eileen Castillo

Great list there. "Surfs Up" is another good one.

GDF

I honestly thought you guys had watched Up which is why no one bought it for you lol.

Roland

I never expected to have seen all but one of these, and those are all great, so Zootopia it is then, I guess.

aleidascope

Tintin is well worth a watch. The animation, for which they used motion capture, is incredible, it has a stellar cast, and as an adaptation of the comics, it hits the nail on the head. It's a really great adventure movie and it's a shame it never got the sequels it deserved.

two pennies no waiting

Impossible decision between zootopia, big hero 6, and up for me. I went with zootopia for Kevin and Joe's particular taste.

Statmanjeff

Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Over the Hedge (2006) are two of my faves. Spirited Away (2001) from Japan is very interesting.

Amelie W

Megamind and Despicable Me could really be a double feature. It's great how 2010 produced TWO animated family comedies about an evil genius and his adorable little helpers featuring significant dance scenes. And how they could manage to go in such different directions.

Statmanjeff

Doesn't The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) count for consideration? Any of the Wallace & Gromit short subject movies as well?

CK in ZH

While it is almost in the lead, no one seems to have mentioned Finding Nemo. It is absolutely my favorite of the bunch and it works in every dimension. Up is good, too, but I think a bit too . . . I don't know, simple maybe. And finally I put in a vote for Megamind which isn't simple but I don't like the voice acting (despite liking all the actors involved) and the graphics are underwhelming. Again, Nemo always makes me cry, and I can't say that about any of the others. Enjoy!

Brad Roberts

I agree, except that the studio that owns the rights is about the most aggressive copyright holder that exists. They'll cause more pain and suffering than is it's worth for the channel. Watch it, but don't bother trying to record it for streaming.

Youtalkingtome

Studio Ghibli was quite a pain on the YT edit for Howl's Moving Castle.

Ashley Thomas

so many good ones! i hope you end up watching a lot of these!

ScarlettMi

Cloudy is getting slept on. It flies under the radar but it’s shockingly charming and original.

dys

Would also highly recommend Princess Mononoke, my favorite Ghibli movie (Spirited Away is #2). But yes may not be worth the pain to get it to youtube.

dys

The only problem with the Tintin movie (having grown up with the comics and the 90s TV cartoon) is that it ends in a way that's clearly expecting a sequel that never came to complete the story.

Youtalkingtome

Nope! We've even had it on an animation poll before!

dys

Though whoops Princess Mononoke is 1997 so wouldn't have qualified for this poll anyway.

vala p

Monsters vs Aliens had a TV show too that was every bit as fun as the movie

LS

Adventures of TinTin soOOO UNDERRATRED

seth e.

not 2000-10s, but please for the love of god, Flow (2024). it's an independent film, oscar winner, most cat film ever to cat (and cry!)

John Marnell

Wow this is one of the closer polls I can remember in a while

Skinny_Obelix

Peter Jackson just announced the sequel a couple of weeks ago. The adventures of Tintin is the most underrated movie I've ever come across. It will unfortunately never win a poll like this, even though it's one of Spielbergs masterpieces, that chase scene alone is worth the watch.

Skinny_Obelix

I got some good news for you then, Peter Jackson announced the sequel a couple of weeks ago.

aleidascope

That info genuinely made my day!! I grew up with the Tintin comics and genuinely loved the first movie, I hope the sequel captures the same magic!

Cristy

Finding Nemo for me, such an awesome movie.

Rob Bob

You definitely need to watch some Don Bluth movies to help fill in said gap, if you both haven’t seen his films before, that is. 😎 The Secret of NIMH, Anastasia, An American Tail……

Ariel Sims

All of them! Can we just have a marathon?! I will watch 24 hours of animated movies with you!
