I don't think ya'll are wrong. I don't know why Lorelai went along with it, when Rory jumped in there and lied to Luke. Dumb mistake, and dumber to keep going on with it.

Gail Hislop

Just a point of correction - Chris is not Lorelai’s ex husband, he’s only Rory’s father and they were 16 when that happened. There was a brief moment when they were together as adults but that ended when Sherry told him she was pregnant and he walked away. Rory was angry with him still in this episode and had shut him out because he had called Lorelai for help after Sherry walked out on him a few weeks earlier and didn’t want him potentially messing up Lorelai’s happy relationship with Luke. It had nothing to do with him being an absentee father, as you seemed to be alluding to when he turned up at Yale. The whole Lorelai lying to Luke thing is messed up, there is no reason for her to have lied. Nothing bad had happened, but her not telling him about it makes it feel like she thinks he will automatically think something did! That is not showing any trust in Luke, or his maturity or the strength of their relationship. she has no valid reason to think he would react badly. She is acting guilty and that’s where the trouble lies! If she had told him the simple truth from the start and dealt with any negative consequences, if there were any, then that would have been the mature thing to do. Now she’s set a precedent to lie to Luke in the future and that is no way to have a healthy relationship. The rest of this episode was so much silly filler with the reenactment storyline, the audition and the dog. It felt like the writing team were taking a break. Just my opinion

For me, if you do something that even remotely looks like there could have been anything going on, it's wrong! Lorelai should have gone to see Chris, with Rory, not on her own, and she shouldn't have lied to Luke about it! I just don't think that anyone in a serious relationship, or marriage, should give their partner a reason to question or doubt anything. It's disrespectful! If you you wouldn't do it with your partner there, then you probably shouldn't be doing it at all! Luke and Lorelai have been sleeping over at each other's places pretty much every night, so what lie is she going to have to tell to cover up why she wasn't around that night? If you don't ever give the appearance that anything could happen, you don't ever have to worry about having to lie to your partner, or covering your tracks! Lorelai should have gone WITH Rory, or not at all. Period.

Mostly I just misheard Kevin for a sec, but She Sheds would be a great name for like, a women owned dog grooming business. The Christopher stuff isn’t my favorite but I just find the ridiculous townie nonsense in this episode so delightful.

Sometimes I feel less morally strict about these relationship things than you guys tend to be, but you're right in this case. Obviously Lorelai should have told Luke, and if Luke had an adverse reaction then they can talk that out. It's a bad rule to say "never do anything that remotely could upset your partner." It depends how easily upset your partner is, and that can be the path to a controlling relationship and a diminished life. But you definitely should be honest about it. Rory got the lying started in this case, and Lorelai should have been the adult and said, "No, Rory, it's okay, here's what happened." They each have a bit of a pattern of lying about Christopher, because Christopher has always been a difficult and destabilizing factor in their lives. As you say it's a really bad instinct that could snowball. And Luke is way too important in their lives now to let that happen.

Let's not forget the good things about this episode too: Richard & Emily and the dog; Luke helping Lorelai make up with snow; and yes, Rory making up with Christopher.

Carl Wilson

The dog story was really a story about Richard and Emily. The re-enactment story was just normal silly townie stuff but that's important to what makes the show - and Kirk filling in for Lulu as the historical harlot was *great townie stuff: "We're not supposed to be arguing, Taylor, we're supposed to be making love!"

I have a technical question. Do you guys know if the playback speed between Hulu and Netflix is slightly off? I keep having to synchronize it during watching (yes I am in Europe and GG is still on Netflix) :). Thanks

Yasemin

Kelly Bishop (Emily) adores dogs in real life, so this is particularly funny to watch.

Yasemin

I'm with you, I don't like the lying either. It's also so unnecessary here.

Yasemin

I love Kirk so much. And he looks stunning here, LOL.

Yasemin

Side note: Christopher isn't the "ex-husband", they didn't get married back in the day. :)

Yasemin

They can be friends, yes. She can go over to comfort him, yes. However....getting drunk together and spending almost all night there PLUS lying about it, isn't cool in my book.

Riley Swain

It is likely the 'commercial breaks' that are different lengths!

Nannette

Unrelated to this episode (and to this show, other than having a cast member in common) but I'd love it if you guys were to start reacting to "The Good Wife"

Youtalkingtome

Yeah unfortunately I don't know. I really hate when shows jump from streamer to streamer

Yasemin

No worries, I'll continue to synchronize/adapt while watching...all the tiny little delays/gaps add up. :)
