So much to say about this episode! And none of it about the Matt and Harriet ongoing argument . For me it always felt like all the dialogue around the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and the war starting was what Sorkin wished he could have said on West Wing but couldn't because it was the fictional White House. I loved everything he had Matt say in that writers room and hated every word out of Luke's mouth (he would definitely be a MAGA Fox employee in 2026!) Chilling hearing the gungho lines suggesting the war is gonna be over in no time and Jack saying Tom's brother won't even be out of basic training before it ends. There were a couple of subtle WW call back moments in this episode. When Andy arrives in the writers room completely unaware that the war has started because he's been in the hospital with his wife having their baby and later Matt says that changed the temperature in the room. That felt like when Toby arrived at his office after Andy had the twins and everyone was in panic mode about Zoey and he just tells them, almost as an afterthought in all the chaos and it changes the whole mood of the scene and what they are dealing with. Then there is Danny in the hospital with Jordan, parallel to Josh in the hospital with Donna, both with Brad Whitford. Beautiful moment with him proposing. And yes he does need to send that Doctor (a great part by JD Walsh) a giant apology fruit basket!!! Side not that Tim Busfield directed this one. Nate Cordray's performance in this episode is so good, and it's in the writing. Tom correcting the news exec that the boys are 'airmen', constantly reminding everyone that 3 of them have been taken and that he knows all of them. The introduction of actor James Lesure as his brother's commanding officer and the exchanges between them is gold with more to come. MVP for the ep Mary Tate for immediately floating the Trask K&R option and Yes Joe, there are definitely Trask kinds of private security and risk management companies around the world (Google will give you a list of them) Sadly they are needed because K&rR of people working in high threat, dangerous countries is not uncommon. Also if you like your action/war type content you should watch the Seal Team tv series with David Boreanaz in the lead. It is incredibly well done and a show that real Navy Seal and Black Ops guys actually gave their approval of. Part 2 and 3 of this storyline still to come so buckle in guys.

I loved how Tom corrected the guy that called them soldiers. When I was in the Air Force I kept having to correct people, especially my mother, "We're Airmen, mom". Then one day someone tried to scam her claiming to be my base chaplain and I needed her to send money because I got a DUI. But, I'm non-drinking atheist, and he called me a soldier. My mom said, I thought maybe being in the military changed your mind about alcohol, and maybe the chaplain was the only one available to help you, but there's no way you would let someone call you a soldier. lol Cops got involved. People got arrested.

Mariska Costeris

Harry is the worst character. I know I’m not American and the culture is different but the performative praying when she hears about Jordan…. Honestly, way to make it about yourself and your magic imaginary friend.

Roland

I love that story, kudos to your mum! :)

I think the arrogant preachy atheism is awful too. Maybe that's the point, to spotlight the extremes of both positions, but I'm not sure who (audience-wise) is supposed to benefit from those exchanges.

-Seeing the Andy flash back and knowing where things are going was a gut punch. -Millicent is the name Sorkin used for the Surgeon General in the West Wing... -My wife and daughters all almost died of pre-eclampsia. They had to be pulled out almost 3 full months premature. Both graduated from college with few health issues.

Tom Rand

The 2001 flashbacks do a great job of reminding you how deranged the atmosphere was in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. Luke shouting about 50 Tomahawk missiles!! etc. reminded me of those stupid macho briefings Pete Hegseth was doing at the start of the latest war.

In his past, before this show and the west wing, Aaron Sorkin's then wife had a pregnancy end at 8 months because the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck before birth, so he was writing from experience here. Also, just a little sad note, he and his wife named their stillborn son Charlie. I only know this because I was thinking that story from this episode seemed pretty real and then I found out why.

Mariska Costeris

You are right about preachy atheists being equally annoying. I loved when the West Wing used to contrast Bartlet’s religion with the choices he felt he had to make as a president, but in this show I’m bored by it.

You guys need to start doing a "Bad Movie" poll regularly. I nominate Cats!

Youtalkingtome

That is a great story! I do like that the show addresses this too

Youtalkingtome

God that must have been terrifying. Happy to hear they are doing well

Alex

I loved this show, but way too much of it was just Matt and Harriet having the same argument over and over again!

I just wanted to give a special shout out to Bradley Whitford’s ER episode ‘Love Labor Lost’ which was one of his finest acting performances and that’s saying something given his talent and projects.
