Oh I am so sat

Carl Wilson

What a whirlwind of an episode! Whew. I no longer remember exactly how most of these storylines play out, so I can say without spoilers: Like you guys, I hope Luke can get over this relatively easily, knowing none of it was Lorelai's fault. Having had to make the tequila-night reveal right before it happened is going to make that more difficult - a pretty good illustration of why she shouldn't have concealed it in the first place. As for Emily and Christopher (and Richard by extension) - the show is the show, and those relationships are going to have to be revisited at some point. Emily and Lorelai's relationship has become nearly as central as Rory and Lorelai's by now. But I hope it's not soon, and with a massive amount of contrition and recognition of what they did wrong when it does come. On the brighter side: I thought Rory and Logan's dancing conversation about why he hadn't asked her out, and her claim that she could do "no strings" dating, was pretty fascinating. It did show that Logan has thought seriously about it. On her side, I'm afraid it sounds like she is just so strongly attracted to him that she'll go along with whatever she needs to say to make it happen. Ever since she slept with Dean, one gets the sense that Rory doesn't know herself and what's good for her very well at this stage in her life. Which is pretty realistic for somebody in their second year of college, honestly.

And we’re here. ‘You and Me, we’re done!’ All of us who have seen the show have been waiting the last few weeks for you guys to get to this episode. And you can see why. As you said, the writing has built us up to this last five minutes and that definitive end moment so well. And I’d say we all cheered! You said it all. Emily is an horrendous snob and her manipulative behaviour deserved losing Lorelai! Richard wasn’t aware of her scheme but he has been rude and dismissive of Luke as ‘worthy’ of even being in their circle of privilege, so he deserves some of the fallout from this. Enough said about Christopher! Although at least he got Rory to make a move on Logan finally and I really respected Logan for telling her upfront and in no uncertain terms that, yes he thinks she is special, but he isn’t boyfriend material. She has agreed to no strings, so it is on her to follow through on that with whatever happens or not between them now. And yes, that was Marion Ross who played Trix (and also most notably Mrs Cunningham on Happy Days) as cousin Marilyn.

I have been to many vow renewals, though not usually with this budget.

Cop Rock the entire series is available on YouTube. It's what you get when you ask the creator of Hill Street Blues (one of the best tv dramas of all time) to do his third cop show in ten years. Of course after this was cancelled he went back to doing serious ones.

Man I was looking forward to this episode for a long time. This one is iconic, and Lorelai's "You and me, we're DONE" is said with such vitriol, I really think Lauren Graham is underrated sometimes. Also one of my favorite (and extremely underrated) funny lines was from this episode - when Richard chides Lorelai, "Focus!" and she replies "I am a camera!" -- I quote that all the time.

Kevin’s facial expressions are the best! The first time I saw this I was ALL about Luke telling Christopher about how he was more of a father than he has ever been!! So cool to see you guys getting into that too!

I forget where I’ve seen clips - maybe on one of those CNN TV retrospectives or I Love the 80s or something - and the captain singing “let’s be saaaaaaaafe out there” is so bad it’s almost good.

Def #2 of my top 3 GG episodes. Paris not getting into Harvard, You. Me. We're done. And the very last episode of the entire show in 2016. The Palladino's are just incredible -- what genre do you even call this show? It's certainly not cozy. Off to find tator tots!

I absolutely hate how Lorelai feeds Rory. I know it's meant to be an unrealistic joke, but I find it ridiculous and unenjoyable. I can't help but think of feeding my kids that way and I'm disgusted. Upon rewatch, I'm getting the sense that Chris shows the most interest and attention for Rory whenever he's horny for Lorelai and wants to get in her pants. If so, it's pretty despicable.

I🖤Kraken

Never even saw that before. Rory is a means to an end for Christopher to get to Lorelei. Yuuuck!! I gotta go scrub my brain now.

Luke and Chris are both so dumb in this episode. Rory is an adult, Logan is an adult, and they are both clearly consenting. Awkward timing, but I’m very over men policing women’s sexuality.

Jonathan

Yeah it’s in the CNN 90s tv episode.

Marilyn's flirtation with Luke and her desire to have an affair with a gardener was a pop culture reference to the ABC show "Desperate Housewives". It was a super hot show at the time. Also this is where I started to really get frustrated with Rory. She was so blinded by Logan that she couldn't see her prediction about her sperm donor ruining things was about to come true.

Roland

The family implosion at the end gets our main attention of course, but let's not just brush off Lorelai's stupid prank that at the very least cost someone their contract, and quite possibly their whole business, considering Emily's elite social network.

Happy 100th episode! Will watch now. :)

Yasemin

I think Rory looks fantastic in that outfit.

Yasemin

Yes, that is Trix reincarnated indeed, guys. :)

Onno Smits

Oh lawd, most of this episode was so infuriating! Great fun watching your fury bubble over as well. 🤣

Yasemin

Kevin going "Tool!" at Christopher is everything, lol.

Yasemin

OMG you guys crack me up with your imitations of Christopher etc. :) What an ep, right! Also, I never noticed the alcohol policy at the party before lol. Logan is a bit older than Rory, but you're right, Rory is a minor at this point.

Yasemin

Chris is a sperm donor.

That is such a funny scene though, with both men flipping out over Rory and Logan. "I will take care of dad and Luke" always makes me giggle.

Carl Wilson

I think beyond the joke of it (and I enjoy the joke), the point about Lorelai and Rory and junk food is that Lorelai was 16 when she left home and she retained the eating habits of a kid. (As well as the metabolism of one, apparently, even in her mid-30s.) So there is a poignancy to it. That said, I think Rory as a child probably also got the needed nutrition, with the likes of Sookie and Luke around to help.

Carl Wilson

"I Am a Camera" is also the title of a play and later film based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin stories, which later became the basis for the musical Cabaret. (The title comes from one of the stories.) I doubt, with Amy Sherman-Palladino's Broadway knowledge, that it's an accident.

Carl Wilson

Luke has a bad tendency to be overprotective of Rory -- remember also his attitude to Dean. (On the other hand he was a little too unprotective of her regarding Jess, but those were competing father-figure roles for him.) It's matched by the fact that he would do anything in the world for her, of course, but still.

Carl Wilson

Ah, that's where Marilyn gets the "it's trendy" idea. I thought she was thinking about the groundskeeper in Lady Chatterley's Lover, but that's not exactly trendy.

Carl Wilson

You're right about Rory - I kept being sure she was going to march up and ask Chris WTF he was doing there, but yeah, she's too hung up to think about it.

Abby T W

I didn’t know that!! And I agree, this was definitely purposeful. Very cool trivia, thank you!

AmyAin'tMyName

I've always felt Christopher didn't care about Rory and was only interested in Lorelei. She's his focus, Rory just happens to be there. Which should turn Lorelei right the fuck off. How pathetic that this adult is spewing his true love crap when they dated when they were 16. Their shared history is young teenage rebellion. I have never understood their supposed deep connection.
