If you're looking for more Elmore Leonard adaptions or westerns check out The Tall T (1957), 310 to Yuma (1957), and Hombre (1967).

I could not agree more with you about Boondock Saints. Actually that movie has a crazy backstory that is honestly much more interesting than the movie if you're interested the YouTube channel Cinematic Excrement did an in depth and quiet funny video about it.

My fav QT-esque movie is a toss up between Grosse Pointe Blank and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Also, don’t avoid Go forever—it’s pretty darn entertaining.😊

Ditto on recommending Go! Great performances all around, my first intro to Sarah Polley.

Chris

Don't you puke on my shoes, Harry! All-time supporting performances in this one.

When Travolta shoots Dennis Farina on the wall beside him is a poster for The Thin Man.

Funny thing about the name Moe Greene. Mario Puzo chose the name from Moe Sedway and Gus Greenbaum two real life Jewish mobsters who took over the running of the Falmingo hotel after Bugsy Siegel the inspiration for the character of Moe Greene was murdered.

Elmore Leonard's writing career lasted six decades, incredibly prolific through all that time with novels, short stories, and even the occasional original screenplay, and the really amazing thing is that as far as I've ever been able to tell, there isn't a single one that's generally considered subpar.

Also his original screenplay for Mr. Majestyk.

I haven't seen this movie in 20 years and I was thinking that Dennis Farina and Bette Midler were somehow together. Turns out I was thinking of another 90s movie, That Old Feeling, a comedy with Bette Midler and Dennis Farina as the romantic lead. They should have cast him in more movies as the leading man.

Ben Gilbert

The 2007 remake of 3:10 to Yuma is pretty great too, with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

Angelyne is a famous American model, singer, and media star who became an icon by putting up giant pink billboards of herself around Los Angeles starting in 1984. She became famous just for being famous long before social media existed, using self-funded roadside signs featuring only her name and a phone number.

Plus there were tv shows based on his books. Justified is the most well known but there was also Karen Cisco starring Carla Gugino and Maximum Bob with Beau Bridges. I’d forgotten about those shows until I just looked it up but I vaguely remember liking them.

After getting out of the theater... I marched over to Media Play and picked up the sound track. I mean... to be fair... I was already planning on going to Media Play after the movie. I still listen to it... in fact my current default playlist has at least one track from it.

If you get a chance read the IMDB trivia page for this movie, a lot of fun tidbits in there. My favorite is: "According to Elmore Leonard, Martin Weir (Danny DeVito) is based on Leonard's own dealings with Dustin Hoffman."

Ben Gilbert

There’s a sequel Be Cool based on Elmore Leonard’s sequel to Get Shorty. Chili Palmer gets involved with the music business in LA and learns that it’s even more ruthless than the movie business. It’s a fun movie and it reunites Travolta and Uma Thurman.

I remember Hackman being very funny in Royal Tennenbaums

The mentioning of Gene Hackman doing comedies immediately reminded me of his first comedic role, as the lonely blind man in Young Frankenstein. He learned of the movie from his friend Gene Wilder and immediately asked for a part. IIRC he did it for free.

angelyne is just a reference to fame and hollywood, she bought heaps of billboards for attention and she has amazing pink car she drives around hollywood shes like a mascot, shes super campy, to draw a parallel to the movie its a "fake it till you make it" type thing

Youtalkingtome

I had forgotten about Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It’s excellent.

Youtalkingtome

His work has had a crazy influence in Hollywood over the years.
