I Have Friends Everywhere

I think this episode is titled “I Have Friends Everywhere”🤷🏼‍♀️ (not “Sagrona Teema”). Thus revealing that I have seen this series an embarrassing amount of times.🤣

GDF

It's kind of ambigious whether he was a spy or not. I like to think he was though since he kept pestering people at the base and Saw about which station they were planning to hit next even though every proper rebel should know that it's best to not know until just before. And so Saw then told him the wrong station so he would report that back. And then killed him before taking Wilmott to blow up a different station.

GDF

In the first episode Kleya asked Luthen whether Mon Mothma was "worth it" and Luthen said they can't "hide forever". The final part of an insurgency is to eventually go public so to speak. Stop fighting the guerilla war and start fighting an actual civil war with an alternative regime and govt. And so Mon Mothma's purpose is to eventually become that figurehead and leader of that alternative govt, using her charisma and legitimacy from being a former Senator to then rally more open support and rebellion. I think you see her more in Star Wars: Rebels but we're still very early days here in the show. We're still at insurgency/guerilla war stage. But already her being the leader was part of Luthen's plan, showing his own skill at leading it

No, Cassian Andor and Jyn Erso don't ever kiss, they just embrace each other while the wave of "light" is coming their way on Scarif. And obviously, the only way to finish the Andor series is to re-watch Rogue One (you'll see it in an enhanced way, definitely) I think that pretty much everyone here, including you both, have seen Star Wars 1977 (and the subsequent movies) more than enough, but Rogue One is a must IMO.

Roland

I like to think he wasn't a spy, just clumsy and naïve, with Saw just too paranoid and coked up on rhydo to do anything other than execute him in a grand fashion. 🤩

dys

I was confused about that too on first watch, but I think part of that confusion for me was just forgetting who Wilmon was from season 1. On this watch now that I remember who he is, we have every reason to trust him from everything we know about him on Ferrix, and no reason to trust this new guy who is asking all these specific questions about where the attack is going to happen. So I do actually think new guy was a spy that Saw was probably onto the whole time.

dys

I definitely didn't get any romantic vibes between Cassian and Jyn Erso in Rogue One either. But I also still think Rogue One is a just okay movie, elevated a bit in retrospect by how great this show is but I can't really give it points for character development that happened in this far better written show.

dys

There's some stuff that I thought was pretty much confirmed last episode, but you guys have a different take on so far. So I'll just say there's one fun parallel with the Brooklyn 99 episode you watched today. This episode is really what made Saw make sense to me as a coherent character. I mean he's not mentally coherent, he's completely insane, but now I get how he's a real human person who is insane in a specific grounded way (even though a lot of it is due to exposure to a fictional substance) that I think is good characterization, unlike in Rogue One. He was just such a throwaway character in Rogue One and a waste of such a talented actor. There was zero chemistry with him and Felicity Jones to make you believe those people had a long history.

It's not a mining planet yet. It's a textile planet of high reputation. The empire wants to make it a mining planet

Neill Shaughness

One detail I love in this is that Syril's office is designed like the bridge of a star destroyer with the employees working in a pit around an elevated platform that leads to the supervisor's office

Daren

FYI, in the next episode, a character you haven’t seen in a while (and not in Andor so far) shows up again but was recast due to scheduling conflicts. Don’t want you to be surprised like some of us were initially.🙃

Neill Shaughness

I'm with Saw. That guy was way too suss. I think I would have come to the same conclusion

Youtalkingtome

Thanks! It's been too long since I watched Rogue One.

Neill Shaughness

Saw is one of my favorite characters in SW at this point. Most successful revolutions in history has and probably needed men like Saw and men like Luthen. I love that this show doesn't shy away from that.

After watching Andor I finally gave the Clone Wars cartoon a chance and was shocked to find out that Saw was introduced there. If you really want to get to know him as a character you can see him as a young man there

dys

Oh cool, I don't remember Saw from The Clone Wars at all. I have mixed feelings about that show because it could swing wildly from the things we all hated about the prequels to some of the best Star Wars content there has ever been. There would be episodes almost up to Andor's writing quality that completely sell the gradual character development of Anakin Skywalker into the person who would eventually become Darth Vader far better than any of the prequel films did, and then there would be Jar-Jar episodes that made little if any attempt to be better than the most despised aspects of the prequels.

dys

I'm pretty excited to comment about this specific recasting... they couldn't get one legendary actor so instead they got an equally legendary actor :)

dys

From American history, I guess he's a bit like a John Brown or Malcolm X type figure... not quite, because I don't think Saw has that kind of reasoned thought behind his cause.

Neill Shaughness

I'm thinking more like Pancho Villa or some of the more intense Bolshevists

Neill Shaughness

In fact I think many parallels can and have been made between Luthen/Saw and Lenin/Stalin

Neill Shaughness

Or hell, half the French revolutionaries were completely nuts

Zach Hershman

It wasn't ambiguous at all. They weren't blowing anything up either. The device they were working with is used to steal rhydonium (fuel used in starships) from the Empire.

Michael Bennett

The spy was also asking Wilmon who taught him, and advocating for him not being killed so that he could be interrogated.

Paul T Hewes

-Wilmon had a device that was basically a universal docking clamp/tap for Imperial fuel lines. Kind of like the navigation device that Nemik had in season 1, non-Imperial analog-like device that requires touch and skill to make work. -Saw's injuries and deterioration COULD be attributed to his addiction to huffing fuel fumes... -Cassian understood that there was a big chance the Empire would crush the Ghormans and that they would probably die to a man. He didnt want to be part of that. -Syril is such a simp for power.

Clone Wars was definitely up and down, but well worth the watch. Saw has a few episodes, but he's so much younger (and he's with his actual sister) you might have not realized it was the same character. Saw actually has a pretty incredible back story, he's in video games and also in the Rebels show. I think where he ends up fits very well with how they portray him starting out in clone wars, you 'get' his progression and how he's seen it go from the clone wars to the empire to the rebellion... and the atrocities committed.
