The really funny thing is this is just one year after 9 To 5, where Jane Fonda and Dabney Coleman were arch-enemies.

This is a great movie ~ Katherine Hepburn calling Henry Fonda an old poop good stuff~ lol Its crazy, Henry Fonda passed away less than a year after this movie came out, but Katherine Hepburn lived to be 96.

I always loved this movie. There were quite a few movies about older people that were popular across all ages when I was a kid. Can you imagine a family drama like this being the number one movie at the box office nowadays? It was the 2nd highest grossing of 1981 - only Raiders beat it.

Daniel Lydford

Things have changed a bit now, but the main reason for people to leave the cottage is that the infrastructure into these places wasn't very good. The roads were seasonal, many didn't have running water, and were a ways away from things like a grocery store. Great in season, but once it starts to get cold it's time to go home again until next summer.

This movie was always special to me. We built my grandparents an entertainment center from scratch with a place for a VCR and this was one of the movies they picked out to “try it out” and this was the first “grownup” movie I saw as a little kid and it started my fascination with older award winning movies.

Jane Fonda did a lot behind the scenes to arrange for this movie so she could make a movie with her dad.

For the 20th anniversary of the film they did a pro shot version of the play starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

It’s 2:20am in the morning and, once again, having problems falling asleep. Decided to check your Patreon and what do I see?! ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS of all times. I used to watch this annually but haven’t seen in probably 7 years. I am so happy to see this film finally reacted to. Couldn’t ask for someone better. Okay starting in three, two, one ….

Heather

Interesting timing. Mark Rydell, who directed this movie, passed away on Friday.

That was awesome rewatching this film along with your reaction. I hope you bought a copy to add to your library. Like you mentioned, it’s a film you’ll want to revisit time and time again.

Oh, man, I got into bird watching about five years ago. It’s consumed me. 😂

This one makes me sob like a sap. Saw it in a theatre with my late mother. XO

This one wrecks me these days. Lost my wife of 31 years 2.5 ago. I doubt I'll ever recover. Greatest lady ever. ☮️💟🌹
