I know, we definitely missed a lot of great options on this one. Also, there is a typo in Decendants and Patreon won't let me fix it.

For the 1940s either Maltese Falcon or The Best Years of our Lives… But I’m choosing Klute, let’s do the Paranoia Trilogy! Go Pakula!

I like small polls!

Ohboy we're going to wreck them, aren't we? Have tissues ready! I never cry at movies but Big Fish made me a blubbering mess.

I voted for Lost Weekend because Ray Milland is the best (he's in The Uninvited- the old black and white one- my favorite ghost movie.) Plus, they could do the Descendants as a tie in with Community so we'd get both.

Joking aside, it's a phenomenonal movie. Im not even a big fan of tim burton but this movie is a masterpiece

Nick Stark

Terms of Endearment for the Oscar worthy performances please. A must see film of the 1980’s

Daniel Andersen

Big Fish is my favorite feel good movie and on my Letterboxd top 4

Actuarial Lurker

Did 1940s. 50s and 70s but have only seen parts of Terms of Endearment and none of the others, so all are new to me except their reputation- rooting for Klute. Will you be subversive and do shots to The Lost Weekend? or is that too dark?

Cosmic Slice

Oh, I am so split because I want Big Fish, Miller's Crossing*and* Terms of Endearment

Emptysea93

Oh boy. We arent going to break the boys emotionally are we? Yes… yes we are. *eagerly clicks Big Fish*

vala p

And you cannot lie?

How to steal a million 🩷

I think Big Fish is a teensy weensy bit overrated. Voted for Terms. *shrug*

I also think it gets more praise than it deserves, but at the same time, it's one of those movies you have to watch once. The concept is so good, and the ending (no spoilers) so incredible. I think the movie just gets all the love for that, and the middle kinda sags. But still. It's a great one, and it does deserve love!

kosmickrab

One day you guys will watch Miller's Crossing.

Toc

?????

Youtalkingtome

This is the film that replaced Body Heat after you bought that one!

Youtalkingtome

I'm not familiar with the plot of the film, so I'm not sure what we would do shots to!

Joshua Taylor

I learned about it only a few months ago. It’s a some film buff’s description of 3 films by Alan J Pakula : Klute (1972), The Parallax View (1944) and All The President’s Men (1976). All of which are great, and if you’ve seen them all there’s certain themes that resonate with all 3 films despite not being narratively connected to each other.

vala p

"I like big butts and I cannot lie..." Reminded me of your post

nia

The Descendants was co-adapted from a novel by Jim Rash, Alexander Payne, and Nat Faxon. The trio won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay. Jim Rash is otherwise known as Dean Craig Pelton on Community. I think they won during the filming of Community season three.

Carl Wilson

I think you mean 1974 for The Parallax View!

Carl Wilson

Ok, I'm confused - lots of these seem very unlikely candidates for "defining a decade". Are these just out of the movies that people have already put on your plate?

Toc

I don't know what that is, but.....ok, I I guess!

Statmanjeff

Yes, The Uninvited (1944). I liked that alot too.

Statmanjeff

Can't recommend any of these films. As far as Terms of Endearment goes (which my family still calls Turds of Endearment), we hated it. Would love to say directly why, but I'd likely get a DON'T SPOIL IT FOR US response. For me, watching it was like being stuck in the twisted metal of a car crash with jagged car parts and broken glass puncturing my flesh as I struggled for over two hours to keep breathing while waiting for the jaws of life to arrive. If possible for your pole, I'd give this film a solid minus one. The conclusion couldn't (doesn't) come fast enough. If this film defined the 80s, then the 80's truly sucked. In other words: I didn't like it, would never subject myself to it again, and will never recommend it to anyone. How about Never Cry Wolf instead? How about The Thomas Crown Affair for the 60’s (even though I liked the 1999 remake better)?

Michelle Taylor

Hey, do you know when Dolly Parton and Tim Curry’s movie polls are coming out? They’re both such amazing talents!

Nick Stark

Not to sound impatient. Will it be on before the years end you think 🤔

Klute needs more love. Full stop.
