Neill Shaughness

It's not obvious, but Jeff and Abed have a lot of commonalities in their personalities. It's something that's more apparent on rewatches, but I think they recognize it of themselves in the other

Lola Lirola

Holy shit, Jon Oliver looks so young!!

Leah W.

Troy, Abed and Annie were definitely my favorite parts of the episode! Their storyline was so funny!

Youtalkingtome

Definitely! The Mark David Chapman joke was phenomenal!!

dys

Troy utterly losing his shit and crawling away is SO funny to me. Point of order re the stinger: it is "Troy and Abed", not "Abed and Troy".

Dr Ozzy

All times of the day? lolol

Dr Ozzy

Love hearing that you guys are enjoying the meta-ness of the show and them deconstructing sitcoms and tv.. it only gets better lol

dys

Oh and I wasn't saying Donald Glover got to improvise only early on specifically, it was the other way around where I wasn't sure how early they started having him do that.

All of Chevy Chase's success and personal failings stem from one simple fact: he's Chevy Chase and you're not. To put it another way, people put up with his bullshit because he's so talented, but if he were less talented there wouldn't be so much bullshit.

Youtalkingtome

That's really sad, too. Talent doesn't entitle anyone to bad behavior.

Lola Lirola

It was so sharp, and to do that for a minor character is just genius

Lola Lirola

"There's so much dust! 😩" was so good, and I bet my arm Glover improvised that.

Emptysea93

Oh is this the first time we have hear Garrett speak? (The Mark David Chapman looking guy) regardless such a good early episode. Also if you look close you can see Vaughn’s nipples are not that small he has makeup over his real ones and those are done over that.

abed is def 'on the spectrum' autism, it is never fully acknowledged though. The show creator dan harmon was diagnosed later after the show had ended and he calls abed his self insert character but he didn't realise later until after his diagnosis

Michael Bennett

Fun fact, coffee has more antioxidants than green tea. It's got a lot of good effects beyond being caffeinated. And get your damn feet off the counter!

Jamie Morgan

Green tea is great, but it is NOT a substitute for coffee! I'd go Senor Chang levels of insane if I made that switch!

Riley Swain

Troy and Abed are almost always in the end tags because they were often the only ones willing to stick around and do something extra after the tough 14-18 hour shooting days (part of the friction btwn Chevy chase and showrunners, he hated the long days and would sometimes walk off set) Also, on the scripts: Dan Harmon is a perfectionist, so sometimes he would be finishing up scenes while the cast was on set waiting to shoot! Some writers quit in early seasons cuz of the crazy unpredictable hours

Heather

Heh…I instinctively inserted the “and you’re not” as soon as Kevin said “he’s Chevy Chase” in the intro! Points for the SNL needle drop. Seriously, though, talk about a guy whose nasty personality made things way more difficult than they needed to be (Chevy, not Kevin, obviously).

kosmickrab

There's a detail in the background of the last scene I forgot about. I can't wait for it to be unveiled.

rojowo

it annoys me that I can't watch your reactions to the entire series right now; this is incredible!!

Kt B

Whew! That was rough. That’s my least favorite episode of the entire series, now out of the way. Half of the group is being their worst selves. Everyone has a character arc for the season and the series, and this is the low point from which people now begin to grow. The growth isn’t always linear, but at least it’s consistently part of the long-term vision.

Carl Wilson

Yeah, it's not explicit though there are winks at it more and more later. A lot of autistic viewers adopted him very affectionately too.

Carl Wilson

I don't think the experiment is *that unrealistic. I don't know if it's based on anything real, but in a real psychology experiment, I suspect the point would not be to induce frustration and "tantrums" and more to look at how long people will continue to trust an authority figure or structure and continue to go along with something unreasonable before they will push back. There are some lessons about conformity, group dynamics, obedience, and other relevant social categories there. (Surely subjects would start discussing it amongst themselves rather than just sitting quietly until they explode.) In a real version you'd probably do follow-up interviews with the subjects to find out what they were thinking as the time wore on. Anyway, none of this was really the point - the point was that Abed trusted Annie as a friend and wasn't going to violate that even if things started seeming ridiculous, which tells us a lot about him. But I thought it was still a pretty well-conceived scenario.

Carl Wilson

The characters are going to grow more complex, but that doesn't mean they are going to grow into much better people - part of the dynamic is that they are drawn together by how mutually flawed they are and that they will often do pretty terrible things.
