Grew up on the cartoon, started eating marmalade as a kid because of that bear. Very happy to see you guys doing these movies, they're a lot of wholesome fun! Kevin, I recommend toast with peanut butter and marmalade for a first try, it's delicious!

I do think it's crazy that I have made it this far in my life without trying marmalade. I shall give it a try!

Love the Paddington movies! Such a wonderful cast. Hugh Bonneville is in Notting Hill. He is also in Downton Abbey, which I’m still hoping you both react to one day. ☺️

Tyler Explains It All

The Shape of Water is my favorite Sally Hawkins movie. This is a close second lol

Mathilde

For Joe: another Kidman movie where she has a lot of fun (and where she might be at her most gorgeous) is Practical Magic. Would be an fitting watch for fall/ spooky season! (The sequel that just came out can be ignored imo) Oh and Nicole won the Oscar in 2003 for The Hours.

love this movie, but the second is even better! it's honestly one of my favorite movies. there is a third called Paddington in Peru, but it has a different director than the first two. I haven't seen it yet. Fun Fact: the security guard in the Geographer's Guild is played by Simon Farnaby who cowrote Paddington 2 and Wonka with director Paul King and cameos in both

Paddington 2 is very good aswell- just good vibes

I just love how visually beautiful these movies are like when they find Paddington at the station he is under the lost and found sign but the word found doesn't light up until Sally Hawkins approaches him, and how all the colour from the Browns house is gone when Paddington leaves and comes back when he returns.

Well, this was a jarring double feature of British movies lol. From the gritty realism of This is England to the heart-warming whimsy of Paddington. I’m glad I started with This is England first and watched Paddington afterwards as a palette cleanser and a reminder of the nicer parts of British culture.

Ben Gilbert

Ben Whishaw who voiced Paddington was Q in the Daniel Craig Bond movies. He was also excellent in Brideshead Revisited, Cloud Atlas, and A Very English Scandal.

Wait wait wait... They haven't seen Practical Magic!??? Kevin! Put it on an October poll stat!! We can't wait until someone buy it! 🥺

Lola Lirola

😅 I thought exactly the same thing!

It's so funny, I grew up on the books, as many people have here... But for me they were always the story of a bear who goes to live in an exotic and wildly different land!! Because for me, reading the books from Spain, England was not the familiar, but the foreign. So, instead of seeing a story of immigration, I saw a story of emigration. Instead of Paddington feeling like a chaotic outside force coming in to highlight things that were familiar, I was just discovering the same strange customs as he was!

Lola Lirola

(Be prepared: it's quite bitter! I was expecting jam when I tried it, and it isn't really 😅 An acquired taste. But you know what I find it delicious for? Glazing meatballs. Mix marmalade, garlic, ginger and soy sauce, and you have a killer glaze.)

Since no one had mentioned it, the current president of Ukraine voiced Paddington in the Ukrainian dub which is an interesting career pivot.

Laura Dawson

This is such a sweet movie. I haven’t seen the second one, so I’m looking forward to watching it with you guys. Obligatory comment that The Explorer is played by Tim Downie, who voiced Gale, The Wizard of Waterdeep, in the game Baldur’s Gate 3. He also created a wonderful podcast with Justin Chubb, called Folklands, which looks at various aspects of British folklore.

lee

sitting down to watch this with two marmalade sandwiches and a mug of hot chocolate for the full 4D Paddington experience.

vala p

it would be a good late night insomnia choice, perfect time for midnight margaritas

Tina

Yeah, nope, am out at minute 11. I remembered how it started, but I've had an exhausting work week and it's too much, can't deal right now Will watch later, very excited for you!

vala p

Perfect movie for Fat Bear Week and if anyone reading this doesn't know what fat bear week is, please look into it, it's a celebration of bears preparing for hibernation and it's one of my favorite things ever.

vala p

It does have a rocky start but it ends on a positive note, much like I hope your week does

Tina

That's very kind, thank you!

I make my own marmalade. It's delicious! The bitterness is an important part of it. Made with Seville oranges which are less sweet than other varieties. Buttered toast with marmalade has been a traditional part of a British breakfast since at least Victorian times - marmalade in preference to other preserves for some reason. I still enjoy it most mornings.

I remember reading Paddington Bear books as a 4 or 5 year old American

I remember how shocked I was when I first watched this and Nicole Kidman killed that cabbie. I'm sure the movie doesn't want you to think about that, but that man went into the river while tied up.

Youtalkingtome

I need to check it out. I know the sequel is in theaters right now!

Youtalkingtome

We need a post credits scene where he gets away lol
