To continue on my explanation of Dedra v Luthen meeting, when Luthen gives her the sacrificial knife, she's put her prints on the weapon, and now he's dead. The Empire could very easily think that she's in on it now, so Luthen is helping her ultimate downfall!

I’m pretty sure Ben Mendelson told the costume designer for Andor I want a cape. That’s also the reason why I think his favorite Star Wars character is Lando Calrissian because he also looks good in a cape.

Peter Cushing the actor who plays Tarkin in New Hope said he always wandered what a Grand Moff was.

Krinnic putting his finger on Dedra’s head, during the interrogation scene, was unscripted by Ben Mendelson

Oh yeah... When Lonni said that he's burned, he had a 2-hour window to search in Dedra's files, but Krennic says he was in the files for 3 hours... Lonni was too intrigued to stop and burned himself to get as much data as possible.

The "Doctors don't like it..." line is so full of sad innuendo. The security camera dude says that nurses uses a special elevator, but the doctors didn't want to have cameras in that area. Welcome to sexual harrasment galore! And that's NOT the empire, it's a Hospital!

I kind of disagree with your read on Supervisor Heert. I think he’s one of the few (at least in these episodes) that actually understands the competence of Dedra, the capability of Kleya, and the gravity of the situation that he’s found himself in. He doesn’t have any inflated sense of his abilities. He goes to Dedra for help even and looks suitably nervous about needing to go on the raid. He’s not a fool. I don’t think he has “little man syndrome” or anything like that. He’s more competent than a lot of Imperials.

It’s crazy how good the last half of this season is. Andor has always been good but the last two arcs are next level.

I was about to post this! Nice one Roland. It's actually the perfect edit to watch after Andor. It skips the bad spots of Rogue One (like the Krennic scene when he visits Vader on Mustafar is cringy), and makes it consequent with how Andor went. But I could understand why you would do your comment on the theatrical release of Rogue. But to watch definitely.

Went quicker than me top post this! Nice to see another fan... I asked for Andor to Joe and Kevin for SOOOOO long, and when Succession was coming to an end, I wrote to them again (because it was again, and again, and again...) to have them do Andor at that moment. They were already plainning it. Yippee!

It redeemed the 1st arc "bunch of idiots", and so much more. The Chandrillan wedding was already great, but the last 2 arcs of Season 2 are something magical!

Going to see Dedra, and not assuming she's useless is the proof IMO. He worked for her before, he knows how capable she is.

Without Dedra's overzealous ambition.... the Death Star would not have been defeated. Now, there's probably more than a DOZEN 'if not for this little thing" that all had to happen to make the victory over the Death Star happen, so its not ONLY due to Dedra. But it is one of those 'necessary' conditions to make it happen. It's also a nice example of the weaknesses of the Empire, that they are filled with people like Dedra (although thankfully many less competent) and other flaws that make them, eventually, self defeating. But is such a great little detail that her actions, that overzealous ambition, create the opportunity for the Death Star leak!

I think since they've already seen it, its not a first time watch, alternative cuts could work? I've actually not seen this Andor cut (although I would want the Vader Krennick scene, so it might not be for me). I will have to check it out sometime. But yeah I think they could do the different cut for a second watch, especially after the show!

This episode and Rogue One did a very good job of showing how the hierarchy in a Fascist Empire would be like. When Dedra was on Ferrix, she was fearsome and took pleasure out of torturing people below her. But then her much superior Krennic arrives, and he's fearsome and Dedra is scared and powerless. But then when Krennic talks to Tarkin and Darth Vader, he's now the one who is scared and powerless. It's all just a line of people who take pleasure out of scaring people below them but are ultimately also just cowards to those above them.

Yannick, from Montréal

The issue with Rogue One: The Andor Cut is that you must download it (not available streaming) Yes, it's for free, but I don't think it would have the reach it could have for their channel. Though I know of some other commentators on YT with Patreon that did the Patterson Cut of the Obi-Wan series (GRRRRREAT... not like the abomination series Disney released. Same thing for the Ashoka series... the Patterson Cut is the way to watch it, as a movie!)

Lola Lirola

Dang, I didn't even catch that, but you're right. Ew!

Roland

Absolutely, they may prefer to watch the original for their channel.

Lola Lirola

The Luthen and young Kleia show would be what Obi Wan should have been, considering Princess Leia is, at this very point, joining the Rebellion as a leader.

Lola Lirola

I didn't know this existed! Thank you so much!!

I like your observations on how cut throat the upper echelons of the empire are. Palpatine's primary tactic for controlling people has always been keeping everyone else fighting each other. Even in the prequels, as Darth Sith he instigated the separatists so that as Senator Palpatine he could ascend to chancellor and eventually emperor.

dys

"I never thought the leopards would eat MY face!" - Dedra Meero, BBY 1. Great to have Alan Tudyk back as K2, one of those actors who makes everything better.

dys

Oof, I would never have caught that. I work in healthcare tech and just thought it was like a Star Wars version of HIPAA, and that the hospital staff was less evil than the ISB for wanting to protect their staff’s privacy.

Carl Wilson

Mildly irritated by the short jokes out here, guys.

Carl Wilson

He's the reason that all our heroes could die in the next scene.

Carl Wilson

Yuck, I was just taking it as that it was a staff elevator in general, but you're probably right.

Carl Wilson

I mean, Dedra is a flaw on the one hand and also if they listened to someone like Dedra more, they might have won.

Youtalkingtome

The jokes weren’t about the character being short, but rather about him having classic little man syndrome, a toxically aggressive attitude towards others embodied by insecure shorter men to combat the perceived disrespect for their height. There is nothing wrong with being shorter, of course. There is something wrong with guys who use that as an excuse to abuse others like the guy shown.

Joshua Taylor

From what I recall it goes like this: a regular Governor is in charge of a planetary system, a Moff is in charge of a sector and a Grand Moff is in charge of a region (several sectors combined) re Tarkin was Grand Moff bc he was in charge of the Outer Rim Territories.

Carl Wilson

Would you say a character had "jolly fat guy syndrome"? "Little man syndrome" is a stereotype, not an actual thing.

Carl Wilson

Not that there's no such thing as people being insecure about their height. But people can be insecure about a thousand different things, many of them nothing to do with their physical characteristics, and to ascribe it to that is a prejudice. Besides which, as others have said, this character actually doesn't seem insecure to me at all, but shrewd and calculating. Just on the side of evil like most of the Empire operatives.

Barbara Panigot

Yep, you gotta rewatch Rogue One after this series. It means so much more.

Zach Hershman

Eh. That's a bit of a retcon. Andor's contact on the Ring of Kafrene had all of this information already. Had Dedra not gone overboard, Luthen probably wouldn't have gotten caught, which means Andor wouldn't have had to go against orders to rescue Kleya. He still would have been sent on the mission to meet his contact on Kefrene, and Rogue One would have played out the same.

dys

I'm 5 foot 7 so not short, but slightly below average height for an American man, and I've never felt like the phrase "little man syndrome" was pejorative to short men. I might be around the same height as Heert's actor. And I've had some mild insecurity over my height with younger brothers who are 5'10 or 5'11, and I recognize I have some privilege in still not being short per se so I can't claim to speak for short men on this point. So to me it still doesn't feel like a dig at short guys but I can't be the arbiter of whether that's okay.
