When this movie came out many people noted the comparisons with Double Indemnity.

Lawrence Kasdans son Jake Kasdan directed Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story.

Erin Mileur

This was the movie debut of Kathleen Turner.

Erin Mileur

William Hurt and Kathleen Turner wanted the crew to feel comfortable filming the sex scenes so they introduced themselves to the to each crew member naked.

Luis

It’s finally happening!

Fun fact Casey Kasem who voiced Shaggy in Scooby Doo he based the characters voice on a character from the tv show Our Miss Brooks named Walter Denton. On that show Walter Denton was played by Richard Crenna.

This is a seminal film of the eighties. I would have put it "on the list" if someone else had not. Brilliance from top to bottom.

Jesse

This is a very good movie, maybe the best erotic thriller.

Nick Stark

This is an incredible nice thing you both have done. Thank you so much for reacting to this iconic film early. ❤️❤️

I saw this when it first came out and didn't really like it or understand its style. Then I learned more about film noir and ended up loving it. All of its elements work together perfectly to create a modern homage to the classic noir films. It's funny that you brought up Jurassic Park in the final scene, because both were shot on Oahu in Hawaii near the same location.

Back in the 80's I had the biggest crush on William Hurt. I used to daydream we would meet and start a torrid affair! LOL! I probably have seen this film over a hundred times. It was disappointing in later years to find out he had been so abusive to Marlee Matlin. But the guy was one hell of an actor and incredibly sexy. He won the oscar for KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN..This was a great way to spend Friday night. Thanks.

"You're not too smart, I like that in a man" 😂. Fantastic, sultry (literally and figuratively) neo noir thriller. First film role for Kathleen Turner and I think the third for William Hurt, who was in pretty much every film in the 1980s. He won the best actor academy award for Kiss of the Spider Woman in 1985. Brian De Palma's Dressed to Kill came out the year before this, in 1980, so that may have been the first of the erotic thrillers. I'm not sure what you guys have already seen, but some others of the same genre from this era are: Body Double, No Way Out, The Big Easy, Fatal Attraction, Jagged Edge, Sea of Love and, of course, Basic Instinct.

When I think of Richard Krenna, I think of his TV show with Walter Brennan The Real McCoys from the late 50s. It was probably the reruns that I remember. He was also in a few of the Rambo movies.

The other side of "serial mom"...boy has Mickey Rourke fallen apart since then....next time you watch it do so with a date and not another dude

Did some naive Googling- John Barry composed Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, DR NO theme, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Midnight Cowboy, Dances with Wolves, Lion in Winter, Out of Africa, Born Free.... never knew that- quite impressive

Luis

Love Lies Bleeding is a good example of modern erotic noir. That movie is flawed and it's weighed down by technology affecting good crime stories but it is worth a watch. Another great Florida Noir I highly recommend is Night Moves (75) with the tall man Gene Hackman having to contend with teenage Melanie Griffith.

Chemical Em

Kathleen turner is also super sexy in- crimes of passion (1984)

John

That movie you mentioned in the beginning about the music video with Billy Ocean, Kathleen Turner, Danny Devito would be "Jewel of the Nile" which is the sequel to "Romancing the Stone".

John

A good early 90s noir to check out if you've never seen it is "Red Rock West"

Jonathan

My introduction to Richard Crenna was different than most people. I first saw him in his last 2 roles. One a movie where he plays Ronald Reagan (that will probably end up on your watch list at some point) and in the tv series Judging Amy which is one of the best shows no one can watch due to rights issues. It dealt with Juvenile courts and the social services system im surprised no one else has tried a show with that focus since there are so many story possibilities.

Kathleen Turner is such a great femme fatale

She WAS the voice of Jessica Rabbit after all... "I'm not BAD, I'm just drawn that way..."

2026-10-05 21:00 Joe said "I think they got familiar on set"....IMDB says that in some scenes where they show waist up, Turner was holding his "Gold Member" as Austin Powers would say....they also made the crew "comfortable" by meeting every one of the staff fully nude before the sex scenes

There's a ton on this list that we haven't seen! I have seen Dressed to Kill but a lot of those I haven't even heard of

Youtalkingtome

Thank you for introducing us to such an incredible film

Youtalkingtome

I have never heard of that one. I'm actually shocked that he won best actor and I've never heard of the movie

Youtalkingtome

I knew his son was also a director. I forgot that he mostly worked in comedy

Guy Francisco Polin

I think Joe said it best. This isn't a movie that's trying to reinvent the genre but rather create the perfect incarnation of it.

Most are Reagan era cable "soft-porn" like Silk Stalkings for the sexually repressed Religious Right who like Mike Johnson needs an app to have he and his son monitor each other's porn abuse

Actuarial Lurker

That's what he said when needing to get iced down afterwards...

Meryl Lim

Although the 80's certainly pushed the edge of how sex was portrayed on screen, I wouldn't classify any of the movies I listed as soft-porn. They all have fully realized, complex plotlines and star actors such as: Melanie Griffith, Kevin Costner, Sean Young, Gene Hackman, Dennis Quaid, Ellen Barkin, Glenn Close, Micheal Douglas and Al Pacino.

Actuarial Lurker

I was being harsh: Sea of Love is OK despite Pacino's over-acting, Dressed to Kill is a weird film- De Palma always comes across to me as a nasty sexual sadist, not like Hitchcock who uses fear as a kink. I like the others that you listed...

Ben Gilbert

Nowadays they would have an intimacy coordinator on set.
