I loved this movie when it first came out. Great feel good movie.

This movie has felt like such hidden secret of mine for a long time, I've never met anyone else who has seen it. It's just so good and funny, and heartfelt, it's one of my top comfort movies.

It's very cozy. Recognizing some of the filming locations always made it feel like it was "my movie." I saw it in the theaters and one of the local actors was there with his family. Very heartwarming.

I freaking LOVE this movie, and really enjoyed watching it again with you guys. Totally stacked cast, and so fun to see Steve Carrell playing against type as a completely vile and dislikable character. Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, and Maya freaking Rudolph all crush it. To me, it's an absolutely epic coming of age story.

Awesome! I was just wondering the other day if you would react to this!

AmyAin'tMyName

It was filmed in Massachusetts. Some scenes were filmed in the town where Carell owns a general store. Steven Tyler from Aerosmith has a home there, too.

AnnaSophia Robb is from my state of Colorado, so I always love seeing her in things. I always support actors from Colorado or have lived in Colorado. Like Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Kristen Schaal, Amy Adams, Jessica Beil, Sierra Boggess (Broadway ledgend), Don Cheadle, Frank Welker (Fred and Scooby), etc. And then there are the celebrities from Colorado I hate (Rosanne Barr, T.J Miller and Tim Allen)

I'm so glad you both enjoyed this. I forget how I first came across this movie, but it instantly became a rewatchable and enduring "coming of age" film. I really love the Owen character, and my favorite moment is when he gets between Duncan and Trent and continues to stare Trent down even after he walks away.

This was a blind watch. What an incredible movie. Liam James, Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney made the movie for me. Who ever picked this Thank you.

Not seen this movie but in the first 5 minutes I’m left wondering why on earth Toni Collette’s character is with Trent??? What a douche. If he kept saying ‘buddy’ to me like that I’d be punching him in the face. But that’s just me 🤣 Btw - The Descendants is definitely not a comedy but is a beautiful film. Very interested to see a reaction to that and it got Golden Globe awards for George Clooney (actor) and Shaeline Woodley (Supporting Actress)

This is one of my favorite indie movies. I had a vacation very much like this at 13 except without all of the happy water park parts

Jonathan

This was my introduction to Sam Rockwell and I thought he was a comedic actor till I saw him in Fosse/Verdon. Liam James who played Duncan was on a lot of young actors to watch lists after this but other than roles in 2 good but cancelled after 1 season shows he hasn’t worked much.

great movie. Carrell was such an asshat, which is totally against his usual characters. Great sweet, sad, hopeful movie. -Maya Rudolph and John Kraninski did a great indie/art movie in 2009 called "Away We Go" which is well worth checking out.
