If this show happened now, Spike wouldn't have any money problems he'd have a hugely popular red pill podcast.

Glory is one of my favorite villains! This is where things really kick into high gear, and I can’t wait for you both to enjoy the ride for the rest of this season.

ScarlettMi

I adore Buffy’s power speech in this episode. It’s so necessary. Only thing I’d add is that they should be paying her too!

Youtalkingtome

I'm very excited for the second half of the season!

Kirsten Stewart

I love this episode. Every time Buffy butts heads with the council, she grows in character, strength, self-confidence. Then there’s the revelation that Glory is a god. She’s so much fun while still having the gravitas and menace that makes a great villain and yes, much like the Mayor. Every episode of this season is so good, as a writer it’s my favourite ❤️

BrummaGen

Of the villains so far, Glory is the one that really made me feel afraid for Buffy and the gang.

Buffy's speech (and sword throwing moment) are one of my favorite things in season 5. She's stepped up as a Slayer since the last time she saw Quentin. Also: love everything about the backstory Anya has invented for herself as a Regular Human Woman.

danzthename

Her speech always makes me so happy. Putting that smug bitch Quentin in his place is deeply satisfying. I love the look on Giles's face too. He's so proud of her.

I🖤Kraken

What did Anya just name herself? Anya Esmeralda Jenkins?🤣

acidnova

Fun reaction as always! I always love any scene between Spike and Joyce :)

‘She’s a God’. Very scary cliffhanger info to end the episode on! Now you understand why the Minions are such sycophants in their interactions with her. Clare Kramer just crushed it as Glory in this season. Interesting that Buffy took Joyce and Dawn to Spike to protect them but didn’t tell him exactly what/who he’s protecting them from. He doesn’t know about Glory or the Key yet. as far as I can remember, so it’s a big ask. I do love his relationship with Joyce, it’s always been special. Buffy’s Power monologue to the Council is one of Sarah’s best scenes of the entire show. She’s so calm and centred in her delivery of it and makes mince meat of Quentin! And yes, Anya is just the best comic relief

Oh and sad Passions news, despite being a doll Timmy, did indeed die.

jimmy2k4o .

As a Scotsman I condone the “English or normal” binary. Jk I love my neighbors to the south. 🇬🇧

Youtalkingtome

For sure, Clare Kramer has been so much fun as the Big Bad. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her in the second half of the season! Agree, Buffy's closing monologue was fantastic, and SMG delivered it with her usual badassery.

Youtalkingtome

Glory is genuinely terrifying. She is the first villain to be completely unbothered with any threat, including Buffy.

Youtalkingtome

I completely agree, the writing of this episode was terrific! I am excited for how focused the show now seems to be on the threat since Riley's departure.

Finally we're dealing again with the Watcher's Council, whose existence was rather an underdeveloped idea from day one... Each time they surface we get more new questions than answers. (Why not more help to Giles in the catastrophes of S1&2? How could he not be invited to the retreat? How did Mrs Post slip through their grasp? Who let Wesley do anything? How did the special ops team bungle the Faith situation?) I think Whedon's very concept of One Girl in All the World (& her watcher) as an ancient tradition is fruitful for storylines in this very cool universe, but we have to admit the flaws... Perhaps the show wrote itself into a corner regarding the faraway and dubious council. Buffy cut her ties, but the spectre looms -- eventually bound to reenter the fray, so here we are.

Leah W.

There is so many incredible moments throughout the episode. The cliffhanger reveal that Glory is a god, Spike and Joyce watching TV, the hilarious interviews of Wilow, Xander, Anya and Tara, the introduction of the knights, Buffy showing the Watcher's Council who's boss, etc! There is way too much to talk about, and I'm very excited to see your reaction to the rest of the season!

dys

Angelus was terrifying because of how he could use his personal knowledge of the Scooby Gang to really torture them, but he wasn't a match for Buffy in a one-on-one fight. The Mayor was very powerful but his affable demeanor and him not really seeing the Scoobies as a threat for most of his season made him more fun than scary. Glory is a really fun villain too but you're always aware of the raw power and cruelty behind her ditzy affect.

dys

Big Ws for Buffy and Giles standing up to the council this episode. Spike: "Maybe your beauty's fading" 2026 Sarah Michelle Gellar: "...nope"

Youtalkingtome

For certain. Methinks the vampire doth protest too much.

Youtalkingtome

The show is definitely poised to run with Glory / the council / the knights in the post-Riley rest of the season.

Neill Shaughness

Kevin, I think you miss heard the opening conversation in the last episode. Anya suggested that Buffy's relationship problems were Buffy's fault. Xander responded with "I don't think it's a pattern with her. It's just that now that it's happened again, with man #2, I wonder how she's handling it"

Kt B

“I love what you’ve neglected to do with the place” Joyce and Spike are everything.

Kt B

I just checked on IMDB, and every episode for the rest of the season rates between 8.0 and 9.7

Tina

I think the council was written this way very deliberately. They are an unfair, unjust, out-of-touchand not-fit-for-purpose entity of authority, something that many teenagers experience regularly. Their watcher candidates get moulded into shape, probably with lots of stamping out of independent thought and actions. How Giles ever made it through to get his chance at being a watcher is unclear to me. Then again, he is plenty stuffy in the first two seasons.

Carl Wilson

I like Glory too but let's not rewrite history just to say so. I think the Mayor, once he was impervious to harm, and Angelus always, but especially with the death of Jenny, were plenty scary.

Carl Wilson

Yes, I think we're to take it that Buffy shaped Giles as much as Giles shaped her - he understandably repressed his Ripper side completely when he went on the straight and narrow, but she showed him that letting your rebel side out could be healthy, as long as you didn't let it take you over. The Council's previous "test" of Buffy was a particular turning point there. (Obviously they also just developed the character to suit Tony Head's strengths, but in-story that's how it reads to me.)

dys

For me Glory is the scariest big bad of the series.

Erica

I only just started to watch, but i wanted to share my theory that Xander is so pro-riley because on some level he thinks hope for riley means hope for himself. He could neverhave the strength and powers of a vampire, but riley (once he wasn't being drugged by the initiative anymore) is just a regular dude, someone xander could measure up to in theory. I do think xander loves anya and isn't really in love with buffy anymore, he's still way possessive and judgemental of the guys she dates, and i think tbis is part of that

Erica

Also before I forget, i wanted to present you with this: Marc Blucas vs Nick Lachey. I've never seen them in the same room before 🤔🤣

Claire Eyles

I do sincerely hope the late Harris Yulin did manage to "handle himself one of those first class tickets to the resurrection". What a wonderful actor, with such a prestigious career.

Jamie Morgan

"She's a god." Still sends chills down my spine. His delivery is perfect. Rot13 for spoilers: Gurz gnyxvat nobhg ubj havzcbegnag Ora vf vf selvat zr!

Lola Lirola

They're the *best* together. Their early scene where Spike drinks cocoa while moaning about Drusilla is a highlight of the show for me.

Lola Lirola

Dang. Look what getting rid of Riley freed us for! (I kid, I kid 😅)

acidnova

I had no idea you could post pictures in the comments!

Erica

It's a pretty new feature, but very useful!

Vicky N

I agree, Anya was the worst offender in that conversation. Xander was defending Buffy
