This is Basil Rathbone’s last film sword fight he later admitted that Danny Kaye almost skewered him several times.

Birthmark or rightful heir aside the kingdom is going to be plunged into years of turmoil because until the king comes of age a regency will rule and all backstabbing shenanigans that entails.

In 1939 Basil Rathbone played Richard III in the movie Tower of London along with Boris Karloff and Vincent Price its basically Shakespeare meets Universal horror.

If anyone who watched this is trying to place the lovely Glynis Johns( Jean) she was the mean granny the Ref, the nice Granny in While you Were Sleeping, and the Mom in Mary Poppins. Saved you a Google.

I don't know if you noticed but the actor Alan Napier who plays Sir Brockhurst played Alfred on the Adam West Batman TV show.

Glad you enjoyed it. One of my comfort films when I need some good laughs. Danny Kaye’s humor (physical, verbal, and otherwise) is on sparkling display here! 😅 Love the way it’s shot. 🎥 It was done using VistaVision (which has recently come back into vogue with some prominent directors) and it looks fantastic.

One of my dad's all-time favorite movies. He passed a few months ago so I have feelings about this movie but glad to watch it with your reactions.

Danny Kaye! I love him, but haven’t seen this one before - what a treat!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It has been so long since I have seen the old Batman show, I never would have caught it.

It was bothering me; I knew I had seen her before. I had to look it up: indeed, it was Mary Poppins.

Yeah, if Game of Thrones taught us anything, it's that any weakness in the line of succession is a recipe for civil war. The image of the tiny baby on the throne was pretty hilarious, though.

Ben Gilbert

She's one of those actors whose voice you recognize right away.

Ahh! I haven't watched the reaction yet but I am SO excited! This was my childhood favorite movie and I haven't watched it in years. I had almost the whole thing memorized for a time and me and my family still quote it to one another constantly! Can't wait, thank you Rob Bob for sponsoring!!

Rob Bob

While You Were Sleeping would be perfect for the channel, assuming one or both haven’t seen it.

Anytime! 😀 Was surprised to find out it lost money upon initial release (not a bomb; it did ok, but it was pricey for its day). Worth every penny then, and now.

Michelle Taylor

The actress who played Captain Jean is Glynnis Jones. She played the mother in Mary Poppins.

Sammy Fan

The actress who played Jean was also the mother in Mary Poppins.

In the opening credits for Music, you may have noticed the name Sylvia Fine. She was Danny Kaye's wife, and she provided the "specialty" songs for his stage musicals, movies, and nightclub acts. Their specialty was fast tongue-twisting songs, and his shows would often have a song by her interpolated, even if someone else wrote the other songs. And indeed, in this movie, his big solo "The Maladjusted Jester" is entirely by her. (She wrote lyrics but not music for the other songs.)

I'm delighted to see this show up here. "Silly" comedy movies often feel dated to later generations of young audiences, but this one seems to hold up well. I can testify that it's a good one to share with kids who are getting old enough to follow stories in movies -- this plot comes across clearly enough and makes them feel smart. Also, kids (like me and my contemporaries when it first came out) love the visual gags (the "snap!" hypnotism, the Purple Pimpernel) and the easy-to-remember verbal gags: "Get it?" "Got it." "Good." and the whole "pellet with the poison" sequence.

You can never go wrong with a Danny Kaye film. He was known to be a really lovely person (despite the pinky ring lol) and was a massive talent. His few dramatic roles are quite compelling but his comedy and musical performances always take the cake. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is one of my favorite as well as Wonder Man. You definitely need to check out White Christmas during the holidays.

Stephen Sondheim wrote the song "Send In the Clowns" specifically for her voice and style, in his stage musical A Little Night Music. Glynis Johns is also in the delightful 1952 British comedy The Card, starring Alec Guinness and with a young Petula Clark.

Basil Rathbone, who was Ravenhurst in this and famous for playing Sherlock Holmes, was Sir Guy of Gisborne in The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn. He was supposedly the best fencer in Hollywood at the time

That was so much fun to rewatch with you guys! It truly is just such a delightful movie and the sword fighting scene at the end never gets old! My family and I love quoting several things from The Court Jester on a very regular basis, especially: "I can snap you in and snap you out!" and "Get it?" "Got it!" "Good!"

Abby T W

Yes! I watched it constantly as a child in the '90s; I didn't understand most of it but the visual gags and wordplay were a lot of fun and my parents could still really enjoy it too. It's like a Pixar movie of the '50s -- fun for the whole family!

Danny Kaye was a master at twisty lyric songs. Nobody can match him. You should check out THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. He was also a great humanitarian, famous for his work with UNICEF.
