Bradley Whitfield is an idiot in this you’re dating Elizabeth Shue and you’re cheating on her so dumb.

Courtney

You know how kids have that movie they inexplicably fixate on and watch 500 times? And the quality is irrelevant because you’re only like 7? Yeah, this was mine 😂 It’s got its issues (and probably isn’t fit for a second grader, good lord), but I still have a fondness for it. As an adult, I’ll never get over Vincent D’Onofrio in this and Full Metal Jacket the same year!

Courtney

Agreed! Although Sesame Plexer was my screen name for most sites in the 00s, what a name.

Cristy

"I've got the babysitting blues"....Oh I am SO excited you have no idea. Thank you, Jennifer E (I feel like we are on the same wavelength when it comes to movies sometimes, lol).

acidnova

Ooh! Been waiting for this one! Can't wait to watch it later tonight! Such a fun 80s flick. Some years ago, I had a super minor procedure that required only 2 stitches and of course, this movie came to mind!

Erin Mileur

When it comes 80s comedies that had a cocaine budget the best example of this had to be Soul Man(1986).

Cristy

This! Elisabeth Shue is totally my girl crush.

Cristy

Totally unrelated but The Karate Kid movies (well, one and two) and Cobra Kai are so much fun and, yes, she is in the first movie.

Heather

Nobody leaves here without singing the blues!

fire12wife

Elizabeth Shue was in Back to the Future 2 (1989) and The Karate Kid (1994)

Cristy

When I was young, naive and sheltered watching this down in Australia I was like nope not going to Chicago ever, that place seems nuts (coincidentally, I have been there since and loved it). Seeing Keith Coogan in this makes me wonder if the guys have ever seen "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead."

Michelle Taylor

Keith Coogan is the grandson of legendary actor Jackie Coogan.

Jonathan

Eventually you will be watching the 3 Karate Kid movies so you guys can watch Cobra Kai at some point since you would love it but the second movie does not take place the next day. People get confused because they add the original ending of Karate Kid 1 to the beginning of Karate Kid 2 as a prologue to bridge the two movies and save money but then there is a time jump.

trenton gragg

This was Chris Columbus directorial debut film. This was Bradley Whitford’s run of being the a-hole jerk in movies. This movie, Revenge of the Nerds part 2 and Scent of a woman. Elisabeth Shue did pose for the fake playboy spread. She did not pose any nude pictures.

trenton gragg

I would say that Cobra Kai makes part three a better movie, when Terry Silver returns.

Michelle Taylor

In the 1987 comedy Adventures in Babysitting, the photos in the prop copy of Playboy that resemble lead character Chris Parker were specifically staged and photographed using actress Elisabeth Shue herself.

Lola Lirola

The "Miss March" photo is actually Elizabeth Shue for real. They shot the pictures with real Playboy photographers for the movie. The 80s were really a different time. Oof.

Lola Lirola

I think I must be Sarah's age, if she was 10 in 1987 when the movie happens! So yeah, she would have been blown away by the MCU. She would have gone to Comic Con every year, I bet! That's fun to think about.

Annie519

I would love if they reacted to that film, one of my favorites as a kid!!

Kristi Govertsen

Same! My sis and I used to watch this movie over and over, while dancing around our bedroom singing “Then He Kissed Me.”🤣

Cristy

Me too!

Cristy

That is very true!

Cosmic Slice

It's adorable that you think 80s movies got rated "R" for language, lol.

fire12wife

My sister and I did, too! I even had a similar dress that had the drop waist and short, ruffled skirt that I had worn to a junior high dance... good times!

ScarlettMi

I cannot begin to count how many times I’ve watched this movie. My babysitting jobs were never this interesting, but she’s definitely my babysitter role model!

ScarlettMi

“I’m right on top of that, Rose!”

Mitch

Thanks Jennifer E.

Gwenn Guthrie

That was even more fun than I remembered!

nj

billy madison too

Jonathan

You said Joe looked like a Wire character, you did have one wire cast member. Gus the editor from season 5 is the gang leader.

Jonathan

Disney did a very bad remake that bears little resemblance to this movie a few years ago. It was made for the preteen crowd.

ScarlettMi

The movie is rated PG-13. You’re allowed one “fuck” for sure before R but it’s a non-specific rule and context changes things. This moment was fine and non-sexual so the MPAA was okay with it. The only reason it’s edited on Disney+ is that it was the tv edit uploaded during the time before they started adding higher rated films and general Fox stuff and other movies on Disney+. For a while they only had kid-friendly things. They just never bothered to fix the upload. This was thoroughly a kids/family movie.

Annie519

She's also in a great and very underrate film called Heart & Souls, I would love for the guys to react to it. It's got a great cast, a young RDJ!

Cristy

@Annie I love Heart and Souls with her and RDJ. Such a heart warming one.

Erin Mileur

The way they portray Chicago in this movie it feels like this is then someones version of Chicago who lives in suburbs or else now someone who watches way too much Fox News.

JENNIFER E

We should start coordinating our selections!

JENNIFER E

I'm so glad everyone else has such fond memories of this movie! It was one of 3 VHS tapes that I rented so many times from our local video store as a kid, the owner told my mom it was cheaper if we just bought it.

danzthename

My friends and I used to quote this movie constantly in high school. It's so ridiculous but I love it. It's sooo 80s. Like aggressively 80s. :)

Cristy

This sounds eerily familiar, the rental store told my mum we should do the same with Clue (and probably this movie too in hindsight).

Lola Lirola

I had the exact same dress (in kid size) she wears in that opening! I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it this time!

Lola Lirola

Fire12wife, me too!! I had that dress too! The skirt was in pink though. And then... A couple of years ago, Drag Race had a challenge where they had to wear "the ugliest dress ever", and Trixie Mattel wore exactly this dress in pink!!! I almost died laughing. I felt so pretty when I wore it as a kid!

Lola Lirola

Ah, the 80s. When a "thoroughly family movie" could have an entire subplot about a literal highschooler being a playboy centrefold and none of us batted an eye! 😅

fire12wife

That was on my short list of movies to add to their list... but I've been spending way too much money buying these reactions! Hitting the breaks for a bit!

JENNIFER E

Adventures in Babysitting, Space Camp, and (weirdly, recent watch) Arsenic and Old Lace. My brother and I were weird kids.

JENNIFER E

You ain't wrong, Erin!

Pam Nail

- I have watched this countless times, thanks to taping it off the TV during a free HBO preview. :P - I know most people associate "And Then He Kissed Me" with that awesome oner from Goodfellas, but I'll always think of Elisabeth Shue dancing around her room and dreaming of a date with Bradley Whitford. - Speaking of which, BW was basically always a jerk in the 80s. - I just noticed the gangster who throws the knife in Brad's foot is played by Clark Johnson -- the newspaper editor from season five of The Wire! - It's obviously not meant to be Chris, but that is definitely Elisabeth Shue in those magazine photos.

Youtalkingtome

Wow, he's such an under appreciated actor. His range is insane

Youtalkingtome

It really is. I love that she was a Thor fan before it was cool

Cosmic Slice

Honestly, most of us who grew up watching 70s and 80s movies... don't even notice them, lol. I mean we grew up with George Carlin doing his "Seven words you can't say on television" routine 😂

Jonathan

Brenda had quite the glow up between this and her most famous role as Arnold’s love interest in Kindergarten Cop

vala p

At that time, that dress was the pinnacle of fashion and beauty. I wore one to homecoming and my fashion sense was impeccable. I wore bubble skirts and Exclamation! perfume.

vala p

Babysitters had a hard time in the 80s and 90s.

vala p

RDJ is phenomenal in that movie

fire12wife

Vincent D’Onofrio was also in Mystic Pizza a year later! I know it was a small roll in this movie, but this is where I started crushing on him! I was 12 when this came out... and after I saw him in Mystic Pizza, I was in love! LOL!
