Adam Wingard, who directed this, also had another solid horror flick (You’re Next) but then spent the past decade in the studio mines (he did a PANNED Death Note adaptation, the Blair Witch remake, a couple Godzillas). He has a new movie out rn that seems pretty cool, similar in tone to this one. Fingers crossed it’s also a good time and that he gets to keep doing original stuff. I think this was the first movie I ever saw Maika Monroe in (who plays the daughter). She’s in a looot of horror; a mixed bag of either eh-movies or straight-up the best stuff I’ve seen recently lol (It Follows, Longlegs).

Thanks for your reaction and I'm glad you had a good time! I wanted to give you a little something for October. I'm kind of cracking up that you released this reaction at the same time as "A Room with a View." Two compatible titles but very different films! You may be potentially seeing Dan Stevens again very soon but I won't spoil what it is!

I really liked her in It Follows! I also really liked You're Next, as well!

Also, I love the soundtrack and I need more modern movies with synth-heavy soundtracks in my life.

Me too! She gets steady work and is one of the most recognizable faces of modern american horror and somehow I still feel like she’s underrated.

I really enjoy this film, it's just a great time and has a huge amount of style. Dan Stevens is this perfect mix of sinister and likeable, and the goofy supersoldier twist somehow works. I also think it's probably the only good US film about the Iraq/Afghanistan wars - imperial boomerang as slasher movie where all the violence inflicted overseas is brought to sleepy small-town USA, everyone being all "thank you for your service" and extending infinite trust to a sinister military guy who ends up going on a killing spree. It gets quite on the nose with Reddick's character denying that 'David' is a psychopath - "by all accounts, he was the ideal soldier". The ideal soldier performing as he should in an environment he shouldn't results in a bloodbath. He wins 'hearts and minds' and then starts putting bullets through those organs too.

Oh, I just found out that Dan Stevens is going to be playing Robocop in an upcoming Amazon Prime Series. Can definitely see here that he has the chops for it!

OH, he made the Death Note movie? I had some friends in college who are big anime fans, and they hated it!

I mean after seeing him in this, I think he can do it!
