I actually did enjoy Rise of Skywalker, I’m not going to lie, and I’m not the only one, but I’m not going to argue about the quality either, especially because I’m sad they chickened out and listened to the “Last Jedi” haters. If they wanted to let Rian Johnson keep going instead, I’d be ok with that. I don’t subscribe to “Reylo” as a romance. I don’t think it came out of nowhere because it was intended as a dyad force connection, not a grand love story. The intimacy comes from knowing each other’s mind. Not romance. The kiss is an emotional goodbye. That is all. But that not being clear to people is a strike against it too. I do find it weird people didn’t expect Palpatine to come back in such a blatantly circularly structured theme. He’s the greatest big bad in the supposed grand finale film. Of COURSE he’d be back. One could argue they needed a better lead up. But the New Republic couldn’t know. They’d have stopped him sooner.

Lastly I will also note that plot suffered hugely from missing Carrie Fisher. It was obviously supposed to be Leia’s major final goodbye, and instead we lost our dear Carrie. 😭
