I always hate that concept because it reduces peoples' worth to purely their looks. But Chang is a very troubled person so yeah.

@Tmatts, you're right, of course, but the idea that incredibly flawed men are able to easily marry women (and subsequently neglect them for comic effect) is a REALLY time-tested trope in American sitcoms.

"Not Another Teen Movie" has the greatest satirization of the "girl takes off her glasses and is suddenly hot" trope I've ever seen.

I'm with you, Kevin. Jeff tried to help everyone. Was he supposed to just take the punishment out of solidarity? What if he managed to get the study group out of it but not the rest of the class? Would they have refused special treatment?

I agree with Kevin, I felt bad for Jeff here. He was trying to help the whole time, he could just only get so far. And he did open the connection with Chang enough to eventually succeed. My favorite She's All That joke is that if you think Rachel Leigh Cook was ugly with glasses on, that's your brain on drugs.

Great point! I think Jeff has been self-serving many times, but in this instance, he went in for the good of everyone. The problem isn't Jeff's selfishness, it's Chang's unhinged narcissism.
