This episode won an emmy for best directing! Brian Cox did submit this ep in his nomination but he lost to Jeremy for his performance in the finale. Both are top-notch and very different type of performances. It really is one of the most Shakespearean like episodes and curiously enough they mention him and Hamlet a few times in the dialogue.

The next episode is one of my favorite in the show :) You mentioned some hbo shows you haven't watched and I need to recommend Barry, it's one of the best comedy shows ever and it's final season is arriving in the same time that succession is. There's a character in that show directly inspired by Matthew's portrayal of Tom( Sally) and I think that like succession, Barry knows how to mix comedy with drama, to the point where a lot of people argue if it's one or the other, but it can be both

Something that I think goes overlooked here is the development of the Pierce plot in this one episode. From going from knowing basically nothing about Pierce to getting so much information about every main characters motives for or against the deal. It reveals a lot about the characters. Logan and his vendetta and obsession with winning above all, Roman wants to please his father, Tom wants to please his wife, Shiv is worried about public perception of the deal, Gerri plays both sides to play it safe and Ken is continuing to develop. It is about as well as you could set up a new plot.

Yeah the plot comes crashing out of nowhere, and the dynamics between all the characters is so good it really gives their motives so much more dramatic weight.

Brian Cox is a well established Shakespearean actor, It brings SO much to this performance. Jeremy Strong is fantastic as well, but his performance better be twice as good in the finale. I think Cox should definitely have the Emmy for this episode.

I wouldn't write it off. We have a list of shows that we are considering and that one may or may not be on the list. :)

I binged Barry over the past few weeks. I wasn't shocked that I enjoyed it, I'd heard good things of course. But I was surprised at how masterful and surprising it was, brilliantly inventive throughout.
