Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Season 2, Episode 4

It's a bummer, but they had to write Greg out of the show because Santino Fontana went to work on another project. We love Santino and his smooth voice, but we won't see him again, sadly. I love both of his songs this episode, and especially how "Tap That Ass" flirts with the innuendos (like the "not on my chest" bit). "It Was a Shit Show" was amazing, of course. The makeover song is definitely not one I ever relisten to because it's so annoying. Intentionally annoying, like it's highlighting how annoying Rebecca's delusions are.

I am glad to hear you liked this episode, guys! I absolutely loved it. Don't get me wrong - I never really warmed up to Rebecca, in all 4 seasons (maybe the very last 2 episodes but you will learn why much later ;) ). I never liked her, I never understood why all the guys were into her.... she's annoying to me to this day. The show is still amazing, though. "It was a sh*t show" is one of my top 5 songs, I think (and not only because of Santino Fontana's amazing voice) - I knew you would appreciate the song because it aired everything you've been saying and it was great to hear Greg agree with us and move on. it also brings me to tears every time because it reminds me of all my own unsuccessful (and slightly toxic) relationships. I look forward to your reactions of the middle of this season - it gets quite interesting, and more ridiculous than annoying, hopefully :D

Oh, and how amazing is it to have a show that was just on regular TV portray a typical abortion as if it's just the routine medical procedure that it is?

After this episode first aired, we found out that Santino Fontana was indeed leaving the show. (It's complicated, but in the move from being a half-hour Showtime series to an hourlong CW series, they all ended up with one-season contracts; everyone else renewed but he did not, as he had some unrefusable theater opportunities, culminating in starring in the musical Tootsie, for which he won the Best Actor Tony award.) He did give them these 4 extra episodes to send the character off appropriately. And the show does not forget about Greg, as you'll see. Two amazing songs in this one: "It Was a Shit Show," for which they were able to petition the CW to allow them two bleeps (something that's generally against network policy -- you'll notice he doesn't finish his last line, thus evading a forbidden third bleep); and "We Tapped That Ass," a fantastic duet for the guys that shows off their tap-dancing expertise.

Yeah, seeking "Makeover" again is an experience of "oh look I'd forgotten that song... and I remember exactly why". I mean, it's perfect for the role it plays in the story absolutely no doubt about that! (I did appreciate the "I had a stroke" bit which I had forgotten about enough to be surprised)

Rebecca is a tough hang. We are still deeply entertained by her but we can see how she would come off as annoying. His voice is absolutely incredible and finding out that Greg isn't going to be on the show anymore is really really sad.

I'm really glad that he continued to have success and Tootsie is a classic. I'd love to see his performance in that.

They even downplayed it slightly...to the point where another reactor recently completely missed it and went into the next episode wondering if she had decided to keep the baby. :D I would have probably liked slightly more - like, showing that, even though it is routine, people can still be scared to go through and can be in pain afterwards.

I had forgotten about the 2 bleeps! I never pay attention to them anyway because I am singing over them 🤣 also, I hate the unresolved ending but it is also a device, I think. It shows us that he doesn't feel the need to repeat himself because Rebecca understood him perfectly (even if she continues to pout because that is who she is)

I don't know, I think I understand what you mean in that those things could have been described more explicitly, but I think if you're going into it with the idea of making a deliberate "abortion is no big deal" statement, they showed those two things just fine. Well, not the "scared" bit maybe but it was very clear that Paula was *reluctant* to get an abortion, that she didn't think of herself as "the kind of person" who'd get an abortion. And showing her uncharacteristically in bed, with her husband being all solicitous of her and one of her sons *very* uncharacteristically doing something nice for her instead of being the whiny demanding annoyances we're usually shown them being... I think drives home the physical burden an abortion can be as well as anything could.

I don't mean to say that they were making an "abortion is no big deal" statement. But they did a good job of showing that it is just a routine medical procedure.

I still cry every time I watch Greg leave. Forever missed. :`-(

I also took the end of the song as Greg being a little emotional, and he didn't finish the song because he really didn't want it to end. He did say that he loved her and how he couldn't say goodbye because he would never leave.

There is a live version of Rachel Bloom singing “It Was a Shitshow” acoustic. It’s amazing- HOWEVER!! Don’t watch it until you are least on Season 3 as there are cast members on stage and I adhere to the No Spoilers rule!

The representative from Miss Douche is in another CW show called "Jane the Virgin". As someone who loves both shows, I think you guys would enjoy it. It's also a very different kind of show, breaks the fourth wall a bunch, with great characters.
