I think it's pretty universally agreed upon that Kendall tries to or does end his life after this. I can't imagine another ending for Kendall after losing the only thing he's truly cared about. Jeremy Strong even tried to jump into the river when filming the last scene, but the actor playing Colin stopped him, lol. Tragic ending for Shiv, but it's self-inflicted. She basically becomes her mother, stuck with Tom even though she really doesn't like him very much and a baby that they're definitely gonna fuck up. Meanwhile, Roman returns to his life of fucking around. This whole thing was basically a detour. But, he made sure to leave everybody with a fascist president before he jumped ship lol. I love the scene of Logan with Connor and some of the goons, because it makes me think of what kind of relationships the kids could've had with him if they weren't at war over the company. Connor was there and Connor was the one who knew about Logan's burial plan. Even though he never felt truly liked by his dad, he still probably had the best relationship with him out of all the kids.

I cried so much from this finale but it's so perfect. if you rewatch the whole series again (which I did) it's the ideal ending. No real "winners", just bullshit rich kids stuck in the cycle of generational trauma

I honestly think it was a margin call for Shiv to vote against Kendall. There are a couple things I think that influenced her decision. 1.) She couldn't stand to see Kendall be CEO especially after how cocky he was acting beforehand, putting his feet on the desk and tossing expletives around freely at the most important meeting of his life. 2.) She saw that she would probably have more power going with Tom instead of Kendall. Also maybe she finally decided to support Tom in something after chasing after her own interests for so long. 3.) There's a chance that their child lives a somewhat decent life if Shiv and Tom stay together. If they stay separated or divorce, the child will almost certainly be neglected. 4.) Shiv saw it as an opportunity to break the cycle of horribleness that exists in their family, which is rooted in the company. Take the company away and maybe there's a possibility that they can move on and become better people. Overall, a crazy and unforgettable finale. It was perfect, but I hated every second of it. Also yeah, they definitely implied that Kendall was sterile, was not expecting that lol.

This show is great for a rewatch in your free time. The clues are there for Tom very early on. Rewatching it with the knowledge you now have about the characters really changed how I viewed them on the rewatch. Thanks for the ride guys!

Theres a bunch of good stuff on youtube about Successions ending comeing from King Lear and the Henriad. Also, if I were to suggest a new show to fill Successions place, it would be HBOs "Gangs of London". The first season was great and it looks like they just came out with a second season that I will be starting this weekend.

I think you summed it up perfectly. Especially the bit with Connor. Watching the show, Logan was hard on everyone. Connor the least though. He was still awful but it was not nearly as bad as the rest of them.

Right? They really kicked Kendall in this. Kendall being sterile was so out of nowhere but a nice touch. I do think you're right. It's a combo of all those things and ultimately Ken just isn't that guy.

I heard Jeremy Strong talking about the 4th season and he compared it to Richard III. I found that interesting.

Random thoughts in no particular order ( sorry for my bad english) : 1. I think in the end, Shiv chose..."love" ? AND convieniency. She realized (but she already knew) that Kendall wasn't fit for the job, yes. But she thought of Tom. Being married to Tom and have his baby...They're perfect match for the legacy. Roy's blood, and a decent CEO and a man that she can rely one, now that they've "said the worst to each other". 2. I don't really know or remember the backstory for that, but obvsily Kendall and Rava's children are adopted kids ? (I suppose, bc Sophie doesn't "look" like her parents and Iverson may have been adopted or it's medically assisted procreation ? So technically, they're not "Roy's blood"). 3. I really think that Roman was in love with Gerri. Mommy issues, probably led to that. And I agree he did a terrible thing sending her d**k*pics, that is not good at all. But I think he tried to show her love but he doesn't know how bc he's behaving like an irresponsible child all the time. But when you go back and you see how he looks at her...especially that last time she appears in the office, Roman avoids her and breaks down...To me, it's heartbreak. And in the end, he's the most realistic one : he accepted that they were bullshit, that they were in fact not loved...and that maybe they can be free now. Maybe it's naive, but I think in the end, they are or could be "okay". Shiv and Tom have a chance at not try to f*** their child too much, Kendall slowly but surely accepts his fate and moves on. Roman ?? I don't know.

I think that's pretty close to it. I read somewhere that Roman orders the martini at the end and that's a nod to Gerri. That was her drink of choice. Shiv sort of chose love. Her relationship with Tom is very similar to her family relationship. Hence the cycle continues! I think Ken is dead in a year imo.

Two (and a half) suggestions for similar tone replacements for Succession. The first is I Claudius, zero props budget (not required, it's basically stage theater) but an INSANE cast knocking Robert Graves' incredible novels out of the park. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I,_Claudius_(TV_series) So much Imperial Roman political backstabbing....sometimes literally! The second is House of Cards...but watch the UK version before the USA re-imagining if you possibly can. The UK one is only a few episodes (three seasons of four episodes each or something) and you might need a little help with the British parliamentary system jargon. but it will absolutely set you up for the very good US version (the showrunner Beau Willimon went on to co-write Andor)

Started binging this show for the first time alongside your reactions in August! I just finished the show today and wow, what a ride! I loved how Tom first responded to Greg asking about his job with the classic aloof Logan "Uh-huh." Also, I watched this video after finishing and it had a lot of good points if you want to check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSfQNTYC9sg And there's also this scene from Season 3 that foreshadows Logan's death which I thought was interesting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuaqOj5Yhtk

What I loved so much about Succession is that Jesse Armstrong is a total literature and history nerd which makes me happy. By the way, the house was in Barbados. I think the scene at the house with the meal fit for a king was the last scene they shot and there were lots of tears and pictures on social media so they got to close with such a great sibling moment.

Enjoyed this finale even more on the rewatch. Tom ending up on the throne feels perfect and makes his arc quite funny. The scene of them making a mess in the kitchen was fantastic. They really come off as such authentic siblings. And also as people who never had to clean up their own messes. Of course the Roy siblings couldn't keep it together long enough to get anything done as a team. For Shiv, the decision makes sense. She'll have more power with Tom as CEO than Kendall. Their poor kid is going to be so fucked up. At least Ken's kids have Rava, who might be the only character to escape the show looking halfway decent. (On that note, my read is that Ken's son was conceived with a donor, and his daughter was adopted.) Anyway, I've had a blast re-watching the show with your commentary. I really appreciate that you guys react to shows like Succession and Mad Men, which in my experience can be hard to sell people on. Cheers!

Hey thank you so much! I don't know why this show isn't bigger! I think it's one of the all time greats. Just a fantastic show with excellent performances and a perfect finale in my opinion
