Weird Magic

Joel shouldn't have to feel OK with someone making fun of him all the time (even as part of an act), and that's OK that he doesn't. Joel shouldn't ask Midge to give up her career, and he doesn't. Midge shouldn't have to give up her career for her husband, and she doesn't. Both of them know/realize that in order for both of them to be the happiest, it can't be together. And that's OK BECAUSE they love each other so much. They are both sacrificing being together for the other person. Such an odd dichotomy and so really well conceived as a story arc. As for the henchmen, I think there are three possibilities given by the show. Harry Drake the Booker (David Paymer) Eddie the owner who told Susie not to have Amanda Gleason anywhere near the Gaslight Sophie Lennon I honestly can't remember who it was or even if they ever confirmed it. Originally airing on December 5, 2018, 'Simone' is Episode 1 of Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 9th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.3, placing it as the #8 ranked episode of this season and #5 out of all the episodes shown so far.

meh. a statement is only slander if it's untrue. i may be misremembering, but i think everything midge said about sophie was factually accurate or clearly opinion. so, she definitely spilled information sophie wouldn't want made public, and it certainly wasn't flattering to sophie - but if it wasn't also false, it wasn't slander. (not to say it couldn't be actionable on some other basis.) 😉

I think you guys were misunderstanding Rose a lot here, the last few months have been nothing but lies and secrets from her husband and her daughter, she feels like she’s insignificant to them. Her being in Paris is her wanting to feel significant again, to feel her old self again.

I think Joel’s choice here is incredibly brave, and very progressive in a sense. He is giving up the love of his life so that she can do the thing she’s best at - the thing, by the way, that HE wanted to be best at, but failed. How many men in 1959 would have had that wisdom and integrity? I think Joel is a pretty incredible person. It’s true, that wisdom stops at the water’s edge when it comes to being the butt of her jokes, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. The fact that he is able to separate Midge’s existence from his ego and support her agency is more than could have been expected from many men of his time and place. I think he even understands that his feelings about being laughed at are petty, but regardless of their pettiness, it’s not something he can just suck up and get over - I think he’s proven at this point that if he could, he would. It’s a very different time. If you can’t tell, I’m a bit of a Joel stan. He’s such a great role model for men who fuck up. He recognizes it, owns it, learns from it, and goes a hell of a long way to make amends.

Lived in Paris and it is absolutely beautiful. As beautiful as I have seen it in movies and TV. I remember just being continually awestruck every day I walked around.

The goons were sent by Harry Drake (the booker). And yes, they really shot in Paris. They even flew in Michael Zegen (Joel) just so Rachel could act opposite him in the phone scene.

You're right, they still LOVE each other but they need to be apart for now until they can figure this out. It's interesting seeing this juxtaposed with her parents as well.

Yeah we kinda realize that, we took it as a bit of a crisis but at the end of the day running away from your problems won't solve anything! We just watched the next episode and loved how they handled it!
