I forgot Laura Dreyfuss was in this season.

If I understand correctly, we’re getting episode 5 some time in the next 24-48 hours, and then episode 6 will be NEXT weekend. Did I get that right?

I love these Catskills episodes. They get us out of New York (like the Paris episodes) and show us a whole different aspect of their lives. Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino are married. The opening scene of Ethan playing with the "toys" is a nearly shot-by-shot recreation of the opening credits of 1963's "To Kill a Mockingbird," including the theme music. If you haven't seen the film, it's definitely worth it. Throughout the series, there are so many references to other movies and directors that it's hard to spot them all.

Yes, Daniel Palladino is the husband of show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. He’s been a collaborator on pretty much everything she has done. In my opinion, Daniel is the strongest dialogue writer on the show while Amy is the strongest director. Any time there’s a great scene like the ending of this episode with a more relaxed pace and a more serious tone, Daniel is usually responsible for it. By the same token, the madcap mile-a-minute comedy filmed with stunning oners is largely an Amy thing, and so many of the best sequences of that sort come from her episodes. While I think that Amy’s style is the most recognizable/iconic element of the show, I really appreciate what Daniel brings to it and I think that his contributions deserve more recognition than they usually get in the discourse surrounding the show.

You know... when you brought up how long it can take to get choreographed scenes right... I just was reading recently about Fred Astaire. It took him five weeks to get "Putting on the Ritz"... and he's the best that ever was. Also... I forgot they used the "Chicken Fat Song" for Abe's exercises. I love Robert Preston's voice... singing or speaking... from Music Man to The Last Starfighter.

The bts videos i'm thinking of that would be interesting are from later seasons so I'll wait until you get to those episodes to share. The Maisel seasons take about 6 months to shoot. Season 2 shot from March 2018 to September 2018! I love the show, and I would say it becomes more ambitious and visually entertaining post-season 1 but season 1 will always be my favorite self contained story arc. Excited for you guys to get to some of these back half season two episodes though! The next ep is my favorite of the season along with the finale.

I knew it felt familiar but I couldn't place it. My first thought was Spielberg but I couldn't place the movie. Thanks for the heads up!

I mean that's just the definition of a power couple. So cool that they can collaborate and bring different perspectives and make something truly special.

The Last Starfighter is elite! Yeah, we digest movies and shows so often now it's easy to forget how much goes into them.

One of the reasons I like this channel is so much is because of J&K recognizing the shots and sets and decorations and not just reacting to the storyline - very much more of a full experience that I relate to. Originally airing on December 5, 2018, 'We're Going to the Catskills!' is Episode 4 of Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 12th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.4, placing it as the #7 ranked episode of this season and #6 out of all the episodes shown so far.

+ Why do Jews go to Catskills? In the early 1900s, when Jews and other minorities were banned from upscale hotels and beaches around New York City, the Catskills offered refuge. Every summer, families fled their cramped apartments for the mountains. + The resort where Mrs Maisel was filmed (Scotts Family Resort) opened in 1869. It was sold / closed down in 2020, and the buildings have fallen into disrepair. If and when a redevelopment eventually takes place, I imagine they might need to bulldoze everything, which would be a shame. (There are quite a few other resorts still going strong from what I can tell). https://www.visitthecatskills.com/compass/vacation-like-marvelous-mrs-maisel https://wnbf.com/scotts-family-resort-concern-oquaga-lake/

Well as a former film student I geek out about this stuff all the time lol. I'm sure people in my life are tired of me talking about all the technical work that goes into making a movie, i'm so glad you appreciate it though!!

1. That's amazing that they could have that and it looks like an absolute blast. 2. Out of all the terrible things that we associate with 2020 that's gotta be one of them, all the businesses that just aren't around anymore. I hope it comes back in full swing!
