Mermaid Day

I'm not a big fan of award shows either, although I would love to see Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) win the Emmy this year for best supporting actor. Brett Goldstein is up for it as well.

Mermaid Day

As far as show recommendations, I'm gonna suggest "Community" it's a half hour sitcom starring Chevy Chase, Joel McHale, Donald Glover, and Ken Jeong. Lots of guest stars too.

I find that open relationships are much more common in gay couples (speaking as a gay man) so Patrick and David being open to a threesome with Jake wasn't all that surprising to me. Even if they didn't go through with it I think it's good that they were open to talking about it and I also appreciate that the show didn't shy away from Patrick and David having a sex life. Shows often will depict gay characters but completly ignore that aspect of their lives (although it's been getting better in that regard in the past couple of years). As for the success of Schitt's Creek the year they swept the Emmys, I think it cannot be overstated how much the show blew up once it got on Netflix. In the last two seasons it really became the comfort show for a lot of people so I'm sure it had a big impact versus an established show like Mrs. Maisel. Sure Schitt's Creek won for it's last season but really the show had just started being mainstream. As for recommendations to replace Schitt's Creek, I believe someone mentionned it before but Derry Girls is fantastic and pretty short (3 seasons of 6 episodes). If not that, my personal favorite comedy from the past few years: The Other Two. It's such an accurate satire of the entertainement industry about two siblings who have been trying to make it in Hollywood for a long time having to deal with the sudden success of their little brother (think like Justin Bieber at his beginning). Plus it's got Molly Shannon and who doesn't love Molly Shannon.

I do love Molly Shannon. I like that they don't shy away from their sex life either. It makes the show feel more realistic and not like a full blown sitcom.

Gayle Dick

Patriot (like Barry crossed with The Americans), Severance.

Another good option to replace Schitt's Creek is The Bear. Much more serious I think, but still a heartfelt show with funny parts, family, overcoming adversities etc :)

My own impression (chiming in as another gay man) has always been that neither David nor Patrick would ever have gone through with the "...or whatever" part of the evening. They were intrigued and flattered by Jake's attention (Patrick maybe especially so, as we don't see him receive a lot of that kind of flirtation), they were ready to have the drink and maybe play "chicken" with the idea a bit, for the pleasurable buzz of flattery Jake provides... but as soon as it threatened to get real, they would be out of there -- as indeed we saw them do, the moment it was clear what sort of soirée this was set up to be.

I love The Other Two too, very much, and it's different from any other series. You'd be the only ones reacting to it too, as far as I know. (I only wonder whether enough people have watched it to sustain the numbers you want.)

I think this really depends on your own comfort levels either straight or gay, some couples like to be adventurous and spice it up. We just didn't see them as the type to try it. They can both be a little jealous sometimes. It was a really funny bit though.

I'd love you to watch Psych, it is so good too ! Dulé Hill, and a bunch of others great actors and it's a lot of fun ! ...but it's 8 seasons and 3 movies. But yeah, Derry Girls, Community. The first one isn't very long indeed but it's hilarious and warm.
