Everything Is Bellmore

Jeff

As you probably now know, Brian Tarantina died of an accidental drug overdose before filming began on the fourth season. This was such a moving and funny episode. Alex Boorstein (Susie) was nominated again for an Emmy this season, but didn't win. She had already won twice for seasons one and two. If you want to see something else to make you cry (Joe), watch her acceptance speech at the 71st Emmy Awards. I actually enjoyed season 4, and I really liked season 5, even though it's a bit different than previous seasons (don't worry; no spoilers!). I'm always impressed by originality and creativity, and "Mrs. Maisel" gives us that up until the very end.

Weird Magic

Brian Tarantina passed away 11/2/19, about 1 month before Season 3 aired. So we as an audience knew that he was gone during all of his performances in Season 3. Very impressed by your reactions and emotional connection to this episode not knowing the actor was gone yet, for us that did know it probably was even doubly emotional. They (showrunners) did it so well, and Alex Borstein CRUSHED that memorial scene (and others this episode). Personally, I agree with both of you that this one is horribly underrated on IMDB. 10 out of 10 for me. Most of the bad reviews deal with the excessive profanity that fits 2022 more than it does 1960 (which is probably true, but this is a drama, not a documentary IMO). My only complaint is the strip club setting...it feels odd with a comic there, but I'll defer to others that have more burlesque experience than I :) Originally airing on February 25, 2022, 'Everything Is Bellmore' is Episode 3 of Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 29th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.3, placing it as the #3 ranked episode of this season and #17 out of all the episodes shown so far.

This is a great episode! Alex is just fantastic in it. Like someone said, she was nominated for this one but lost to Sheryl Lee Ralph. This ep was also their writing submission, but they weren't nominated. The Emmys/writing branch voters funnily enough dropped the show in writing after it won for season one and it never got back into the category. It's my second favorite of the season and really the only other ep this season that I come back to sometimes along with the finale. I love the Lenny scene too. It's cute to see how he helps her and I also think it does a great job of showing a vibe shift after Miami. They're a bit more flirty with each other. Luke Kirby actually became a series regular for this season, so you guys will see him pop up a bit more frequently. Since this ep was their submission you can find the script online and it's a whopping 84 pages long. Susie and Lenny's speeches are crazy lol. Also with your comments about Midge afterward, I'm interested to see how you guys feel about the next two eps specifically!

Spooky, I saw a Tupperware vehicle (logo on the doors) today, so I guess there's some kind of sales activity still going on!

Brian Tarantina, fun fact, also began on Broadway having starred in the original production of Biloxi Blues with Matthew Broderick. The theater they see the show in is supposed to be the Mark Hellinger which premiered My Fair Lady back in the day; however, today it is now the Times Square Church which you can actually attend weekly. Buuuuut the show didn’t film there, it was shot in the absolutely gorgeous Kings Theater in Brooklyn. Another fun Broadway cameo in this episode which I just realized upon watching along with you, JJ, the guy behind the bar at the Gaslight is Damon Daunno, most recently played Curly in the Oklahoma revival which he killed in (no pun intended). I loved his performance so much I saw it three times.

Yeah I'm not a strip club guy so I have no idea the comedy situation, however I don't doubt in the 60s that was very common. Plus I love how each season shows us new locations and it really helps flesh out the world of the show. Everything is so lived in. I love it.

We'll always take more Lenny. Love that he's a regular now. 84 pages is pretty crazy for a tv script LMAO

Brian Tarantina and Alex Borstein were both part of Gilmore Girls in the very early 2000s, and as a Palladino fan it was so nice almost twenty years later to get as thoroughly attached to them as the Palladinos clearly were.
