[All Patrons]Ixalan Encounter #001 Azcanta the Sunken Ruin

Ixalan is a world of exploration and treasure, marked by ancient sites waiting to be explored by intrepid heroes.

The center of the world is the great continent known as Ixalan, which has given its name to the plane as a whole. A tropical land covered in lush rain forests, soaring mountains, lofty plains, and winding rivers, Ixalan is shaped like a large crescent enfolding a vast inner sea. Its history has been shaped by the interaction between the Sun Empire and the River Heralds. Both peoples lived in balance while the Sun Empire maintained its stewardship of the Immortal Sun. But that balance was upset when the emperor abused the artifact’s power. Now the Sun Empire has been pushed to the coastal lands of Ixalan, while the River Heralds dominate the interior.

If you are running the War of Spark campaign like I am, Ixalan is quite a vital plane. Here your player will confront Azor, the parun of the Azorius Senate, and discover the ultimate secret of the immortal sun. If you only doing a one-shot, Ixalan could also be a nice place for some pirate-style adventure.

At the time, the Search for Azcanta card is so popular. Almost every deck uses it as long as they splash Blue. Azcanta, now called the Sunken Ruin, was a thriving population center until a prolonged conflict with the River Heralds caused it to sink into the waters of the Inner Sea. Its buildings are still largely intact far beneath the waves, and some pirates now seek the city’s treasures.

The inspiration for this map is from the Solasta. The game really utilized the height cue and provided enough jump puzzles. You can also lure your player into the water and add some surprises for them.

This map looks great for an Undercity / Simic type combat as well in Ravnica! Love it!
