I’ve been meaning to touch base. For starters, I won’t be at Texas Furry Siesta as planned. I made the decision not to go this past week, and I’ve already let the con know so they can reassign my dealer’s den space. The reason for this is a bit layered, but in short, I’m kind of worn down right now. While I could have done the con, Texas is a long way from Florida, and I was going to have to do the drive alone. Driving to the con alone wasn’t my initial plan when I signed up, but that’s how it worked out.

It stinks not to do a con I was already signed up to vend at, but I came to the conclusion that doing Texas Furry Siesta by myself was going to leave me really exhausted, and twelve plus hours of driving on my own plus vending for three days straight is a bit much for me by myself. Normally I’ve done trips to Dallas with the fiancé, but he couldn’t swing this with me. Anthrocon though is still in the works, and I will be driving to that. However, I’ll be splitting the driving with my fiancé, and we can knock that trip out together.

In general, the last few months, I’ve been feeling pretty beat, which is another reason I didn’t want to push myself to the limit. I’ve got a backlog of things to deal with at my day job, and I’ve got a backlog of writing things to deal with. All told, it’s a lot. I have decided to keep the vacation days I planned for my trip to Texas to help me address some of that. I’ve got a couple things I need to get off my plate.

Creators can burn out and disappear, but I refuse to let that happen to me. Avoiding that requires me to be smart and know when I’m overdoing it. As part of that, I’ve pushed back my next poetry chapbook to an August release, so I don’t have to rush the final stages of production. Rites of Hope will be released at Megaplex Also, the cover by Kippycube is quite stunning, so I can’t wait to get the book out.
