“Are you sure you don’t want any help?” Ajax asked, he felt incredibly bad about the current situation yet at the same time he couldn’t deny that he only offered the help as a common courtesy, he never expected them to take him up on it.

“You have yet to finish healing your own leg and recover your own Mana after that Duke Hearthbound.” The healer bowed deeply. “The complex nature of this next part is something that would be better done by yourself anyway.”

Ajax couldn’t argue that point. The healers had helped Ajax heal his leg all the way to the ankle yet the complex joint was an issue to make without a soul blueprint to help one progress. The reason for removing Ajax from the healing carriage however had more to do with the intimidating dragon all but hovering over it.

“Why do you bother with those sticks?” Aurexion asked as Ajax exited the carriage on crutches.

“Because I don’t want to waste the limited Mana I have managed to regain.” Ajax answers as he makes his way towards his bond intending to climb onto his neck. “And I will not be hopping around like an idiot.” Ajax more than had the balance and Stats needed that the loss of one leg would hardly hamper his mobility outside of combat situations or fast travel across long distances, hopping on one leg however would look no less stupid regardless of how well balanced and resilient he was.

Ajax had managed to recover almost half his Mana since the healers had been able to help regrow his leg from the knee to his ankle with only minor investment from him to pave the way for their healing spells. That they had focused so much on his injury despite there being other champions with much worse injuries spoke of how worried the army was about a follow up attack.

“Did you already tell them what happened?” Ajax asked as he jumped up on Aurexion’s neck where he continued to heal his leg.

“I answered some questions before I grew bored.” Aurexion answered. “I have something much more interesting to focus on now.”

Ajax had to agree with Aurexion that the hammer he picked up was much more interesting. It was far and away the best piece of equipment he had ever seen, certainly not the most complex since that still went to the gauntlet Khalysstra had gifted him, but the most powerful.

“You plan on unlocking Space Mana?” Ajax asked.

“Of course I do.” Aurexion snorted at the obvious question. “Space is the best element for a physically focused fighter. It provides the best defense as well as the best way for us to bypass the most annoying defenses.”

Ajax couldn’t argue that point. By itself Space magic wasn’t the best offensive tool for a mage, defensively was a completely different topic but offensively all they could do was help land physical attacks without making contact or displace the opponent. For a physical fighter however, bypassing annoying defences, teleporting close to their target or teleporting them in the path of a blow was enough to end a fight on the back of a single attack.

The next few days were quiet as the entire force of the Republic had gathered once more, the only obvious absences were the champions from Brightstone that had clearly returned to their homeland. The entire army took this as an opportunity to lick its wounds, all champions were back on their feet following the two battles that took place but most of them weren’t yet back to full strength.

“How are you feeling?” Ajax asked Aranor as he approached the old elf.

“Weak.” Ajax could feel the displeasure in Aranor’s response at the state of his own body.

Aranor pushed his Mana channels too far in the last battle, the effects of the potion he took as well as the last spell he cast had done lasting damage to his Mana channels, the damage wasn’t irreversible but it would be at least a century before they would naturally heal, time the elf simply didn’t have.

“Why not return?” Ajax asked.

“Because Sylvanthal needs me here more than they need me back home.” Aranor answered. Unlike most other champions Aranor didn’t have a family to return to, he had dedicated himself to learning magic and serving the royal family. As much as he knew that King Sylvian and Arianwyn would like for him to return and live out his last few years teaching magic and being a bodyguard he was more valuable here as the eyes and ears of his kingdom, his short remaining lifespan meaning they weren’t risking much.

Ajax knew not to push that point further so instead he swapped the topic. “Why haven’t they attacked yet?”

It had been a few days and while Ajax knew the beastkin had suffered heavier losses, the fact that their losses were more permanent in the form of dead champions instead of injured ones it should mean that their remaining forces would be back on their feet faster.

“Something big is happening.” the prince said as he joined the two of them and heard the last questions asked. “The beastkin finally opened a direct bargain with my father looking to trade the squads they captured for our prisoner.”

The importance of keeping a hold of their prisoner had dropped significantly for Gryndor. The final battle alone had proven Ajax’s strength more than any words from the prisoner they had could, getting almost two full squads back was worth more than keeping a single champion prisoner.

“What could they be after?” Ajax wasn’t sure why the beastkin would give them time to recover. “Highmountain and the beastkin would never trust each other, the longer this war the lower the chances their plan works out.”

Everyone agreed with Ajax’s words. Even if the beastkin were to somehow conquer the Republic, they most likely wouldn’t be able to keep it as Sylvanthal or even Gryndor could potentially take it from them. With the political connections the two had with each other it was even possible they would work together and share the territory.

“They want a ceasefire.” Shadow appeared next to them, his sudden entrance put more than a few of them on edge as none of them had sensed the assassin before he wanted them to. “After all this death they want to just walk away.”

“They’re giving up?” Ajax was surprised, considering how much they invested and how sure of their victory they had been up to now.

“They realized they wouldn’t be able to hold our dungeons even if they manage to win the war.” Shadow answered. “Brighstone surrendered to Highmountain, the takeover is still fragile and unlike the beastkin coupe the royal family are now a ducal family.”

“Did they say how long?” Aranor asked.

“They haven’t reached out to the council yet.” Shadow reveals.

“Five years, with a binding contract.” The answer surprisingly came from the prince.

“They want us to kill each other and solve their problems for them.” Aranor can only laugh with suppressed fury as his enemies move all but seals his fate, in a swift move it removes him from the battle in a way he has no way to answer.

“They believe they’ll be able to match Ajax and me in five years?” Coming from anyone other than Aurexion or Ajax the question might sound overconfident but everyone knows it's anything but.

“There will most likely be a loose alliance between Highmountain and the beastkin where they will try and covertly duplicate the dungeon sharing the rest of us have been starting between the two of them.” The prince points out. “They are hoping that our own exchanges will break down as the Empire and Deepwood might try to mimic their actions and unify their races, leaving the Republic alone and facing threats on all sides.”

“Well most sides.” Aranor points out. “Gryndor lost only one champion in this war and nobody believes the Empire can conquer you with Ajax and Aurexion returning home. They probably expect that you will take advantage of all the rest of the wars to absorb the Empire instead.”

“So it's over just like that?” Ajax asks. “The war will just end?”

“I wouldn’t call this an end.” Shadow says. “They’ll offer to put it on hold for a few years and the Republic can’t afford not to accept. We lost too many champions and our people need time to rebuild. Especially with Highmountain waiting in the wings in case we try to end the war now and finish off the beastkin.”

A five year ceasefire might as well have been a peace treaty back on Earth, but here with the lifespan of nobility and rulers stalemates or brief ceasefire lasting five years was not odd. Selfish as it was this was a particularly bad outcome for Ajax, with his leveling speed five years could mean at least fifteen levels and this would mean a lot of dungeon in Brightstone, Highmountain and all of the dungeons the beastkin had access to that he wouldn’t be able to delve yet under the guise of reparations. It was an outcome he hadn’t expected.

With Shadow and Aranor moving to report the updates they received to their own nations, the prince put up a privacy barrier around Ajax and Aurexion. “My father and brother also want you and Aurexion to be part of the negotiations. He is after all your prisoner.”

TFTC! 🔨🪓🐉 “The complex nature of this next part is something that would be better done by yourself anyway.” Translation: You’re a PATIENT. Go back to bed (army cot) and be…Patient! 🙄🙄 “Because I don’t want to waste the limited Mana I have managed to regain.” Yeah. This is not a good place to be low on mana. 😱😱 despite there being other champions with much worse injuries spoke of how worried the army was about a follow up attack. Healers, naturally, have an aversion to risking their fragile selves. 😛😛 but the most powerful. Gryndor Offical: But Duke Hearthbound! 😭 Ajax: Go away, or we’re going to use you to test this hammer. This is my BOND’S lawfully won Battle Loot, and you bureaucrats can kiss my a$$! 😡🤬 For a physical fighter however, bypassing annoying defences, teleporting close to their target or teleporting them in the path of a blow was enough to end a fight on the back of a single attack. Aurexion: Precious! 🤩🤩 Ajax: Not you too! 🙄🙄😂🤣😂🤣 the damage wasn’t irreversible but it would be at least a century before they would naturally heal, time the elf simply didn’t have. True, particularly since Aranor is obviously a Crown Loyalist, and the situation is not good back home. 😱😱 he was more valuable here as the eyes and ears of his kingdom, his short remaining lifespan meaning they weren’t risking much. And to be blunt, the most important thing for Slyvanthal is to have someone trustworthy to observe the new Pinnacles, Ajax and Aurexion. 😳😳 “The beastkin finally opened a direct bargain with my father looking to trade the squads they captured for our prisoner.” WHICH ONE! 😳😳😱😱😵😵 “Highmountain and the beastkin would never trust each other, the longer this war the lower the chances their plan works out.” Highmountain and the United Beastkin are like Hitler and Stalin…WHEN, not IF they’re going to betray each other. 🙄🙄😈😈 With the political connections the two had with each other it was even possible they would work together and share the territory. Of course I called it. 😇😇 “They want a ceasefire.” Shadow appeared next to them What the ACTUAL FU€K?!?!?! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 “Brighstone surrendered to Highmountain, the takeover is still fragile and unlike the beastkin coupe the royal family are now a ducal family.” So Highmountain took advantage of the war to stage the Coup they’ve been planning for a while?! And before anyone says something silly about “Beware the Empire!” They’ve already committed financially to expanding into the Wild Lands. 🙄🙄 Aranor can only laugh with suppressed fury as his enemies move all but seals his fate, in a swift move it removes him from the battle in a way he has no way to answer. I see! Not just Aranor, but Shadow is probably going to die, at least be far less effective as his remaining lifespan reduces his Stats! But thankfully there’s new Peacekeepers! Ajax and Aurexion! 😳😳😈😈 “There will most likely be a loose alliance between Highmountain and the beastkin where they will try and covertly duplicate the dungeon sharing the rest of us have been starting between the two of them.” Sure…if they have 25 years. 😂🤣😂🤣 “They are hoping that our own exchanges will break down as the Empire and Deepwood might try to mimic their actions and unify their races, leaving the Republic alone and facing threats on all sides.” Unfortunately, they don’t know the Wildcard. Ajax has a MYTHICAL skill. Five years is enough time to get enough levels in it so he can chop up the Beastkin Champions in…the Continuation War. (Historical Geek joke. Look it up. 🤓🤓) They probably expect that you will take advantage of all the rest of the wars to absorb the Empire instead.” And absorbing the Empire will take more than five years…nah. Gryndor knows the Empire is doomed, so they’re not going to worry about it. 😈😈 Especially with Highmountain waiting in the wings in case we try to end the war now and finish off the beastkin.” But that’s a Paper Tiger…Highmountain needs its Champions to complete the conquest of Brightstone. 🙄🙄 “My father and brother also want you and Aurexion to be part of the negotiations. He is after all your prisoner.” This is NOT going to go well. 😈😈😈. More, please! 😍😍🤩🤩🥰🥰

Arrogant Savant

There has to be something they are arrogantly relying on. Also what's with the surprisingly realistic proposal that us likely a backstab attempt in some way? We are supposed to get escalating odds to the point of stupidity!

Jordan Adams

I wonder who the negotiators will be more scared of between Ajax and Aurexion

Jlan

They are likely relying on the assumption that Ajax is only so strong due to the dungeon sharing and his bond. They most likely believe that with them having a combined four kingdoms worth of dungeons ,assuming the deal with brightstone works, they will be able to train their army enough to more than match the republic and Ajax.

Gigition

My guess is that ajax will negotiate to get some dungeons in the beastkin lands. I don’t get how brightstone surrounded? There war couldn’t have lasted more than a week. They could just ask ajax to join them against highmountain and all they would need to give are dungeon delves. Either highmountain has some crazy secret weapon on par with ajax or brightstone is way weaker than the other kingdoms.

Arrogant Savant

From everything we've seen humanoids using every dungeon in their lands is the minimum needed to have a presence as an ascended race. The race to have everyone exchange dungeons is still helping Ajax's cause to act as the bulwark for humanoids, if the flesh behind the shield is decently durable he has more room to act as the spear for humanoids aswell.

Some Guy

Giving Ajax 5 years to further train his skills seems like a very dumb idea. Also I wonder if his bond with Aurexion will help Ajax learn some skills that typically only dragons get? Kind of like how Tom received night vision thanks to his bond with fluffy

Arrogant Savant

Ajax did directly receive [Debilitating Roar] which seems to be a skill often found used by strong beasts so I wouldn't be surprised if more dragon-exclusive skills will come later as their bond develops. It took some time before Tom really developed skills related to fluffy.

userunfriendly

Sometimes, even Imbeciles get it right. This war has exceeded everyone’s expectations on casualties among the Champions, and the Beastkin and Highmountain have just managed to screw themselves…in 5 years, Aurexion will get Space and likely Void, and Ajax will have leveled both his pseudo-Mythical and Mythical skill to useful levels. Next war, they’re going to be carved up. 😈😈

userunfriendly

And while the alliance (HA!) between Highmountain and Beastkin is COMPLETELY unnatural, and has no possibility of working, an Alliance between Gryndor, Slyvanthal and the exiled government of Brightstone is completely possible. 😈😈

Eddie

Ajax and Shadow should assassinate the Beastkin King and Crown Prince. They started this war, they shouldn’t get out of it still in power. Where is the downside?

userunfriendly

Highmountain has obviously been planning this for decades. Implanting agents, infiltrating the military…

Neal Cooper

My guess is they are hoping for assistance from one of the ascended races. Didn't the dragon say there likely was some tie to them at work when he told Ajax to say his new ability was legendary.

Arrogant Savant

The Alliance does feel like the equivalent of WW2 Germany and Japan working together. It is also funny how Ajax will experience a concerted effort to disect and counter his skills & habits in a more "safe" environment compared to facing an Ascended race.

Arrogant Savant

Hoping for assistance from an ascended race feels like the equivalent of summoning a demon king to defeat their enemies

Ulysses Fedtke

This seems like a desperate attempt to get rid off Ajax

Bunny

Tftc. Well I do hope this is not the end of the war. But we got to see later.

Eddie

The ability/knowledge to destroy dungeons is probably too dangerous of an ability to let the other kingdoms know he possesses. That’s the kind of thing that could trigger a preventive war against their kingdom. I don’t think killing the leaders of the country you are already in a defensive war against could be seen as the kind of balance breaking thing that would cause other countries to gang up on you that an intentional dungeon break or the destruction of a dungeon would cause.

Corwin

Actually this shows more Napoleon and WWII mentality. While High Mountain and the Beastkin Kingdoms are racists. They aren't completely stupid. The five year ceasefire gives them time to build counters to both Ajax and Aurexion. As well build up spies and push for defectors from the Republic, Slyvanthal, and Gryndor. As well as build up various alliances in Deep Wood and the Empire. It also allows them to push for a longer peace if they can find the right leverage in other kingdoms. Only Gryndor has had less champion level casualties. Which is good and bad. Since it is a weak point for the Beastkin and High Mountain to exploit.

Corwin

Brightstone took the biggest hits at the champion and elite level. As well as the fact that they were taken over by dwarves...the share history with High Mountain as well as other nobles being sympathetic (similarity to Gryndor and the Empire). Would allow for a quick take over if the right teams and champions were targeted. Especially those who would be against the take over.

Sloth

Ajax could also just avoid leveling for the next 5 years. It’s not as if it would affect his lifespan all that much. Though letting their enemies grow while remaining his current strength would probably not be the smartest idea I suppose. Better idea, he could sneak into all their dungeons. He could do it maybe with shadow elemental avatar or he could figure out space mana.

Corwin

Thanks. It will be fun to see how the Beastkin consolidate their spoils and try to save the prisoners they have lost to the others. On a separate note how far away is Brightstone from Ajaxs dukedom?

Corwin

Actually Hitler and Stalin is a bad comparison. It's more like Japan and Germany. Both countries considered themselves to be the master race and looked at extermination of the lessers... I don't think Aranor and Shadow are going to die. Though I can see them both moving to mentor roles to their new protégés. Hopefully for Shadow its Tom and Fluffy...lol because Shadow Cat and Tom will be able to mimic Shadows ability to fight soon with those cherries 😂😂😂 not sure where Aranor will find his protégé but hey we have one of them for sure. The Empire has other issues the invasion of Ajax and his water fleet. The mountains will have to deal with the Air Force

Quyan640

Besides dungeon delves, idk what Ajax could ask for in exchange for letting this cease-fire happen. Territory? He’s the duke has the least land, right?

userunfriendly

I’m sorry, but I think my simile is better. People forget that Nazi Germany and the USSR actually had a Non Aggression Pact during the early part of WW2. In fact, they carved up Poland, BOTH Nazi Germany and the USSR invading Poland, each taking half. (kinda makes you roll your eyes when Russians speak of the “Great Patriotic War”)🙄🙄 i hope you’re right, Aranor and Shadow simply having diminished stats due to old age. And Aranor could well do to accept Lexi and Arianwyn as disciples. 😈😈 I’m REALLY looking forward to the reactions to Ajax’s harbor city…and the faces of all the nobles monopolizing the overland traffic realizing he’s just stolen all their profits…😈😈

Tyrant615

Highmountain may have gained Brightstone's dungeons and land but I doubt they will gain the loyalty of Brightstone's people. Dwarves in fantasy tend to hold honor as a core principleof their society. this makes me think the people of Brightstone will see Highmountain's take over as illegitimate. We may be seeing a situation like what happened in France during the Nazi occupation. Most likely we will see the forming of resistance cells and what remains of the Brightstone army seeking refuge in the Republic.

Blackking👑

5 year break to war Im guessing that Ajax will be in the kingdom for the next 5 years at least cant have him leaving before the war talk is over he is to much of an deterrent

Blackking👑

He will probably be teaching at the academy for the next arc. Im going to guess and say that the kingdom is probably going to try and get as many people as possible 150 floor clears

userunfriendly

Undoubtedly they’re counting on a “Cunning Plan” to checkmate their enemies. But without the (Expired!) magical contracts preventing spies from reporting on the Beastkin, they’re going to make mistakes. 😈😈

Aizen Weeks

The problem is everyone assumes how Ajax got so strong based on their own understanding. 5 years may let them shore up their forces. However Ajax has 5 years to assimilate and level his new skills, and farm a full custom gear set from some dungeons. Gryndor being years ahead with the point holding strategy, they can produce a mass of elites that could become champions in a century

saynt

i dont know he might want go to back into the wilds for the dungeons

Nick

Feel like some of those champions could clear more dungeon levels with Ajax and become ascended as well… especially Aranor since he is so old. Or is he too high a level for him to possibly do it?

Blackking👑

Would be dangerous for the kingdom he is a lot of their safety net

Arrogant Savant

It is noteworthy that most champions can barely jump levels in the dungeon so there's selection of floors would only be within the 5-10 level range of their current level.

Dave

How messy, good stuff

Corwin

The problem is levels. Ajax got his boosts while he was young. With Aranor he would have to make those clears while he is older and the jumps will be harder. With the weaker elites and champions it would be possible to make them stronger. Especially with the Floor boss kills. The older and higher levels would require more access to dungeons than is most likely possible to get the required boosts from floor clears

Corwin

Books for teaching certain skills, skilled people to teach certain skills, certain beasts to create mounts for his people, raw materials and ingredients, land would work depending on how close it is to his territory to begin with.

Corwin

It is interesting to note that some French people did work with the Nazis. Even with occupation of France for years.

Corwin

The USSR also switched sides against Germany. And High Mountain is not giving up any land of Brightshore to the Beastkin kingdom. Which is why I believe Japan and Germany is better. The end of the next war will be more similar to how Japan and Germany fell. Aranor I can't see taking on Lexi...Tom and Fluffy makes sense since the Republic would be more inclined to extend Tom a Noble house there to bring Ajax closer in line with them. As well as allowing the Republic to join the Dungeon sharing between Slyvanthal and Gryndor. Not as much fun as a Zeppelin will be to see lol. While flying mounts are rare. An enchanted flying boat thats armed and capable of hovering at heights that make spells at ground level ineffective will be hilarious to watch. Especially since it will have been enchanted and capable of flight mechanically. So mana deserts aren't a big deal lol Ajax's Navy is going to make money and giving the Empire heart burn over if Ajax wants to attack or not

Nick

Was thinking the same thing., but then Ajax couldn’t get those bonuses afterwards forever 😂 He def needs to plan out which dungeons he needs to go to with aurexion for maximum stat points while staying as low as possible in level so that when he goes back to them in 5 years, he will still get the bonuses. Or never,ind.. he can already clear lvl 170, so he just needs to get all the dwarves and beast kin’s dungeons now. Can’t wait to see what bonus he will get for clearing 500 floors or something. The reaper actually ascended it seemed like, so it must be “how humans grow stronger.” He needs to do the boat thing for more discoveries as well.

userunfriendly

True…Highmountain hasn’t betrayed the Beastkin, YET. And given the geographical separation between Highmountain and the Beastkin (the Republic, and formerly Brightstone) the similarity to Nazi Germanyband the Empire of Japan does make sense. Ajax’s navy is going to give EVERYONE a heartburn. All the nobles in Gryndor and the Empire invested in the overland trade will hate Hearthbound. The fact that you can move goods cheaply AND quickly, OR cheaply and in bulk, (depending on the ship type of the carrier) means he can monopolize the trade. And that’s another reason why the Empire is unlikely to attack Gryndor. Trading partners make too much money. Ajax seems content waiting out the Empire’s inevitable fall. Being a Pinnacle means that NOBODY is going to screw with Hearthbound, particularly as the Empure and Hearthbound will be raking in enormous profits. 🤑🤑

userunfriendly

Don’t forget that trick he discovered with the fire elemental and monster cores…getting the Dragons (via Aurexion’s auntie 😂) to facilitate trade for really powerfully boosted cores…could get Phoenix and Dragon treasures (weapons!) made available to Gryndor and her allies. The next war is going to be short and sweet. 😈

Aizen Weeks

I had not considered that. Since Gryndor has his gloves now, I wonder if they incorporate the enchantment method into the Prince's new armor they took from the Republic capital dungeon?

userunfriendly

True. And a LOT of them were not treated well after the War. What we can expect to see is a mass migration of Beastkin, human, elven AND DWARVEN citizens seeking refuge in the Republic. Unless Highmountain is willing to close its borders…which they might not be able to do, due to losing Champions… Unless Highmountain is willing to slaughter the fleeing Brightstone citizens, the Republic is about to get a massive influx of citizens. Which is what the Republic actually is…a buffer state. But a slaughter of the refugees will make Highmountain a rogue state…nobody will trust them for allies, and they’ll get invaded anytime they’re weak…because EVERYONE hates them. 😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬

Aizen Weeks

Maybe they think if they push the Republic too hard Shadow goes to the Beastkin Capitol and Ajax to HighMountian for a double dungeon break then nobody is happy. Wouldn't happen but fear make people think crazy stuff.

Aizen Weeks

Beastkin need the ceasefire cause they know if they get weaker that HighMountain will Operation Barbosa them

Scott

I think its a feint, at the meeting they will try to shut him down and kill him

Corwin

Ajax would need more stealth training before him and Shadow could make a double dungeon break. Aurexion would need even more training in stealth. Lol fear would make high mountain and the beastkin kingdom wary though. Dungeon breaks and assassination will have them more than willing to give a longer peace treaty than real concessions. The beastkin are more wary of the Ajax than the Republic who they are at war with. And the Republic needs more time to rebuild than anything else

userunfriendly

Um…no. Due to the geographical layout, and the Republic on the center, the Beastkin could invade the combined Dwarf kingdoms, had they conquered the Republic. Not anymore though. 🙄🙄

userunfriendly

And don’t forget that Spirit Fire dagger rune designs were submitted to Manashaper. 😈😈

userunfriendly

3-4 Kingdoms worth. He’s next to the Empire, furthest from Gryndor’s border with the Republic. Brightstone is next to the Republic, then Highmountain. 😳😳

Corwin

So he needs a river to take to Brightshore or one Dragon Express

Corwin

Yes. But with the shipping trade it will allow Gryndor to swap dungeon slots with the Empire covertly as well. Making the Empire stronger than High Mountain and the Beastkin after this is over. As well as tying them closer together

Corwin

The Beastkin need a ceasefire to revamp and recalculate. Ajax tipped the board over and they were not expecting Gryndor, Slyvanth, and Brightshore to come to the Republic Aide. Now they need a reset since they got out of the situation with a deal with High Mountain which wasn't in their favor too much. The Republic needs a ceasefire to also restructure.

userunfriendly

Precisely. We’re in agreement that the Empire is very unlikely to invade Gryndor. What is likely is the King of Gryndor will THINK about putting pressure on Judy to marry the Imperial Prince. 🤬🤬🤬. Which Ajax will not stand for, so in reality, the King will follow the hoary military adage of “Never give an order you KNOW won’t be obeyed.” And the Crown Prince and the King will spend the rest of the night drinking Hearthbound Honey Mead, and cursing Ajax. 🙄🙄

Corwin

I don't think Gryndor will push for Judy to marry in the Empire families. While I can see Tom going to the Republic and learning from Shadow and maybe starting a noble family there. I can't see Judy going there. Maybe to Slyvanth...This way he can tie the Mutual Defense Pact through Hearthbound. The Empire will want to tie Ajax to them. But they will have to look at Jake, one of Ajax's eventual children, or an unknown younger sibling

userunfriendly

Probably not. That’s why I worded the previous post to say that the Crown Prince and King Gryndor will WANT to pressure Ajax into letting Judy marry into the Imperial family, then dismiss the idea. Just talking to Xavier would let them know Ajax would refuse. Unilaterally. Hearthbound is far too independent, and while it’s obvious they’re loyalists, they’re not exactly respectful to the nobility. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Someone mentioned this might be a ploy to ambush Aranor, Eldest Prince, Ajax and Aurexion at the negotiations. That’s looking more and more likely…given the huge political mess the ceasefire would cause. 🙄🙄

Corwin

Ambushing to get any of them would be unlikely. The Beastkin and High Mountain don't have the champions to spare for such a maneuver. High Mountain needs it's Champions to hold Brightshore. And the Beastkin don't have the numbers to pull it off alone. I can see the Beastkin trying to get one of their agents next to Jake and pull him closer to them. But that's a longer play than straight up murder

userunfriendly

That’s assuming that BOTH the Lion King (possible) or the High General (IMPOSSIBLE!!!) slept through the first day of Tactics and Strategy class at Beastkin Military Academy… “The most important preparation for battle is a RESERVE!” When both sides are near parity in terms of force, Battles are almost always won by the side holding the Reserve up to the last minute, and using it. Like at a Ceasefire Conference, if the Beastkin Reserve are assassins, as was implied in that earlier chapter, this might not go well. 🤔🤔

Nick

Well, I just hope the eldest prince, whom shall never be named, even when a pet has one, ascends.

Corwin

The king and prince should advocate the killing of Ajax. But the high general will also explain that Aurexion isn't dead in the scenario than its suicide with extra steps, and leaving their own side vulnerable for invasion. Plus assassins aren't the best since Ajax should have high poison resistant since they have sent a few assassins already same with Deepwood. Even with Ajax death Gryndor has more troops, same with Slyvanth. They will want Aranor and Ajax dead. But the Beastkin aren't going to want to take on either kingdoms when they lost 20 champions already.

Corwin

The eldest prince might be on the upper limit of what someone could advance. But that will definitely add complications to the Royal family

userunfriendly

That’s the intelligent response. However, starting wars are not exactly an intelligent thing to do, unless you’ve assembled an overwhelming force, so the Beastkin high command are NOT going to win on Jeopardy. 🙄🙄 We’ll see tomorrow. 😛😛

Corwin

They had the Republic. The Republic just had the Slyvanth and Gryndor alliance by the balls since there was little for the Beastkin Kingdom would allow them to travel through the Republic afterwards

userunfriendly

True…gah. All my instincts says to expect treachery from the Beastkin. 😡🥵

Corwin

Lol it could be a honeypot trap...after all a pretty woman has led many a man to his death

userunfriendly

Unless it’s at least a Legendary seduction skill, it will fail, as Ajax resisted Arianwyn. 😂🤣

CaptainGreenhat

this. ajax should covertly enter and close them
