I'm sure this is a critical turning point in Penny's story, and that's good for her. But I'm loving that crab in the final panel.

Penny is pretty incredible, I have to say. No matter how close to life or death she is, her brain and body stay under control. If she didn't have the brain flash to steal the pills she would be dead. While trying to eat the pills, with eyes full of water, she's still calm enough to look for the symbols for a transformation with gills specifically AND remind herself to take only one. And when she fails to get gills, she assesses her current transformation and uses it to free herself. And even after gnawing at the arms ropes, she still doesn't fall into the trap of trying to reach the surface hastily, removing the leg ropes first to not lose any of the precious seconds of oxygen left to her. That's SO MANY STEPS IN A ROW. This is beyond just being a good pickpocket or just being street start. I think 90% of people would die if they were in her spot, because they would get too desperate or too panicked at any of these points. For the thought, putting asides the steal (because that's hard mode already), I think in that situation, Becky could survive but I don't think Crow would. Super kudos to our rat girl.

Penny may be unable to control her ego but she clearly has her other emotions under control especially fear. For someone to keep that clear a head in THAT situation is amazing and terrifying. If she learns some risk assessment from this disaster she will be a force to be reckoned with.
