As I type this, three titles and three thumbnails are competing to see which is most attractive of clicks. Will it be the old-school beige text and simple title, or the fancy cinematic scenes with dynamic titles? Place your bets... An hour of me rambling more widely than usual, getting into marrying princesses, why waggon wheels are different sizes, French ideas of steering, the behaviour of elephants, historical reliability, model soldiers, and occasionally returning to the core topic of Roman battle-waggons.You may have noticed that I have uploaded a lot of short videos lately. Some are but 'shorts', and many of those are rehashes of old material or repeats of new low-duration videos. I have not disturbed you with all of these because I don't want to be a bother.

A point about Roman war-waggons

In 280 B.C. the Romans faced elephants in battle for the first time. In 279 B.C. they developed a new device for dealing with them, but what did it look like, and did it work? I was concerned that you would make fewer “long” videos.

Yesss... now to schedule an hour to watch it carefully. I would watch it while riding to work, but I feel a rasp in my throat and my older one was banned from nursery (temporarily) on account of a cold...

Should it be one 'g' or two? Yet to watch but looking forward.

You might already have noticed, but the video is lacking the R audio channel!

Great video as always! “Pyrrhic Victory,” I didn’t know what that truly meant until now! A siege (or, anti?) weapon I didn’t know anything about, love me some Lindybeige videos! The way they are described makes me imagine a sort of flimsier version of a carriage, like a carriage of sorts with slots in them to swing and stab their polearms through. I know nothing about any of this, but reasoning all makes sense to me. Haha the way Plutarch writes makes me think of how anyone of our age might write with exaggeration, trying to really drive a point home. As if saying, “No seriously, I mean *these guys…* damn, they were more than brave, they went nuts. Should have been there. I mean they really SMASHED those guys, didn’t care at all, just furious! It was nuts! And there were thousands, *thousands!* Like, TEN TIMES more than them, but they saved the day! It was epic!” It’s not so hard to believe he and others were writing that way. It seems to me like throwing a lot of caltrops woild be a good idea against elephants considering their capacity to panic. I imagine throwing a bunch of caltrops around an elephant, making it feel stabbing pain wherever it steps, would be a good way to make it quickly panic and rear up and flail. I’m from a family of all professors and your video lectures make me think you should be being paid as a professor, you’re a truly excellent teacher and explain history in ways that not only make sense, but are fascinating and fun! Thanks for yet another classic simply-Lloyd-talking-to-camera video.
