YOULL NEVER TRICK ME, BATMAN

Jason Brabander

So hard to say really. I'm actually good with both. Feel free to be silly, but stick to an overall general arc I suppose is what I'd say.

Sparky

Why not both when it serves your needs?

SuperNar3k

I want multi-part stories, I love being invested in an overarching story

Matthew Wills

I've been being myself for a while now and it hasn't solved all my problems, so I need to work a bit harder

Rickle

Both totally achievable, you're already putting out polished and refined nuggets of silly weirdness. More than anything the 4 panel just limits your story building outside really fine detail backgrounds that aren't really important or arcing, just funny b roll.

.

I think those aren't necessarily opposite, you can stick to an arc or character development but having the contents be as ridiculous as needed.

Matthew Wills

They're definitely not opposites, but there are 1000 small decisions that guide each episode towards one or the other

Georgie

I’ve picked one but to be honest I love what you do now and how you do it so if an option was there for ‘more of Matthew’s Swords greatness’ I’d have probably picked that. Enjoy the story arcs and the one-off fun lore pieces 😁

Wynne Fox

Yeah, I sturggle to vote on this because I would like a tagging system or something to track characters and story lines. But I also know that would take a lot of work. As it is, I often forget what is going on due to how much stuff jump around and end up liking the one offs the most because it's hard to appreciate the arcs. For a NSFW comic, Sexy Losers is probably the best at it. But like I said, it would take a crap ton of work that I don't expect out of anyone.

Matthew Wills

Where do you read Swords? swordscomic.com has a tagging system for everything under the "Archive" tag

blyatbrat

id have to agree with others saying that while i do want to stick to an overall story arc, you absolutely have created a special brand of unapologetically silly and weird that i could not enjoy this story without. 💕

CJ

needs to be more: Choplet!! 📈📈haha

Wynne Fox

Holy smokes, I never noticed it there. lol. Thank you.

Scale_Mum

Would it be possible to try one for a while and see if that works for you, then try the other for a while?

Isa

Some structure is nice but if it's about picking a side I'm on the weird one.

Marcus

I didn't start reading SWORDS because it was structured and well polished... I started reading it (and stuck with it and then read STARS as well) because it's unapologetically silly and funny. You're comics are clearly not for everyone, otherwise you'd be a major hit and rolling in dosh, but I think you risk losing your core fans if you change too much at this point.
