Hey everyone,Less than two weeks ago, Rockstar Games suddenly fired 31 of its UK employees (as well as three over in Toronto, Canada) for what it described as "gross misconduct". If they were in the office at the time, they were escorted out of it by security, with no opportunity to say goodbye to their colleagues or pick up anything from their desks. If they weren't in the office that morning, they received a phone call and had their access immediately revoked. To fire somebody in this way in the UK, let alone 31 somebodies, a company needs to hit a pretty serious threshold for what that misconduct must have entailed. So what happened then? What was the reason given?A few days later we'd hear Rockstar claim that its former employees were guilty of "distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum".If you're still left wondering what exactly that means, you're not the only one. So allow me to give you a little more context. Every single one of the employees fired here, all 34 of them, were also trying to unionize. And that public forum they're meant to have posted on? I'm told by the union that this was, in fact, a private Discord server being used to organise their efforts alongside the Independent Workers of Great Britain. And so what Rockstar may call "gross misconduct", these fired workers call something else entirely: union busting.I went to Edinburgh to meet the "Rockstar 31" for myself as they held a demonstration outside their old offices of Rockstar North.

The Rockstar Workers Fired Before They Could Finish GTA 6

We traveled to Edinburgh to meet the 31 employees fired from Rockstar Games ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar claims these firings were due to "gross misconduct", but the workers have another two words they prefer to use instead: "union busting". Looking forward to watching this. As an IWGB member myself, and working in the same building as some of those affected, this one hits close to home. Appreciate you guys being on the case right away!

You are the reason I joined Patreon and you keep proving thats was the right choice. Thanks for your work.

You're doing important work. The worrying thing is that Rockstar has almost definitely consulted their lawyers before making this egregious decision and they've determined that they can get away with it.
