If you watched our previous reporting on the Rockstar firings, you may remember that I said we'd be covering this story as it progresses, but that we'd likely not have much to share for a few months while the legal proceedings were still underway.Well, that turned out not to be the case.In the aftermath of our first video, a Rockstar source got in touch to share screenshots of what they believe to be some of the key messages sent by the fired employees on an invite-only union Discord server which ultimately contributed to their termination.Given all we've heard from Rockstar Games so far is that these union members had been discussing "confidential information in a public forum", this has already led to some limited speculation that these workers could have been sharing specific game details relating to Grand Theft Auto 6, in breach of their contracts. So far, from what we've seen, that does not appear to be the case.

The Messages Rockstar Saw Before Firing 34 Union Members

Following our previous report on the Rockstar union members fired for gross misconduct, another employee at the studio got in touch with People Make Games to share screenshots showing what they believe to be some of the key evidence used by the company to justify its decision. Rockstar has stated that these terminations happened because the workers had shared "confidential information on a public forum", but that's not how the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain describes it. Instead, it says this is actually about union busting, with Rockstar's management hoping to use whatever reasoning they can in order to destroy a union movement that was going from strength to strength. Firstly folks, want to thank you for putting a spotlight on this. 100% do not want to teach you to suck eggs, but I hope that all info that is reported from sources within RockStar etc is suitably sanitised / paraphrased to avoid tracing back (see Barium meal / Canary trap). Sure that’s likely being done, but have seen sources being burned elsewhere in recent years, keen it doesn’t happen here! Good luck in your investigation and here’s hoping pressure improves the situation for the affected staff.

Hey Tony, appreciate the comment! This is something we went back and forth with our source on over the last few days and in this case, given the number of members in the Discord and a variety of other details we're also aware of, we're feeling confident about the protections we've put in place.

In case the interim provisions don't kick off, it would be good to know if any crowdfunding starts to help out those laid off for a while. Sadly there's too many layoffs in our industry to help everyone, but this case really stings. Getting laid off because of heartless math sucks, but being laid off for trying to make things better is just another level :( Thx for reporting.

Thank you! Now I wonder if it was in the video and I just spaced out without noticing, sorry if that's the case >.<

Great work you're doing, folks!

Thank you for continuing to follow this story! It’s important work and I’m greatly appreciating being able to follow it through your excellent reporting. One small note: I like all the motion graphics, but I do find it hard to read the text when you blend the red and blue elements together, creating low contrast areas of red text over a dark background. It would be much more legible if the text remained white when blended like this!
