I wanted to send out a quick bit of appreciation to Danny and the Noclip team as they release the first in a five-part(!) series on the making of Disco Elysium today.Back when we published our first Disco Elysium documentary way back in May 2023, it turned out Danny was actually in the very early stages of planning their own set of interviews with the creators of this wonderful, complicated game for a big, Noclip retrospective number and our investigation, I think it's fair to say, threw a bit of a spanner in the works.There aren't loads of full-time video game documentary channels out there and so when end up tackling the same subject, even from different angles, it can be a bit tricky to navigate.I've known Danny for years, but up until that point we didn't really think to give each other much of a heads up about what we were working on, because it hadn't felt necessary. Afterwards, however, we have tried to do a little bit more of this and especially so when it comes to Disco.When we realized we needed to return to this story one more time at PMG earlier this year, I knew this was likely to cause another headache for Danny and so we let him know in case it was likely to have an effect on their own series that he'd been chipping away at for over a year at that point.He could not have been more understanding and more generous with his response. I'm pretty sure Noclip's series would have aired prior to now if it weren't for us needing to do our own follow-up (sorry Disco fans) and yet, Danny and the team were so kind about the whole thing at the time.And so, if you haven't watched it already, I've embedded the first video from their series above.Plus, if you're interested in the inside baseball, Danny and I are going to record some kind of big chat about our respective Disco work next week.
