Oh boy, I have a feeling this one's going to get some dislikes.

Over the last four years, Ubisoft has been experimenting with a dozen different blockchain projects, hoping to find a new revenue stream for this $1.5 billion games company. But does it have a stance on how that tech directly affects the climate crisis?

Ubisoft's Blockchain Experiments Are Bad for the Planet

Proof of stake > proof of work

Kraft Dinner

I'd given up ever understanding how blockchain / bitcoin work but I kind of get it now thanks to you and those yellow boxes. Merci!

Now we just have loads of yellow boxes! I feel like we ought to make fudge or something to put in them and gift them to people. - Anni

You're not wrong! I know some folks would have liked us to go into that in more detail in the video, particularly when talking about Ethereum's future. There were a few reasons why we chose not to. First of all, in Sorare's case, they're already responsible for hundreds of thousands of transactions using the current version of Ethereum. And so we do think they need to be held accountable for that, regardless of how much things may improve later down the line. The fact that the company's CEO didn't have anything concrete to say on that front suggests it's something they've not been thinking about a great deal up until now. Also, although Ethereum's jump to proof-of-stake has been talked about for a while now, it's also been delayed more than once. We really don't know when that's going to happen in full, or how successful it will be. But again, you're right, proof of stake might be an answer to some of the questions we posed. Perhaps companies like Ubisoft see that as the future of this tech - I just wish they'd wanted to talk to us about it, if so.

I am not going to lie, I was pretty worried when I saw the thumbnail. There is sooo much misinformation about crypto out there and I keep "losing" people who buy into this madness. You clearly did your homework researching how this works and then managed to make a summary that is easy to follow and correct. I saw so many failed attempts at this, I am not even sure if you realize how great of a job you did with it! I'm a software engineer and I believe if more people would really understand crypto they would make more informed choices and even better, avoid the thing entirely. Thank you, I am a happy patron! Cheers from Hungary :)

So, we are getting a People Make Games: Racing Pigeons in the future, right?

I don't know if it is related to this video, but the national news service in Norway just published an opinion piece about 'the shadow side of bitcoins' that discusses the exact content of this video. I'm going to assume that it is inspired by you guys, and just say congratulations and thank you for your hard work. =)

I had no idea. Thank you so much! Really great video and so informative.
