Hey everyone,

Bit of a surprise announcement here, unless you've been hanging out in our Discord over the weekend. We've just launched a podcast called The Games Press!

This is going to be a new monthly show in which Chris interviews interesting voices from around the games media about how and why they do their work.

We're hoping it'll grow into a fantastic tool for aspiring games journalists and anyone else interested in how the media works, but also, Chris just really loves this subject and is eager to see what he can learn that will then feed back into his own work on PMG.

Our first guest is Austin Walker, the host of podcasts like Waypoint Radio and Friends at the Table. Before now, he's served as Waypoint's Editor-in-Chief, as well as a short (but extremely impactful) stint at Giant Bomb East.

He's an incredibly sharp critic and a huge believer in recognising the fact that games, just like all cultural objects, are informed by the world in which they belong to. But can video games 'save us'? He's a little less sure of that.

The podcast should now be available wherever you like to listen to yours, aside from Google Podcasts, which is dragging its heels. Here's the links:

Dunno how you appear in the Overcast Directory, but I couldn't find you by searching there (added via URL instead)

Excellent, and what a guest to start with indeed! Audio quality is brilliant too, which I think really helps for a podcast. Of course Austin has the equipment for it, but I hope you'll find ways to keep the bar high for future guests. As a fan of many of the UK voices in games (and board games) journalism, really looking forward to this series! Thanks again!

That's good to hear! We've invested in a new mic/mic stand on my end, which I'm very proud of. -Chris

Really enjoying this podcast, especially as it fits what I think is the ethos of your work - it's far more about the people than the games. I guess I also have a suggestion, or a request, for a future guest, if that is welcome - I would really like to hear you talk to Kevin Macleod, of Incompetech. I see his name everywhere, but interviews seem few and far between. I recently saw there was a documentary out about him too, but I can't quite tell if it actually exists or not. Either way, I'd love to hear you chat with him!

Aha, I'm very familiar with that name. For a while at least, every YouTuber out there seemed to rely on his catalogue of music for their videos. What a hero.

I'm really enjoying the first episode. I'm not steeped in the games journalism world, and had never heard of Austin before. Unsurprisingly, he's as decent and thoughtful as you all are. I'm in for any conversation you want to have with anyone.
