What began as an investigation into the collapse of a single indie studio became something much bigger, as more and more developers came forwards to share their stories with PMG.

We're sorry this one's taken a long time to get to you! The reporting for this video has included around thirty interviews over several months and the topic, as you'll soon see, is a sensitive one. Thank you for allowing us the space and the time to try and get this right.

Thanks for this. I had vaguely been thinking that I should join your patreon for a while. This is what gave me the final push I needed.

I've had a manager like this. It wasn't this extreme, but I know what these people are talking about when they say that it pulls you down into a dark pit of self-doubt. The depression, the suicidal ideation, all of it is really familiar to me. Especially in the US where there are no social safety nets for the unemployed (not enough to live on, anyway), it's so, so hard to walk away from the security of a job. And it's even harder to deal with the stress of interviewing for something else while you're in that kind of situation. Plus, there's always the "well, why are you leaving your current job?" question, and being honest with that can cause the same kind of problems that the people interviewed for this video chose anonymity to avoid. Why is the games industry so toxic?

Tepache Loco

Such a valuable piece of commentary and journalism. Thanks for this!

No exaggeration to say you're doing some of the best and most important reporting in the industry right now.

So proud of you all. Thank you for exposing the abusers.

OMFG these are all indie darlings. Jesus I'm so bummed.

This is such incredible work. Thank you so much folks. A lot of the stories resonate with my experiences on the academic side of game studies and it's such a huge bummer. I hope you all are doing well - it's hard and exhausting work to hold these kinds of stories.

New patron, largely because of this video. Very glad the algorithm floated you my way. This work is important and worth funding.

Only just got round to watching this video, because I knew the emotional toll this damning video would enact on me, and jesus. Incredible video as ever, but so disheartening. Hope that everyone at PMG is getting the care/rest they need after that!
