Hey patrons,

So this one's a little different to our usual videos!

We've wanted to do a video about classism in the games industry for a few years now, but both Quinns and I have never really felt like the right people to tackle that particular subject. We're both middle class men and will inevitably have some blind spots when it comes to this topic.

However, I'm delighted to say that for the very first time, we've hired a freelance reporter to come and work with us and help PMG cover something we couldn't have done ourselves. In this case it's the wonderful Sam Greer, who's absolutely smashed it as far as we're concerned.

Now this isn't something we're going to be doing all the time. Even though Sam has taken the lead on this video, it's still required a lot of work from the rest of the PMG team. But we're very, very excited to now have the possibility of working with other reporters, should the right story come our way.

And we couldn't have done that without your support here on Patreon. We've paid Sam fairly for her work and given her as much time as we could to get this one right and that's entirely down to your help. So thanks, as always, for that!

I think it's turned out pretty great.

Spectacular work as always. Covering tough issues like this makes me incredibly proud to support the work you guys do.

Brilliant video. Honestly one of those videos where I want to give more - certainly will if I can :)

Another great PMG video, hiring frelance journalists seems like a promising option for increasing the scope and output of what you do but it certainly has its own risks - I feel like you did a great job managing them here. Maybe it's always been there and I'm just unobservant, but is the 'supported by Loading' tag at the end of the video new? I'm assuming Loading is some kind of company providing financial support, but I'd rather not have to assume haha. Unfortunately 'loading' is a pretty general name so I struggled to find any information on what it is through search engines. Would be nice to hear about what Loading is/are, maybe a link in the video description if that is suitable.

PMG continuously feel so genuine in approach, topic, and character. Finally became a patron after this one :)

Hey Connor, that's a fair question! "Supported by Loading" has been there from the start actually and it's also something we reference more directly in the podcast we publish every month or so. But you're totally right, it could do with a link in the video description -- I'll sort that! Loading is a local company to us in the UK that runs a set of gaming bars (two in London and one in Brighton). They've very kindly sponsored PMG since day one and back then, we really needed it. It's only a few hundred £ per month, so it's really not comparable to our Patreon support or anything like that, but we like the bars and these days it's a nice financial justification for me to do The Games Press (as we do a little sponsored by message at the start of each episode). Here's a link to Loading's site, if you're interested: https://loading.bar/

Ah sounds brilliant, cheers for the timely reply! I may need to get myself a new pair of glasses...

Wonderful episode. I've worked in games for 5+ years, often finding myself emotional around minimum specifications conversations, because of how limited my hardware was growing up. Feels nice to know there's other people with similar working-class backgrounds in the industry

Absolutely fantastic episode. Well-researched, covers a ton without being overwhelming, beautifully produced! Would love to see a world-wide perspective on this from other creators.

Another wonderful episode. And love Sam's reporting. A timely issue! Thank you all!
