So I just realized that I've never watched a Clint Eastwood movie... CRAZY. Let's fix that! Help me choose a movie to watch next! Okay I know that American Sniper is directed by Clint Eastwood and that he's not in the movie. I've been recommended that movie a lot, so I thought I'd go ahead and include it on this poll! Happy voting!

I find your lack of spaghetti westerns disturbing

Bryan Fritchie

If Dirty Harry doesn't win, then people have no idea what they're talking about. 🤣

adam weisler

Can I suggest "In the Line of Fire" too? It's terrific!

Randee Carreno

Happy Thursday, Addie! 😊 Great poll for this week. "Million Dollar Baby" got my main vote with "Dirty Harry" second. Have a great day! 😊

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Lots of good choices... I voted for Unforgiven (I only vote for one) but Million Dollar Baby would have been my next choice

Jon Anderson

When I find someone who hasn't seen Dirty Harry, I vote for them to watch Dirty Harry. That's my policy.

Mark Dahlen

Great list. I'm picking unforgiven because Gene Hackman steals the movie!

Byrd N. Hand

All 5 Harry Callahan movies. 😋

Alex Tan

Happy Thursday, Addie. All are great choices but my votes go for Dirty Harry (1971) and the Oscar-winning movies Unforgiven (1992) & Million Dollar Baby (2004), as well as Gran Torino (2008). #MoreClintEastwoodForAddieCounts

I must be sending you Clint brain vibes -- I just rewatched Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970) yesterday. I'm voting for Unforgiven largely because I'm hoping that will lead you to watching more Eastwood westerns.

Alex Tan

I second In The Line of Fire (1993). It's directed by Wolfgang Petersen (RIP), the director of Air Force One (1997). #InTheLineOfFireForAddieCounts

Alex Tan

Speaking of Gene Hackman, I also suggest The French Connection (1971), The Chamber (1996), Behind Enemy Lines (2001) and the Tony Scott movies Crimson Tide (1995) & Enemy of the State (1998). #MoreGeneHackmanForAddieCounts

Mr. Writhms

I’m so stoked for this! But here's my take on "Unforgiven"... That was Clint Eastwood’s final magnum opus in Westerns. Starting with that would be like eating dessert before a meal, in my opinion. If you’re going to start with a Clint Eastwood western, make it something like “High Plains Drifter” (1973 - or one of his other early Hollywood westerns). Or you can go back further to his Italian “spaghetti” westerns like “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964). Maybe watch a couple more of his early westerns first. It’s not totally necessary to enjoy “Unforgiven,” but you will surely have a better feel for what the character is about.

Alex Vazquez

The best starting point for Clint is where it all began: Sergio Leone's "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly".

Doug

Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven are both fantastic. I like Gran Turino too. Dirty Harry is ok, a bit dated maybe. And American Sniper is decent, although since it doesn’t actually star Clint Eastwood I’d probably suggest one of the ones that does given the theme. 🤷‍♂️

Then I'll add "Play Misty for Me," (his directorial debut), "The Beguiled" (the '71 adaptation), and "The Outlaw Josey Wales."

Doug

Gene Hackman’s amazing in general. 😄

Byrd N. Hand
>>145311801

And I'll suggest "Bonnie and Clyde," "Scarecrow," "The Conversation," "French Connection II," "Night Moves," "Mississippi Burning," and the first 2 "Superman" movies.

Vwlss Nvwls

Yes to all. If it stars Clint Eastwood, it is worth a watch, even the bad ones. If it is directed by Clint Eastwood it is also worth a watch, and I do not believe there are any bad ones... though I could be wrong.

Joseph Voigt

Must go with Unforgiven, it's a classic! But where is my favorite High Plains Drifter?

Ben Wheeler

All of these..good choices. But hear me out—the entire Man With No Name trilogy (Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly). Also he directed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil about my hometown Savannah Georgia and filmed there.

Mannygogou

There are those who will say not to watch Unforgiven first - watch it 3rd or 5th after watching any of his other westerns 🙂

ButtercupsTrueLove

Clint's directorial debut was "Play Misty For Me", the same year that "Dirty Harry" was released. It was a good start to what became his mainstay career.

BlakeK80DrumCovers

You honestly can't really go wrong here. Clint is captivating in basically every role he's ever portrayed.

Cameron Kerby

You should also consider The Outlaw Josey Wales too.

Mannygogou

Clint Eastwood also did movies like Every Which Way But Loose (1978), The Gauntlet (1977) as well as a bunch of his westerns. I like the iconic poncho wearing characters of his. I dunno what about Pale Rider (1976) or Outlaw Josey Wales (1985)? Not sure but probably no poncho there? Anyway he did several genres of movies. In Unforgiven he's an older version of a western character... that's one reason to watch a couple of his younger other iconic westerns first. Unforgiven is like a commentary on the genre.

Mannygogou

I searched and he did 15 westerns. An interesting question might be if Addie will only watch 2 Clint Eastwood films, other than Unforgiven what would be the other one? I'm no Eastwood expert but The Good The Bad and the Ugly might be a choice because it has a lot of the memorable elements in it. And yea, I don't mind if people watch Unforgiven first. I have to shrug lol.

Mr. Writhms

Ohhhh! Shots fired! Though was it six shots or only five?

JayF

Anything I've seen that he has directed or starred in has been well worth it, IMO.

Happy Hanukkah

"I just realized that I've never watched a Clint Eastwood movie" 😲😲😲🤯🤯🤯 :-) Let me rephrase your statement more positively: "I've just realized there's an entire trove of excellent movies waiting for me!" :-)

Lemurian Jones

In all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself.

Ben Wheeler

I’m a sucker for Runaway Jury. Sue me.

Michael Saville

Sully was also directed by Clint Eastwood and, no, he’s not in that either but maybe that sort of counts? 🤷‍♂️

aarswft

Oh come on. Million Dollar Baby you cowards.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Hi Addie, for future reference, I would also recommend these films not otherwise mentioned. The War films (Where Eagles Dare 1968 & Kelly`s Heroes) 1970). Also, the Westerns (High Plains Drifter 1973 & Pale Rider 1985). The U.S. Political thriller (Absolute Power 1997). :)

Saraliese

Unforgiven was my introduction to Clint Eastwood western movies as a kid. I saw it in the theater. Loved it. My favorite on reflection I think. It's just a great movie regardless of what order in my eyes. Just throwing my anecdote into the mix. I hadn't ever watched any westerns fully before it, but I saw bits and pieces of random ones on TV and could just tell it was different than the pow pow pow that I occasionally saw on TV. Funny thing. The song Unforgiven by Metallica came out a year before that so I had this weird idea that the movie was related some how before I went in the theater. I didn't even know it was a western before going in. Of course it was silly.

Baldemort

These are all great films, but you MUST watch Million Dollar baby and Gran Torino at least once in your life. It truely is one of his best movies that comes from his later life as an actor. He directed and starred in both Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino. Directing his own movies he stars in. Its just amazing.

Baldemort

You got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

Andre Agog

Dirty Harry is an American masterpiece.

Byrd N. Hand
>>145310819

I know she has a lot of franchises on her plate right now, but eventually also doing its 4 sequels would be nice, too.

Bryan Fritchie

I didn't realize there were that many. It's been so long since I've seen any of them. I also noticed the fifth one is called "Dead Pool". 🤣

Alex Tan

Michael Kemmet

I'm not going to say it's his best film(it's not even in the top half), but Space Cowboys is a guilty pleasure of mine.

carbsix

Missing a lot.... A Perfect World (with Kevin Costner), Pale Rider, The Outlaw Josie Wales, Where Eagles Dare... but as far as this poll, being a Marine veteran myself, American Sniper is heartbreaking...

SmooothE🚔🚔

I would say Heartbreak Ridge which is a comedy somewhat serious military comedy with ole Clint
