My reaction to 50 First Dates will be up tomorrow, and I'm planning on watching There's Something About Mary soon as well! Help me choose a movie to watch next!

Troy please

Tom W.

Glory is outstanding, but you'll cry.

Bryan Dempsey

Glory should be watched this month regardless of the outcome for Black History Month.

Randee Carreno

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 Great choices for this poll. "Glory" got my main vote. With "Troy" as my second choice. Have a great day today. 😊

Easily the weakest title on this poll, as far as I'm concerned... so naturally it'll win. 🙄

Alex Tan

Happy Tuesday, Addie. All are great choices but my votes belong to Apocalypse Now (1979), Glory (1989), We Were Soldiers (2002), Troy (2004), Fury (2014) and Dunkirk (2017), basically most of the movies here.

Thomas Wetherell

This is a travesty that they can’t all win, she needs to watch all of these movies at some point. Except Fury, the ending of that movie was so ridiculously implausible that my parents and I were actually laughing the whole time.

Alex Tan

However, I STRONGLY recommend the 2019 Final Cut. #ApocalypseNowFinalCutForAddieCounts

Stephen Malloy

For future reference, it would be far better to watch the 1930 original All Quiet before the modern version.

Alexander George

Definitely Glory & Dunkirk.. I think you have seen most of Nolan Movie, Addie... The Prestige is a good Nolan film to see.

Byrd N. Hand
>>163573262

She unfortunately saw it pre-channel... though I'd be all for a re-watch once she's seen his entire filmography.

Byrd N. Hand
>>163572562

Agreed, Alex; it's a good compromise between the original theatrical cut and the 'Redux' cut.

Billy Dancel

I am so thrilled to see Glory return for a poll. Crossing my fingers and toes

Augustus87

All Quiet on the Western Front changed me, even as a veteran. To see the loss, the tragedy, and the uncaring, uninvolved persons who made the decisions affecting millions of lives in WW 1 affects me still.

Luis Fernandez

Voting for Glory. Great movie and appropriate for Black History Month.

Baldemort

As a veteran I also love All Quiet On The Western Front. However that depends which one you watch. Its been remade as movie a 3 times. The original in the late 1930s, then one in the 70 and one that came out a few years ago. If you do a poll I'd suggest doing the 1930s original and the newest one. That being said. We Were Soldiers is my vote alone with Dunkirk and Glory. Honestly most movies in this poll besides Troy are worth it.

Given that she just watched "1917," I'd rather she do a film focusing on a different war this time. Plus, as someone else mentioned, the original 1930 version is more significant in terms of the history of film anyway.

Alexis

Platoon is possibly the greatest Vietnam War movie of all time (and in my opinion it is). It's semi-autobiographical as it's heavily based on Oliver Stone's own experiences there. Little bit disappointed that it's coming in almost last, but it's also an older movie that most younger people have never heard of.

Andre Agog

A very solid list. In my opinion the best American war movie is The Big Red One (1981). The best war movie overall is Come And See (1986) but there's no way I would want Addie to watch it.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Again all the good ones bottom of the list. Only had one film of interest in 2025. Maybe it's me and an age thing. Still my favourite reactor by the way. Just praying I can find something in the next month or two. Much Lubs

Doug

Looks like Addie is in a war movie mood to balance out the Rom-Coms. 😄 I’m going with Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Troy on this one. (Troy isn’t quite as classic a war movie as the first two, but I kind of liked it and it’s been a while since I’ve seen it so I’m down for it. 🙂 The fight choreography with Brad Pitt as Achilles is pretty great!)

thomas king

We Were Soldiers is an amazing movie

The Uber Geek

If you are going to do Troy (as a historian, I hate this film) do the directors cut!

Doug

Just adding a couple of additional war (or war-time at least) movie suggestions for next time it comes up. 🙂 (Clearly not an exhaustive list, just ones that popped out to me glancing at War films on Flickchart) - The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - The Great Escape (1963) - Patton (1970) - The Duelists (1977) - Empire of the Sun (1987) - Three Kings (1999) - Enemy at the Gates (2001) - Downfall (2004) - The Imitation Game (2014)

Mr. Writhms

"Apocalypse Now" is one of the best films ever made period. It just happens to be a war film. It's a must see! By far, Francis Ford Coppola's best!

Jasbro

Fury is losing again, rip, hopefully one day.

Jake Steffen

Glory is an amazing film and I hope it gets chosen. But there really is not a bad choice in the lot

Kyle Brandon Sanger

Great poll Addie, lots of great choices, 'Fury' is one of the best modern war films, 'Dunkirk' in my opinion is better than '1917'. But 'Apocalypse Now' is one of my favorite films of all time. A masterpiece.

Alex Tan

Steve Mercier

Apocalypse Now probably won't win...but Apocalypse Now all the f***ing way.

Alex Tan

Since it looks like that Troy (2004) is winning the poll, say it with me: WE WANT THE DIRECTOR'S CUT! ✊ WE WANT THE DIRECTOR'S CUT! ✊ WE WANT THE DIRECTOR'S CUT! ✊ WE WANT THE DIRECTOR'S CUT! ✊ #TroyDirectorsCutForAddieCounts

Philip Davetas

I chose Final Cut of APOCALYPSE NOW, but the Redux is just as good.

Patrick Anderson

Apocalypse now will expose the craziness of war. I highly recommend it

Matthew Linson

Definitely "Glory"! That is one that my high school history teacher showed us years ago and it is such a great and impactful film and it's one that I think you will truly enjoy.

Raj Hudek

Seriously Addie... How do you come up with these polls? "Siri, list the top battle/war movies of all time so that my Patreons won't be able vote on one because they're all fire." LOL I'm gonna go with Glory, but I hope it doesn't win because I don't know if I can afford to order Kleenex in bulk right now!

JSin

Platoon won 4 oscars but never wins these polls, hope you get to it sometime, its the best cast of all the movies.

Byrd N. Hand
>>163600934

The Final Cut at least eliminates the totally unnecessary 'private time with the Bunnies' segment (which also leads to a problematic plot detail later) and shortens the French plantation segment (which clumsily attempts to politicize the war).

Byrd N. Hand
>>163600349

If it gets enough votes, she still might watch it. Keep pumping up those numbers, folks!

Gremlin8723

I recommend another fantastic movie albeit little known and underrated. It's called Men of Honor with Robert De Niro and Cuba Gooding Jr. Maybe watch that sometime in the future if you want to feel inspired

Bran Flakes
>>163586002

What does a fictional story by Homer have anything to do with being a historian? ^_^

The Uber Geek
>>163586002

"stories" in the Greek narrative are histories with an exaggerated element. But they are still part of history and should be approached with their accuracy as the cornerstone for any adaptation.

Byrd N. Hand
>>163584857

The weird thing to me about "We Were Soldiers" is that it's a Vietnam War movie presented like a WWII movie. It's still the only un-cynical movie about that war that I've ever seen, which I feel is kind of problematic given that time and history have told us otherwise that we had no business being involved in that conflict in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Looks as though we're getting a three-fer!

Byrd N. Hand
>>163589826

Coppola made 4 of the best films of the '70s: "Apocalypse Now," the first 2 "Godfather" films, and the criminally underrated "The Conversation" (which I'm hoping *someone* will finally react to eventually 🙏). But the rest of his filmography is a mixed bag.

Bobby Cowart

I like the choices that you have given us, but there is one movie that I would really like to share with you because it seems that we have a similar taste in movies. The movie is called Dances With Wolves with Kevin Costner. If you do choose to watch this movie make sure you get the long extended version where it has the whole movie because they do cut the movie. Make sure your have some tissues

Bobby Cowart

I would like to also recommend another horror classic Christine. I know you don't like horror to much but it's a good one

Alex Tan

(UPDATE) She has confirmed that she plans on watching the theatrical version of Troy (2004), due to the DC being over 3 hours long.
