Such a classic of the genre. And that Basil Poledouris score is awesome. There is a sequel, Conan The Destroyer; it’s not as good but it’s still fun. The 2011 remake was gosh darn awful. Contemplate that on the Tree of Woe.

Let's give Addie a round of applause for surviving the snake scenes in Conan The Barbarian (1982)! 👏👏 Happy Friday. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this movie, despite the snakes and all. Now I REALLY wanna watch this one because it made Arnold VERY FAMOUS.

"Addie, what is best in life?" This is an epic, a sword and sorcery classic! This film has one of the best scores ever by Basil Poledouris. I love this film and the character created by Robert E. Howard (RIP), it has so much depth and philosophical themes. 'Conan the Barbarian' is one of the greatest fantasy films ever made!

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 It's been years since I've seen this movie. The only thing I remember about it is that Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones(RIP always) are in it. Looking forward to revisiting this movie later this evening with this reaction. For more Arnold Schwarzenegger, I very highly recommend the 1988 movie "Twins". Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

Speaking of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I also suggest his two other Ivan Reitman comedies, Kindergarten Cop (1990) & Junior (1994). I also suggest Commando (1985), The Running Man (1987), Last Action Hero (1993), Eraser (1996), End of Days (1999), The 6th Day (2000), and Collateral Damage (2002). #MoreArnoldSchwarzeneggerForAddieCounts

I'm surprised and happy that you enjoyed yourself watching this Addie! This is one of my favorite films. Addie, what do you think the Riddle of Steel is? I am a huge fan of Robert E. Howard's novels and short stories. He was one of the first pulp writers in the 1930s and Conan is 90 years old. This film has a lot of subtext and treats its audience like adults with its imagery, themes, and dialogue. I love the quote: "He is Conan, Cimmerian, he does not cry. So I cry for him." In the books and the later comics, Conan was born during battle and grew up in a warrior society and people of Cimmeria. As an adult, he seeks after riches, women, adventure, and bloody combat, traveling the ancient world of Hyboria as a mercenary.

Great Reaction, def check out Commando (1985) and The running man (1987) two great Arnold movies

Lol, when I saw Conan winning the poll I knew it would be a movie Addie would like while also HATING all the snakes! 😄

Luis Fernandez

A James Earl Jones character tried the ol' father/son thing but it didn't work out so well for him in this movie. I chuckled when you noticed the hand in the soup. In the human stew. In the hand chowder. In the blue body bouillabaisse. Please consider watching Conan the Destroyer. It has a much different tone than this one... more jokey and with fewer snakes.

Shooter The Emu With A Gun

Sword and sorcery is the typically used as the genre type to define this style of movie. There are other movies of this type but they usually are lower budget affairs and Conan the Barbarian stands as the best I have seen in my opinion.

Mr. Writhms

A lot of people overlook the Arnold and Jim Belushi buddy-cop movie "Red Heat" (1988). Please put that one on your poll list?

It’s funny, while watching this it reminded me that a problem I had with Neverending Story is that movie had too much exposition. Conan is the opposite though, it has surprisingly little dialogue, “showing, not telling”, and it’s a better film for it. We don’t need a big backstory on the world or the snake cult or what the heck that big wheel is supposed to be doing that Conan is pushing around, we see from the action itself what we need to know (i.e. the cult is evil and Conan bulked up by pushing a giant wheel for years on end). Why is the wizard guy out in the desert, what’s his backstory? Who cares, all we need to know is he’s an eccentric guy who’s a wizard and gets along with Conan. So yeah, sometimes the acting’s a little cheesy and the effects are a little outdated but how Conan shows its story rather than tells it is a good lesson in film design. It’s a decent 7.5 out of 10 for me, not my favorite action movie of all time but a fun watch with an awesome musical score to boot! 🙂

I know, right. I bet it'll rank second with Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) with the strongest snake scare. I even got a good kick out of her jamming out to the Universal logo.

"a problem I had with Neverending Story is that movie had too much exposition." Think about this comment for a moment.

Doug

I know, you'd think a movie called "The Neverending Story" would be better at telling it. 🤷‍♂️

The first time I saw this movie was when I was still in Los Angeles. Back when KCOP channel 13 was rebranding itself as "very independent." During the summer of 1991, when T2 came out, they released this flick on a normal night with "viewer discretion advised." KCOP had a mild reputation of letting words slip here and there on weekends when most kids were out playing in the yard. But on this particular night on prime time, they showed everything. All the blood and even more so all the nudity. I was a happy boy, but I knew someone just got fired. And so went away the "very independent" re-brand and they went back to heavily censoring everything. * Oh yeah. How about this? Watch BEAST MASTER. It'll wreck your mind.

I have a strong suspicion Addie would absolutely thrive in the world of Conan. Not only is she One with Steel, but her personal mantra is “To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women” as tattooed on her shoulder.
