Happy Friday, Addie.

To answer the andor question, the third season of that show is rogue one. The show builds up to that film (and makes it even better)

Thank you for putting so much thought into answering my question Addie. I probably could have changed it to where and when would you live or visit because I wouldn’t want to live in any other time just simply because quality of life would be lower no matter where you went. Personally I don’t think I’d go very far back, maybe America in the early 1900’s, there’s just so many things my parents, grandparents and great grandparents got to live through I would’ve liked to see for myself. Happy May!

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 Thanks so much for another great monthly Q&A. So excited to watch "A Knight's Tale" with you for the winning 'Spinning Wheel" movie pick of the month. Love that movie. Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

Doug

Fun Q&A as always. 🙂 (Some day the Spinny Wheel will land on my pick... 🤞) - Season 2 of Last of Us is pretty good so far. I’m not quite as into it as Season 1 but it’s still an entertaining show, probably a 7/10 for me where I thought Season 1 was 8/10. 🤷‍♂️ (Just comparing in my head these two seasons to the first two seasons of The Walking Dead for instance I think I’d rate TWD seasons 1 and 2 9/10, but that’s just me.) - Lol, can you even learn to pole vault in a day? 😄 I think it normally takes a few weeks of practice to even clear a bar. - Make a mental note to watch Super/Man The Christopher Reeve Story some time, Addie, either on or off the channel, it’ll make you like him even more if that’s possible. 😄 (Just have some tissues handy.) - I will be really curious to see what show Addie watches after Last of Us is over. I know she’s already got a pretty great short list of shows that don’t have dozens and dozens of episodes for a possible poll from Patreon suggestions (e.g. Andor, Peacemaker, Ted Lasso, Sandman, Good Omens, Agatha All Along, etc.) So the question isn’t if she can find a good show, it’s just hard to tell which one she eventually picks or wins the next TV poll. 🤷‍♂️ - I can’t speak to what viewership would be like but reacting to a silent film probably would work ok, Addie, after all you reacted to A Quiet Place! 😄 - FYI it’s the Battlestar Galactica remake from the 2000s that you would want to watch. The original isn’t as good. 🤷‍♂️ (The issue with the remake being it does have a lot of episodes so it’s a long commitment like you said. It’s a good show though, especially the first few seasons!) - I wonder why Waterworld is being recommended recently? I mean, it’s ok (like 5-6 out of 10 🤷‍♂️ 43% Rotten Tomatoes) so it’s not the worst film, but there are definitely some better Kevin Costner movies Addie hasn’t watched yet (e.g. No Way Out, Bull Durham, Mr. Brooks, The Bodyguard, Hidden Figures). I’d go for any of those before Waterworld, that’s just me. - Brave New World was ok, maybe 6/10? It has some great action sequences but … I don’t know, felt a little boring overall somehow? 🤷‍♂️ Thunderbolts* was really good though, 8/10 for me. It’s up there with the first Doctor Strange movie I think (not in my top 5-10 MCU films probably but close!) So between that and Addie hopefully eventually watching Agatha All Along and season 3 of What If…? at some point I’m looking forward to her catching up on MCU stuff eventually. 🙂

Happy Friday, Addie. Thank you for answering my Q&A questions. Nice Hufflepuff shirt, BTW. Here are my thoughts on certain things: 1. Congratulations @Insufferable Smartypants! 👋👋🎉🎉 Your suggestion for A Knight's Tale (2001) has just won Addie's spinning wheel. 2. A Marvel/DC themed dinner party sounds like fun. 3. The Great Wall (2016) is more of a monster movie that takes place in the Great Wall of China during the reign of Emperor Renzong. 4. Daylight (1996) is a disaster movie with Sylvester Stallone. 5. Waterworld (1995) and Twisters (2024) were on the spinning wheel. I do hope that they win on either a future spinning wheel or on a future poll. 6. The only movie I would watch that Jonathan Bailey is in would be Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025). You already know that I have no interest in watching last year's Wicked: Part I (2024) and the upcoming Wicked: For Good (2025) at all, because of how most movie musicals aren't my thing. When the teaser for Wicked: For Good drops, I'm immediately disliking it. If I really wanna see a movie that was directed by Jon M. Chu, then it would have to be either G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) or Now You See Me 2 (2016). If I really wanna see Cynthia Erivo in a movie, then it'll be Bad Times at the El Royale & Widows, both from 2018. And if I wanna see Ariana Grande in a movie, then it'll have to be a large scale straight pure action thriller with nonstop action, guns, explosions, cars, shaky cam, & an ominous heart-pounding synthesized film score, and/or a horror thriller with slow burns that builds up on suspense for effective jump scares. 7. "With streaming it's so easy to grab any movie now." Oh boy. Physical media collectors are gonna be pissed. I understand the conveniences of streaming but I still love to buy movies on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD because the picture quality ALWAYS stays the same, there are behind the scenes bonus features, you can hold onto it and admire the artwork on the front, and most importantly, the director's vision is preserved (especially with the IMAX versions of Christopher Nolan's movies being preserved on 4K UHD & Blu-ray). If anything, I would love to go back to the glory days of being at a Blockbuster and deciding what movies I want to rent or buy on DVD & Blu-ray. With streaming, convenient and all, the picture quality always changes due to the strength of the wi-fi. 8. Yes, please watch Captain America: Brave New World on Disney+ and NOT as a rental on Prime Video. The $20 bucks ain't worth it and I would rather see you watch the IMAX version as well. In spite of what I have said on 7., this is my only exception.

A Knight's Tale is as cheesy as a camembert spread but it's a charming little movie.

Doug

Regarding MCU movies, Echo and Secret Invasion are two of the lowest rated MCU shows in terms of reviews. Agatha All Along in contrast has received much higher reviews and Youtube views on all channels than those two (e.g. it averaged 120k views per post on Cinepals compared to, say, its more typical view count of 40-50k that they get for other shows like Last of Us.) And on Addie's channel one of her highest viewed videos is Deadpool & Wolverine which is still less than a year old (it only released in July 2024). So just looking at the numbers I think you're underestimating the current viewership for MCU shows and films. Really how many views a specific MCU project gets will depend more on how well badly it was originally received. Thunderbolts is being very well received, for example, so I'd expect it to likewise do similarly well on Addie's channel and others. Likewise for Agatha All Along, it was extremely well received so should do well. What If... season 3 was moderately well received, not as popular as the projects I just mentioned but still did ok, so likewise I'd expect it to do ok here. As far as Squid Game goes, honestly I didn't think the second season was as good as the first, I'm personally kind of ambivalent about season 3 overall. 🤷‍♂️ That's just me though, I have no idea how well or badly it would do. P.S. If Addie is actually looking to jump on the bandwagon of a show that's releasing soon, Peacemaker Season 2 is coming out shortly and getting a lot of buzz. It could hypothetically be a really good time to watch Season 1 and 2 together.

YES! I love A Knight's Tale. It wasn't a big hit when it came out, but a lot of people discovered it through renting it or seeing it on TV. On paper, some parts of it don't make much sense, but it works. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll get caught up in jousting.

Doug

Just FYI Thunderbolts is already tied for the 2nd highest grossing worldwide film of 2025 and it's only been out two weeks, it hasn't tanked. (Minecraft is #1, Thunderbolts probably won't beat that one but it's still doing fine.) What's kind of funny about the MCU movies is they've literally been alternating between well received ones and not so well received ones. In reverse release order starting with the newest, the films have been (with their Rotten Tomatoes scores): - Thunderbolts (88%) - Captain America: Brave New World (47%) - Deadpool & Wolverine (78%) - The Marvels (62%) - Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (82%) - Antman and the Wasp Quantumania (46%) - Black Panther Wakanda Forever (84%) - Thor Love and Thunder (63%) - Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness (74%) - Spider-Man: No Way Home (93%) The pattern is pretty striking, it's alternating movies that are over 75% rating and below 65% rating, all the way back to basically No Way Home (with a slight tick at Multiverse of Madness which was in the middle.) So the notion the MCU movies have "really fallen off" as some people seem to think is a bit of a misconception, they're still putting out good ones, it's just they're also putting out so-so ones in between the good ones. (Which might not be a good sign for the Fantastic Four film but who knows? 🤷‍♂️)

"Awakenings" (1990) with two of thee greatest actors ever!

I'm sorry but Thunderbolts has tanked, financially. It costs $180 million to make (I'm not even including the additional $50-100 million in marketing). Right now, it's on pace to make $400 million or less world wide. Using the time tested 2.5 rule, it has to make $450 million to even make a profit. It's definitely going to lose a lot of money.

Doug

Your projection is off, it’s currently at least on track to be on par with Shang Chi which got about $450 million box office. It’s going to break even, not “lose a lot of money”. As an aside Brave New World cost significantly more to make than Thunderbolts but is currently grossing the same revenue, so Brave New World actually is losing money.

I watched The Great Wall (2016) in the theater and I was Greatly impressed (pun intended) It would be a treat to see Pedro Pascal before his Mandalorian days.
