Roll tide, Addie! Happy Wednesday. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Crimson Tide (1995), despite the stressful tension you felt. This is my third favorite Tony Scott movie behind #1 Top Gun (1986) & #2 Days of Thunder (1990). My favorite scene was when Ramsey shouts at Hunter "I AM THE COMMANDER OF THIS F***ING SHIP! GIVE ME THE GOD**** KEY!" because of the late Gene Hackman's performance in it. I also like the aforementioned argument between him and Hunter, regarding the orders to launch the missiles. This is also my favorite movie that was Filmed in Panavision (anamorphic) by Dariusz Wolski, ASC, because of the use of long lenses for tighter shots throughout and Dutch angles in the latter half of the movie, which makes it very suspenseful. And Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is very epic, especially with the use of synthesizers.

Speaking of Denzel Washington & Tony Scott, I also suggest Deja Vu (2006) (also produced by Jerry Bruckheimer), The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009), and Unstoppable (2010). #MoreDenzelWashingtonAndTonyScottForAddieCounts

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 This is another great Denzel movie. Such a great film! For more Denzel Washington, I still very highly recommend the 1989 "Glory" and the 1993 "The Pelican Brief". For more Gene Hackman, I highly recommend the 1996 "The Birdcage" and the 1995 "The Quick and the Dead". Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today. 😊

Nice! Do consider Denzel in "Man on Fire" He's top class in that one.

Alex Tan

She already watched Glory (1989) for the channel. Speaking of Gene Hackman (RIP), I also suggest The French Connection (1971), Hoosiers (1986), Mississippi Burning (1988), The Chamber (1996), an adaptation of the John Grisham novel, Enemy of the State (1998), also produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and also directed by Tony Scott, and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), directed by Wes Anderson. #MoreGeneHackmanForAddieCounts

She'll watch it soon. It was a runner up on her Tony Scott poll. #ManOnFire2004ForAddieCounts

Man on fire is amazing even though it's a remake

Tom W.

I always get this and "Hunt for Red October" confused.

Thanks Addie ! .. this is one of my favorite films that came out in the 90’s

MrAustincummings

Maybe you should start watching the movies that get last in the polls.

After watching the movie and Addie's real-time reaction, I think she was under as much stress as the sailors on that boat!

Doug

FYI Addie mentioned in her monthly letter that she's planning to watch Sinners this month. 👍

Doug

Excellent movie with a great soundtrack as well. 🙂 And on a tangent chalk one up for the "Interrupted Birthday Party" trope where a character is having a birthday party that gets interrupted by some shocking event. I feel bad for all these action movie heroes who never get to enjoy a birthday party uninterrupted! 😄

Alex Tan

... and also Behind Enemy Lines (2001).

Regarding the sailor who died in the fire, when a death occurs on a submarine, the body is stored in the galley's freezer; it's the only place cold enough to preserve it.

Michael

Great reaction! This movie always brings back so many memories. I used to work on a submarine in the Navy just like this one. I was on the USS Pennsylvania (SSBN). Thankfully we never got any orders to launch 🤣

Mr. Writhms

Also one the best submarine movies ever made is "U-571" (2000) in my opinion. PLEASE consider it for a future poll.

Alex Tan

Heads up! Jerry Bruckheimer says that a Crimson Tide sequel is in the works.

Mr. Writhms

Of course not. I'm not insane. 🙃

Michael

Nice man, I was a missile tech

I love this film and it's message because they we're both right and both wrong. Earlier in the film the fire, that is a legitimate action to organise a drill in such circumstance. Hunter got lucky that they were standing the missiles down. The film demonstrates the difference between academics who understand war theory but little to no experience, and those with real life experience who may let that experience run away with their own legends.
