The song "You'll Never Walk Alone" is from the 1945 musical Carousel. It's been covered by many artists since then, but a version by Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963 was the #1 single in the UK for 4 weeks. At that time the Liverpool Football Club was establishing itself as one of the top teams in the UK. Team manager Bill Shankly liked the single and its themes of unity, facing struggle and hardship as a group, standing together through good times and bad. Though Liverpool declined to be depicted in Ted Lasso (the trip to Liverpool in season 1 was to play crosstown rival Everton FC) the themes of You'll Never Walk Alone fit very well with the shows ethos, and to use it in the final scene when they have just been relegated is tonally perfect because, when do you most need the reassurance that your family, friends, and teammates are still with you? This is a famous clip of the song being played before a match held in Australia a number of years ago -- note that this is half-way around the world from their home in the UK: https://youtu.be/Go-jJlGd1so?si=tuBL6KIgJyY3aiWC

I always loved the way Keeley doesn’t say a word and just walks up to Roy to hold him. And Rupert is definitely the worst character on the show but Jamie’s dad is a close second

I love the irony that Richmond's ultimate downfall this season was because Ted helped get Jamie on a path to being a better person who would be willing to make the extra pass to score a goal. And Ted couldn't be prouder of him for that.

I loved the subversion of this finale: So many of us expected a last-minute victory in the Man City game (or at least the tie), but to have the clear loss and relegation was not on many people's radars. It didn't seem likely with a show that seemed so optimistic and hopeful, where Can-Do attitude carries you to victory no matter what. Interesting football fact: Jamie Tartt was #9 when he played at Richmond. The #9 is usually given to the main striker or centre-forward, and those players are usually the highest scorers given the position. This usually translates to a public perception that #9 is the "best" player on a team. However, when he's playing for Man City he's #51. To my knowledge that number doesn't have any special association, and somebody else is wearing #9. When he was with Richmond, he was THE best player on the team. At Man City -- a bigger, richer, more successful team -- he's still good, but he's not The Star.

Seasons 2 & 3 are great and I love them as well. But season 1 to me is one of the most perfect seasons of any show. With every episode I rewatch or watch with a reaction I'm always looking forward to the next with no reservations.

Can’t wait for season two! Oh…no…S2E1! Trigger warning! Sometimes futball ISN’T life. Assemble the Diamond Dogs. No, not dogs, service animals…😬

19:48- The phrase kissing your sister is used when something disappointing happens. When your team ties a game--doesn't even lose--that's kissing your sister. It's disappointing enough to lose, but even worse when you could've--should've--won and didn't. I use it a lot when I see an episode of the competition show that ends with no elimination. You go through all that just to have it end like that?? *That* is kissing your sister.
