I love that you thought Roy was actually going to beat up a little kid 😆

Not only did they have this holiday episode, but if you check the Extras they also did a full stop animation story too like the intro. 🧑‍🎄

The craziest thing about this episode is the day that it was first released... August 13, 2021. So why did the Ted Lasso writers put together a Christmas episode that would first be seen in the middle of summer? The show took off like crazy when the first season premiered in the summer of 2020 - when the whole world was stuck at home. The feedback Apple got was so positive that they quickly renewed it for a second season after only three episodes from the first season had been released, but they initially ordered only ten episodes for the second season. They knew they had a hit, but they didn't fully realize how big of a hit they had until the rest of S1 played out, and a few months after the 10 episode second season was ordered, Apple asked the Ted Lasso writers if they could add two more episodes to the season, because they knew how much the fans loved the show. Problem was, the second season had already been fully written for just ten episodes, so they didn't know exactly how to squeeze two more episodes into it. And thus, the Christmas episode was born. You may have noticed that none of the season's main storylines were incorporated into this episode, and that's because they needed an episode that could be plopped down anywhere in the season without messing up the flow. The natural plot progression of the show is Episode 3 leading into Episode 5 (which was originally written as Episode 4), which you'll pick up on when you watch the next episode. The thing about the Christmas episode is that you could actually skip right over it and not at all be lost in the overall storyline of the season - there are no major reveals or plot twists in this episode, because they didn't want to have to rewrite the rest of the season. That said, this episode is just so wholesome and heartwarming that you absolutely don't want to skip it. It stands very much on its own, and absolutely could be incorporated into an annual holiday rotation. Anyway, that's how the Christmas episode released in the middle of the summer came to be. And about that second add-on episode Apple requested from the writers? It's coming up later in the season... I won't say which episode, but you'll definitely know it when you see it. Completely different vibe than this episode, but not in a bad way. But like this one, it stands very much on its own. It's super trippy. I think you'll like it.
