Happy Friday, Addie. The Roger Moore James Bond movie mission continues with The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), the first Roger Moore James Bond movie to be filmed in Panavision (anamorphic).

Happy "James Bond" Friday, Addie! 😊 This is one of my favorite Roger Moore James Bond films. Definitely looking forward watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Yes, Addie!! Thank you for reacting to this. 'The Spy Who Loved Me' is one of the best Bond films ever and is my favorite of the Moore films. Believe it or not, this film saved the Bond franchise from discontinuing. I also like 'For Yours Eyes Only'. My family has a cool connection to Roger Moore, for a time when he was younger, Roger was married to Welsh singer Dorothy Squires, she was a distant cousin to my grandfather.

This is the first Bond film since OHMSS to bring up Tracy. Connery in Diamonds never came across as a grieving widower.

You're spot on with that Star Wars came out the same year. The producers were aiming for the biggest Bond film ever with The Spy Who Loved Me, and although the movie was profitable, it wasn't the big box office hit they've hoped for: Star Wars stole the show that year. So... for the next one they decided they would do it all over again: another biggest Bond film ever! Let's see if you can spot any Star Wars influence in that one ;) The Bond movies over the years started to move with what was popular in culture: Live and Let die was influenced by the popular blaxploitation movies, the next one will explain itself, Octopussy was influenced by the Indiana Jones movies (lot's of adventure). It was their way of keeping with the times and making sure that Bond would still be hip and happening. It worked, but eventually got more and more critique that Bond was becoming ridiculous, which in turn explains movies like For Your Eyes Only (more down to earth) and why future actors Dalton, Brosnan and Craig would play in more gritty Bond movies.

This one ends saying Bond will return in "For Your Eyes Only" but they decided to slip in "Moonraker" I will not spoil for you now the reasons. lol Anya (Barbara Bach) ended up getting married to Ringo Star of the Beatle in 1981. This one is considered the best Roger Moore bond outing. Hope to see what you think after you watch all of his. Jaws (Richard Kiel) I had meet and took a photo with him, with my head in the palm of his hands. lol. he had hugh hands, wish I could show you the photo lol

Love your Bond reactions. Keep them coming.

In 1977 most people in general did not know of or had never seen a jet ski so when that shot of Moore riding it popped up on screen it was mind blowing. Love that opening ski jump stunt. There was a concern that the discarded skis might get entangled in the parachute which thankfully didn't happen. Yes the summer of 1977 featured this movie, Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I really loved the music in this movie, it did so many cool and odd things. And that ship set... WOW. Big enough to fit three subs in. And without giving anything away the next Bond movie continues being epic in scope and scale. There are multiple sets in the next movie that many movie productions would die to have and they pop up for a moment and are never to be seen again.

Sadly, Sheriff J.W. Pepper will not be seen in any more Bond movies. I know Addie liked him so much!

Yeah Jaws is my favorite henchman for sure in the Bond films. (Lol, I kept picturing Addie trying to spray him back with a water bottle shouting "No Biting, Stop Biting!" 😄) And I agree, this one is definitely better than the prior Moore films. I think if I was going to nitpick about anything, I wish XXX got to actually be more of a superspy for more of the movie. It would have been fun for instance if after Bond's superspy sequences in the first act we switched to XXX getting into the thick of the action in her own superspy mission, ala something more like a Black Widow character. After all she's supposed to be Bond's equal so it would have been nice to have her show off those skills a little more than she did. 🤷🏻‍♂️

1977 was a big year in Britain, apart from Star Wars - it was the Queen’s Silver Jubilee (she came to the throne in 1952) so the country was feeling quite patriotic. I saw this one in the cinema aged 12, and I recall there was a huge cheer at the end of the pre-credits sequence when Bond’s parachute canopy opened as a Union Jack.

I always enjoy seeing Addie get jump scared. But I didn’t expect to see it so much during a James Bond movie! Now onto Moonraker!

Addie Counts

Right? So many unexpected jump scares in this one!
