Here's the full length reaction to Moonraker, the next Roger Moore James Bond movie! I don't necessarily think this is one of the best Bond films, but I think it's the most fun I've had watching a Bond movie so far! And I LOVE Jaws now?! Enjoy!

Happy Monday, Addie. I'm so glad that you had fun with Moonraker (1979), despite it not being one of the best Roger Moore James Bond movies. See you next year for For Your Eyes Only (1981).

Randee Carreno

Happy Monday, Addie! I hope that you had a great weekend. 😊 I remember only bits and pieces of this one. Looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

These were definitely the silly years. Still fun in its own way.

Adrian Duenas

That’s the general consensus in the Bond community Addie. Far from the best, but soooooo much fun! Fun fact: Originally Kate Bush was offered to sing the theme song, but she declined. Little Stranger Things tie in for you.

Roger Moore's tenure is often looked down upon by those who want Bond to be "serious", but even the most dour can't deny that they're FUN.

Robert da Spruce

Jaws is an iconic villain! The actor was also in Happy Gilmore

Hi Addie. Great reaction. I didn't remember there was a snake in this movie. I can't believe no one warned you about it.

This was the last movie that I saw in the theater with my father, so it has a special place in my heart. But, yeah, not the best Bond movie, but a heck of a lot of fun.

Luis Fernandez

Great reaction, Addie! While not the most serious movie, Roger Moore makes it super fun. He's my go-to Bond. Don't know if you noticed, but the musical key they used for lab entry was the same tune used in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Fun fact - when Jaws meets his new friend, in the original theatrical and VHS release, she actually had braces, which was supposed to enhance the connection between them. Later releases had the video edited to remove the braces because there were concerns that the braces made her look too young. Funnier fact - there are people that insist this is an example of the Mandela Effect, that she never had braces or some such bullshit, but that's not the case. Some do gooders changed the scene without realizing it removed an important thematic element: their connection through orthodontia.

Steve SG-1

Never seen this movie before, but Jaws being impossible to kill matches with the videogame version in Goldeneye in the secret Aztec levels.

Doug

This one also had some fun musical movie references 🙂 - When Bond meets Drax at the pheasant hunt, the bugler plays the open chord of the opening theme from 2001 A Space Odyssey (aka Also Sprach Zarathustra) - The entry code to the secret laboratory was the theme from the big finale of Close Encounters of the Third Kind - As they are riding on horseback in panchos the theme from The Magnificant Seven is playing.

Julian San

I hope any future dogs Addie gets are as sweet and lovable as Drax’s pooches. 🐶

Ramius

The close encounters theme was a favor returned by Spielberg; 4 years earlier he asked Beoccoli if he could use a snippet of the Bond theme for the movie “The Goonies”, now Broccoli asked to return the favor with a snippet from close encounters :)

Addie, if you seen the end of "The Spy Who Loved Me" you would have noticed it said the "James bond will return in "For Your Eyes Only" but instead they slipped in "Moonraker". The reason is the producers chose Moonraker instead because of the renewed interest in science fiction, due to the success of Star Wars, and NASA's and also current test flights of the Space Shuttle.

JAKH

The music when Bond is on horseback riding to the monastery is from "The Magnificent Seven" (1960)

Andrew Roach

Not sure if someone mentioned this on YouTube but just in case they didn't sadly this was the last appearance of Bernard Lee as M as he passed away, I believe of cancer, after this movie. Also a little visual effects tidbit I remember from this movie is that the big explosion of the space station was filmed looking up at the model so that the debris would fly away as it would in space. If they had filmed the explosion from the side the debris would fall down to gravity and that would not look right in space.

Sorry to correct, but this IS an example of the Mandela Effect. There were never any braces. At the time the film came out, people said that it would have been good IF she had braces for the thematic connection. Everybody invovled in the production have said they were never there, and even Blanche Ravalec (her actress) has confirmed that she did not wear braces while filming this movie. There's even a section on the film's Wikipedia page which discusses the situation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonraker_(film)#Mandela_effect_debate

Thomas Yanez

Thank you for the correction. I've gone back and forth on so many other false Mandela's that I guess I got it jumbled.

Movie was ahead of it's tiem. Drax is Musk.

This movie, seriously, ranks low due to its campiness. Eyes Only was intended as the sequel to Spy, but then Star Wars happened, and everyone wanted to cash grab the space craze. So, this movie was hurriedly produced and inserted between spy and eyes. It had a lot of good scenes, but the space stuff jumped the shark. And naming the love interest “Good Head,” sigh, equally abominable as “Pussy Galore”
