The Dude Abides

I heard somewhere that the villain in this movie is based off of Rupert Murdoch, which wouldn’t surprise me. Kind of scary how accurate an indictment of the media this movie is.

Happy Thursday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). This is the only Pierce Brosnan/James Bond movie to not hit at #1 at the box office due to it coming out on the same day as Titanic (1997), please rewatch that movie for the channel. But another 1997 Pierce Brosnan movie that I still suggest to you is Dante's Peak (1997). #DantesPeakForAddieCounts https://youtu.be/InoLNnC9ekQ?si=ocDZ6EsoAm63B2bn

Fun fact: The end credit song, “Surrender” by k.d. lang, was originally pitched as the main title song. But the studio wanted a bigger name artist, so we got Sheryl Crow’s song instead. I’ll always sit through the end credits bc I do prefer Surrender despite really enjoying Crow’s song.

I would say a mix of Rupert Murdoch and Robert Maxwell (the father of Ghislaine Maxwell, you know... Epstein's creepy girl) as Robert Maxwell died on his yacht and the real cause was never really found which is what M's joke at the end is referring to. Fun movie, only thing I never really liked is that Bond is swinging guns like Rambo in the end (pistol in one hand, machine gun in the other... a bit much for me for Bond.) Also the movie really nails that 1997 vibe if you ask me. Going to watch it immediately! :)

Happy "James Bond" Thursday, Addie! 😊 This one I kinda remember. Definitely looking forward to revisiting the second Pierce Brosnan 'James Bond' film. Have a great day today! 😊

Hi Addie! Just curious if you’ve seen Knight and Day (2010) starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz Kind of a playful take on the spy genre. Might be a good choice if you’re going through withdrawals after you finish the Bond films 😊

Michelle Yeoh is so hot in this movie

Tim Heron

Did you catch Gerard Butler as a crewman on the Devonshire? It wasn't his debut, but this was one of his earliest film roles.

Pierce is Bond to me, i dont know if anyone else saw this but in a recent interview he expressed interest in reprising the role and exploring an older Bond story, which would be very interesting.

Just to say this was my first Bond movie I ever saw and I'm glad you enjoyed it and James Bond well return in The World Is Not Enough

Will always be one of my fave Bond movies! Everything was on point and the motorcycle sequence was awesome! Michelle Yeoh is fantastic!!!

I dig this movie. This one had Ricky Jay in it, who we just saw in Boogie Nights. Love Michelle Yeoh in this! She was a big crush of mine when this came out, so I loved seeing her on the big screen. Watch her in Supercop, please! Next up is The World Is Not Enough, with my big childhood crush Sophie Marceau. Lawdy!!

...at 12:54, this is not your typical Sheryl Crow song.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think this movie was my first ever exposure to Michelle Yeoh. I'll alway be grateful to it for that. I would LOVE to see you explore more of her catalogue. Much like "Goldeneye", you can really seee the fallout from the collapse of the Soviet Union in the story here. Russian nuclear weapons being sold at the market at the beginning reflected the fears of what would happen to the Soviet nuclear arsenal after the collapse. China is introduced as the Big Enemy that would be a player in WWIII. And the villain is a media mogul because the internet and satellite TV gives him as much power and influence as a head of state. You never would have gotten these aspects before the end of the Cold War and the rise of computer power.
